A standout Sunday as we welcomed the Bondi Icebergs Club back to Coalcliff. Always a great day on the calendar, and once again it delivered.

Weather was looking a little dismal to start, with a light breeze and spots of rain, but it cleared as the morning went on. Nothing was getting in the way of a great day. Water temp sat at 17.5 degrees.

A strong turnout of 60 swimmers saw 15 heats run smoothly, leading into 3 finals. Plenty of close racing throughout, with wins to Casso SEA EELS, Patricia Icebergs and Renata Icebergs.

The all important ten person relay delivered as always, with two heats of three teams. Two from SEA EELS, four from the Icebergs, and plenty of noise from the sidelines. A great result for the SEA EELS women, taking out the BED PAN Trophy for only the second time since its introduction in 2018.

Back at the Surf Club, the day rolled on with plenty of food, drinks and stories. A generous contribution from the Icebergs through fines, raffles and a donation to The Cram Foundation added to the strong community spirit of the day.

Another top Sunday of racing, friendly rivalry and good company.

BIG thank you to all SEA EELS who put on a generous spread and keeping things moving behind the scenes.

Swim Seven || The Bondi Icebergs are diving in with us on Sunday!

Arrive by 9:30am, with the Icebergs expected at 9:45am. The forecast is looking a little fresh and possible rain.

Calling all female SEA EELS: we need a team of 10 for the relay. Who’ll be taking home the Bed Pan Trophy?

Once the swimming is done, stick around for soup, raffles, lunch, drinks and plenty of laughs at the Surf Club.

A huge thank you to the SEA EELS for taking care of the catering!

Another great Sunday down at Coalcliff, and for the first time we welcomed the Floating Flamingos to join us. A stunning day, with the water sitting at a slightly fresher 17°.

A strong turnout of 42 swimmers lined up for the 50m events, with plenty of close racing across the heats. Two finals were run, both taken out by SEA EELS, with wins to Alan and Ben.

The 10 person relay brought the noise as always, with plenty of support from the sidelines. SEA EELS came away with the win, capping off a solid morning in the water.

Back at the Surf Club, the soups did not disappoint. Thanks to everyone who contributed.

Zalie took home the raffle prize, while Flamingo Julie had a crack at the Joker Poker but could not find the Ace ♣️, so the jackpot rolls on.

[SWIM FOUR] Another big Sunday with our biannual visit from the Bulli SeaLions. Sun was shining and the water temp a very enjoyable 21°.

10 heats were run for 39 Winter Swimmers, followed by 2 finals. Plenty of tight racing and a few surprises along the way.

FINAL ONE: Rodney, Richard B, Dawno, Rick and Bulli Richard C. Close race with breaks for 1st and 2nd, handing the win to 3rd place Richard B.
FINAL TWO: Barney, Michele, Ryan, Russell and Bulli Luke. Super tight finish with everyone touching the wall within 1.5 seconds. Congrats Barney on the win.

The major event, as always, was the 10 person RELAY for the JIMMY JOHNS Trophy. Four teams lined up, two from each club, with plenty of noise from the sidelines. SEA EELS Team A took the win by just 3 seconds over Bulli Team A. The usual debate around rules and “technicalities” followed. The trophy is finally ours… although actually getting it out of Denise’s grip proved another challenge. Not for lack of trying Rodney.

FOX 🦊 went to Harrison with a solid 18 second improvement.

Back at the Surf Club, hearty soups were on offer from Rach (Spicy Chorizo), Justin (Mini Meatball with Noodles) and Ryan (Creamy Chicken Noodles). The good food continued with lunch provided by our members, a few drinks and plenty of stories.

Gold coin donations were flowing, thanks to the fine masters keeping everyone honest.

The raffle was drawn and won by Bulli’s Flynn.

A great day all round. Looking forward to heading south again next year.
