What a beautiful comparison.

A crown is associated with majesty, sovereignty and splendour. And here, even Lalitha Ma’s knees possess a beauty worthy of being compared to precious ruby crowns.

Nāma by Nāma, the Sahasranamam allows us to slowly hold Her entire Divine form within our mind, transforming our chanting into dhyAnam.

Just as roots quietly support a creeper without drawing attention to themselves, Lalitha Ma quietly supports the entire universe.

Why does this Nāma compare Lalitha Ma’s Divine form to a graceful creeper?

The imagery is both delicate and deeply beautiful.

• nAbhi – Navel
• AlavAla – Rising from / extending upwards
• romAli latA – A creeper-like fine line of hair
• phala – Fruit
• kucha dvayE – Divine bosom

The fine line rising from Lalitha Ma’s navel is poetically compared to a graceful creeper, with Her Divine bosom described as its beautiful fruits.

But beyond this poetic description of Her Divine form, there is a beautiful spiritual echo in the teachings of Thirumoolar.

He also describes the extraordinary nature of Her relationship with Shiva:

“தாயும் மகளும் நல் தாரமுமாமே.”

She is His Mother, His Daughter and His Divine Consort.

The Divine Mother cannot ultimately be confined to any single relationship or identity.

She is Manonmani, beyond the mind itself, and She is not only the Mother of Shiva, but the Universal Mother of every one of us, nourishing, protecting and sustaining all of creation.

What did Lalitha Ma give in return for the precious jewel of Kameshwara’s love?

This Nāma gives us a beautiful image of Divine Love that is never measured or calculated, but only multiplies when it is given.

She whose Divine bosom represents the abundant love She gives in return for the precious jewel of Kameshwara’s love.

kAmeshwara refers to Kameshwara, prema to love, ratna mani to a precious jewel, prati pana to what is given in exchange, and stanE to Her Divine bosom.

A woman’s bosom symbolises nourishment, compassion and unconditional motherly love.

There is a beautiful insight from Sri Radhakrishna Sastrigal in your notes.

When we truly desire something precious, we are often willing to give even more than its value to receive it.

Kameshwara offers Lalitha Ma the priceless jewel of His love, and what does She give in return?

Love in an even greater measure.

When love is offered freely, love only expands.
