I’VE BEEN A LITTLE QUIET ON HERE…
Mainly because I’ve spent the last week snow skiing.
Which, given my eyesight, is obviously a very sensible recreational choice. 🤣⛷️
Lucky I have some amazing people in my life who I can follow down the mountain.
But it did get me thinking about how I choose to live …
I’m getting older.
I just have absolutely no intention of getting old.
There’s a difference.
Getting older is the birthdays, the wrinkles, the occasional creak when you stand up and probably needing longer to recover from things you once did without thinking. 😂
Getting old, though?
I think some of that happens in our thinking.
When we start telling ourselves:
I’m too old for that.
I couldn’t do that anymore.
That part of my life has passed.
Maybe I should start slowing down.
Why??
One of the things I’m learning in this chapter of my life is that our circumstances might change — our bodies change, our abilities change and sometimes life throws us things we absolutely didn’t order.
But that doesn’t mean we stop living.
If anything, it has made me want to squeeze more out of it.
Try things.
Go places.
Learn things.
Move your body.
Stay curious.
Laugh at yourself.
Do things that scare you a little.
And occasionally strap two planks to your feet and hurtle down a mountain when you can barely see where you’re going. 🤣
I’m not interested in pretending I’m 25.
God no. I was far more confused then. 😂
I want to be this age — with everything I’ve learnt, everything I’ve survived and hopefully a little more wisdom — while still being ridiculously excited about what might come next.
Because maybe ageing well isn’t about desperately trying to stay young.
Maybe it’s about refusing to stop being alive.
So I’m collecting birthdays.
I’m collecting wrinkles.
But I’m also collecting adventures, stories, belly laughs, ridiculous decisions and hopefully a few more chapters I haven’t even imagined yet.
Getting older is inevitable.
Getting old?
I’m not putting that on my vision board. 🤣
