Children's social and emotional development is a crucial, lifelong process starting at birth, involving the ability to identify, manage emotions, and build positive relationships.
Key skills include self-awareness, empathy, cooperation, and resilience, which are developed through secure attachments with caregivers and consistent interactions in early childhood.Â
Between ages 3 and 5, children experience rapid social and emotional growth, becoming more independent, imaginative, and social.
They develop friendships, learn to share and cooperate, and manage emotions better, though they still need support with big feelings.
Between 5 and 7 years old, children experience significant social and emotional growth, transitioning from egocentric thinking to understanding perspectives, developing empathy, and navigating complex friendships.
They become more independent, capable of regulating emotions, and sensitive to peer opinions while developing a stronger sense of morality and self-identity.
