Players often think we’re only watching the goals and the intercepts. We’re not. Some of the things that tell us the most about a player never show up on the scoreboard.
01. Who helps pack up.
The bibs, the cones, the balls. The players who stay back to help - without being asked - are the ones building the habits that make a team easy to be part of.
02. Who listens when others are talking.
Eye contact during the team talk. Nodding when a teammate has an idea. Listening is a skill, and the players who do it well are usually the ones who learn the fastest.
03. Who works hard on the tough days.
Anyone can train hard when they’re feeling great. We notice the player who shows up flat, tired or frustrated and still gives what they’ve got. That’s where real growth happens.
04. Who encourages their teammates.
The clap after a missed shot. The “next one!” when someone’s heads dropped. These players lift the whole group, and a good culture is built on them.
05. Who gets to the line.
Getting to each transverse line in fitness, completing every rep, never cutting corners. Effort when no one’s checking tells us everything.
06. Who keeps showing up.
Not the flashiest. Not always the loudest. Just there, week after week, putting in the work. Consistency is its own kind of talent.
Tag a player who shows up the right way, or a coach who notices the little things.
