2026 UPRO TAMWORTH PREMIER INDOOR SERIES
The Tamworth Barbarians are proud to announce our official squad.
Every player has been selected for a reason. The squad brings together Australian Open and Masters representation, World Cup success, national championship leadership, state-level experience, BBI and Superleague performers, local knowledge and more than 280 years of combined indoor cricket experience.
Angelo Mathews
A Gold Coast Cyclones player with 35 years of indoor cricket experience, Angelo has represented South Australia at Over-55 Masters level. Primarily a bowler who can also contribute with the bat, he brings experience, control and a strong understanding of the game. His team-first approach and willingness to take responsibility will provide the Barbarians with another dependable option.
Garry Lake
An experienced all-rounder from Hills Indoor Sports by UPRO, Garry represented NSW Over-50 Men in 2024 and currently competes for Hills Heat across Masters and Men’s BBI competitions. With 30 years in the game, he brings energy, experience and personality to the squad. Garry’s enthusiasm for promoting indoor cricket through his Tiger Kings platform will also help showcase the tournament and the Barbarians' journey to a wider audience.
Jason Hay
A Caboolture Snakes player who has progressed through in-house and Superleague competition, Jason has already demonstrated his ability to perform during important matches by earning Zones Player of the Final recognition. Primarily a batter who can also contribute with the ball, he brings energy, communication and a willingness to stay involved in the game. His selection adds further enthusiasm and flexibility to the Barbarians squad.
Chris Dalton
An experienced Gold Coast Cyclones all-rounder with more than 25 years in the game, Chris has represented South Australia and Queensland at Masters level. At the 2026 Australian Indoor Cricket Championships, he recorded 88 runs and nine wickets across six matches for Queensland Over-50 Men. Chris brings a competitive yet fair approach, proven experience as a representative, and the ability to contribute consistently across both disciplines.
Tim Baker
A highly experienced Tamworth all-rounder and wicketkeeping option with 36 years of indoor cricket behind him. Tim has competed at Country Superleague and BBI level and brings valuable local knowledge to the squad. His versatility and willingness to take on whatever role the team requires give the Barbarians important flexibility. As a local player, he also understands the venue, the conditions and the opportunity this tournament creates for Tamworth indoor cricket.
Paul Cross
A Wynnum Seagulls all-rounder with 40 years of indoor cricket experience and an outstanding Masters record. Paul has competed at 18 Masters National Championships—17 for Queensland and one for NSW—winning nine national titles with Queensland. He represented Australia at the 2024 Masters World Cup and produced 94 runs and 18 wickets for Queensland Over-55 Men at the 2026 Australian Indoor Cricket Championships. His experience, composure and knowledge of tournament cricket will be major assets for the Barbarians.
Brendon Boyd
One of the most experienced players in the tournament, Brendon has represented Queensland at Colts, Open, and Masters levels, and Australia at both Open and Masters levels. His career includes an Australian Open tour of England, extensive representation at the Masters, national captaincy, and 41 international matches.
Brendon captained Australia at Over-50 and Over-55 level and was named the Over-50 Men’s MVP at the 2024 Masters World Series. He continued that form at the 2026 Australian Indoor Cricket Championships, producing 127 runs and 18 wickets for Queensland Over-50 Men.
His outdoor career with Valley District Cricket Club also includes 183 matches, more than 5,400 runs and 265 wickets. Brendon brings leadership, experience and a proven ability to perform at the highest level.
Andrew Firth
An accomplished wicketkeeper and all-rounder with 40 years of indoor cricket experience. Andrew was part of the NSW Open Men’s national title-winning team in 2003 and has represented both NSW and Queensland at Masters level over 11 years, winning four national titles.
He has competed at three Masters World Cups—in 2008, 2010 and 2024—winning all three and recording 20 appearances for Australia. Andrew has also been selected to represent Australia Over-50 Men in the 2026 Trans-Tasman Series. His experience, wicketkeeping ability and willingness to pass his knowledge on to others will be invaluable to the Barbarians.
Taine Riley
A Strathpine Burras all-rounder with 13 years of indoor cricket experience. Taine represented NSW Country Under-22s at the 2019 National Championships and brings a valuable combination of representative experience and a genuine hunger to continue improving. His commitment, enthusiasm and love of the game reflect what the Barbarians pathway is designed to encourage. Taine’s willingness to learn and give everything for the team will make him an important part of the squad.
Timothy Taylor
An experienced Caboolture all-rounder who has represented both Queensland and NSW at Over-35 Masters level during the past four years. Timothy produced 116 runs and six wickets across nine matches for NSW Over-35 Men at the 2026 Australian Indoor Cricket Championships.
With 24 years of indoor cricket experience, he brings a highly competitive approach, consistent effort and a strong understanding of representative-level competition. Timothy’s willingness to support his teammates both on and off the court will add further experience and character to the Barbarians.
TEAM OFFICIALS
Team Coach — To Be Confirmed
The Barbarians team coach will be announced separately. The coach will lead the squad’s preparation and playing direction, establish clear expectations and ensure each player understands how their individual role contributes to the overall team structure.
Team Manager — To Be Confirmed
The Barbarians team manager will be announced separately. The role will support the players and coaching staff while maintaining strong communication, preparation and organisation throughout the tournament.
Rob Chappel — Operations Manager
Rob established the Tamworth Barbarians pathway to give indoor cricket players from different clubs, centres and representative backgrounds an opportunity to come together through an open application and selection process.
He will oversee tournament coordination, sponsorship, player administration, uniforms, team branding and promotion. His focus will be on providing the players and officials with a professional team structure while creating greater exposure, stronger pathways and further opportunities within indoor cricket.
This is a squad created through opportunity.
It brings together Australian internationals, World Cup winners, national-title captains, state representatives, experienced BBI and Superleague players and competitors still building their own cricket story.
The Barbarians pathway has already created an opportunity for one applicant to join the Tamworth Down Unders Yellow Squad. It now delivers a Barbarians team with its own identity, opportunity, and chapter.
Every player brings something different. Every player is valued. Every player will have an important role to play.
