Community Rallies to Launch Bli Bli Parkrun.

Bli Bli is set to take another step forward in community fitness and connection, with locals joining forces to launch a brand-new Parkrun β€” a free, weekly, timed 5km run or walk open to everyone.

What many people don’t realise is that starting a new Parkrun event requires $8,600 in funding to cover essential equipment, safety gear, signage, and setup costs. To help make it happen, the community has come together to host a Fundraiser Bootcamp and After Party at Parklakes.

The event, organised by Mark Cowie from Jetts Gym Bli Bli, will kick off with a high-energy bootcamp session, followed by food, drinks, and fun at the local Parklakes. All proceeds go toward helping Bli Bli secure its own Parkrun.

Local residents are the driving force behind the project, Michael Lassman, said β€œthe support so far has been inspiring. Parkrun is all about bringing people together β€” runners, walkers, families, and volunteers. It’s amazing to see our community stepping up to help make this dream a reality for Bli Bli”

Corey Wright, owner of The Local said β€œthe new Parkrun would be a fantastic addition to the area. Bli Bli is growing fast, and having something like Parkrun will help strengthen our sense of community. It gives people a reason to get out and at the same time be active as well as connect β€” and that’s exactly what our town needs”

Local real estate agent Cameron Hackenberg, a supporter of the initiative, agreed and said β€œThis is about more than fitness β€” it’s about pride in our community. Parkrun will put Bli Bli on the map as a healthy, active, and welcoming place to live”

The Bli Bli Parkrun Fundraiser Bootcamp will be held at the Bli Bli Soccer Oval on Saturday, 6 December from 2pm–4pm, with the after party following at The Local at Parklakes from 4pm.

Everyone is invited β€” you don’t need to attend the bootcamp to join the celebrations.

Tickets for the bootcamp are by donation via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/1806979507349?aff=oddtdtcreator
https://www.facebook.com/events/2408676432900457
With the community’s help, Bli Bli could soon be welcoming its very own parkrun to the weekly calendar.

How about this legend?

Massive congratulations to Helen Greenfield

You're an absolute star 🌟 πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

A huge congratulations to one of our incredible Atlas Ambassadors, Helen Greenfield, for earning the prestigious Atlas Majors Medal by completing the marathon at all four of our major events: Brisbane Marathon Festival, EVA Air Sunshine Coast Marathon Festival, Hobart Marathon Festival and Cairns Marathon Festival.

β€œIt feels pretty special to achieve the Atlas Majors Medal. I’ve loved being involved in the Atlas events for many years in the half marathon, but this year I thought I’d commit to the slightly scary goal of ticking off all four big ones. I’m stoked to have seven medals for the Fab Four events, thanks to a couple of age category wins along the way.

I completed all four marathons this year thanks to some amazing support. Firstly, I would love to thank Atlas Events for having me involved as an ambassador. I’ve met some incredible and inspiring people within the team and we love to share our journey to encourage and motivate others.

I must also thank my running girl gang ~ The Fit Mummies, for joining me on so many of those training kilometres while keeping it fun. Also a big thanks goes to my fabulous family who always support me with my big goals.

My favourite event would have to be Hobart this year. It was our first visit to Tasmania and my husband and I both ran to celebrate our wedding anniversary, which happened to fall on race day.

Sunshine Coast holds a special place in my heart too. I’ve ran and paced the half marathon for many years and love the local course. I can’t wait to see how it grows and evolves in future.”—Helen Greenfield, Atlas Majors Medal Recipient.

Hey all πŸ™

Jody Fischer was meant to be pacing someone at Ultraman this coming weekend, however he somehow thought the run was Sunday but it's actually Monday and he has to work so can no longer do it 😬

He has a good crew and another good pacer(finished top 10 a few years back) and they just need someone else to alternate the duties for the double Marathon(84km).

He's aiming for about 6min/km pace but anything could happen after a big 2 days prior swimming and biking..

Reach out if you're free πŸ™

A sneaky trip south by this mushroom loving pair to attack the Australian Alpine Ascent 59k trail race.

Hit with a chilly -2Β°C start, the lads tackled some epic climbs, including touching the tip..... of Mt. Kosciuszko.

Unfortunately Nath's old man knees gave out after 30ks, but we think he was just keen on a bowl of hot soup by the fire. Great effort bud.

A crisp of high 5 to Jamie Mcarthur for grinding out a very respectable sub 9hr finish.

From early reports this event has already been penciled in to the 2025 Sunco Tour Calendar.
