Students from Shishikan just finished our Koshinkai National Karate Training Camp and what an amazing weekend it was.

Dojo Instructor Shihan Tony Fletcher, Sensei's Peter Warren, Lee "Chooky" Baker, Sharron Wakefield, Raymond Ho, Dean Thomas, Chrome Warren along with Ethan Guo, all travelled to Coolum on the Sunshine Coast for another National Karate Training Camp.

An awesome weekend reviewing Kata, developing Bunkai, revising and learning new Kobudo, having fun with Yakusoku Kumite and sharing the training in break out groups to keep it interesting and lively.

I want to specifically highlight and congratulate Renshi Dean McKernan for his promotion to Rokudan 6th Degree Black Belt, to Sensei Eric Tabor for his promotion to Sandan 3rd Degree Black Belt and to Sensei Mark Slingo for a great demonstration in preparation for this Godan 5th Degree Black Belt in Nov this year in Coonabarabran.

Well done to everyone.

I include in the photos the beautiful location and view at our camp location including some prospective students we came across in the early morning.

Another year of awesome training, personal goals and achievements realised and International, National and Local Tournament competitions entered into with an amazing group of people.

The Shishikan dojo members have seen a lot in 2025 and tonight we had our Christmas gathering to share our year together and to just relax and enjoy ourselves.

We had some people away tonight due to illness but they were with us in spirit. A special welcome to Sensei Mark who recently re-opened his Kensuikan dojo, thanks for coming along Mark.

It was awesome to see Sensei Mel turn up along with her son Corbin, who was one of our students before he moved away. He left as a young person and visited tonight a grown man, wow have you grown Corbin, great to see you.

Of special note was the celebration of Ethan’s 15th birthday today and along with his mum, cut the cake to share. Happy birthday Ethan.

I couldn’t be happier having such a wonderful group of people as students and I look forward to more exciting times in 2026.

To everyone, have a safe amazing end of year celebration. Take care.

Regards to you all
Tony

Sadly, the Founder of Shorinjiryu Kenkokan in Australia has passed away

Mark Vanneikerk has advised that Shihan Laurie Vanneikerk has passed this morning at 6.40am.
Shihan Laurie founded Shorinjiryu Kenkokan in Australia in 1977 and was a wonderful teacher and a great and humble man.
Our sincere condolences to Dale and his Family.
We caught up with Shihan Laurie at the recent World Koshiki Championships in Brisbane.
Shihan Laurie has requested a non-attendance cremation.
Shorinjiryu Australia will commemorate his life at our upcoming Coonabarabran training camp.

Whilst I had to withdraw from the tournament due to illness, the Shishikan Dojo is well supported by Sensei’s Lee “Chooky” Baker, Dean Thomas and Raymond Ho

Wish you all the best gentlemen and to the other Koshinkai competitors from Seiryukan and Kensuikan Dojos
