Hi Everyone,
It is with a heavy heart, but also with joy and hope, that I announce I am moving back to my home region of Berrigan, in southern NSW on the Murray River.
1. The heavy heart part
I have to make this necessary move to become a part-time carer for two members of my family. It takes me away from one of the things I love doing most — teaching Martial Arts to both children and adults. I have spent the last 10 years here in Emerald with Dragons Lair, building fantastic relationships, both casual and deep, with countless people, adults and juniors alike. These are the things I will miss the most. I will be heading south during the school holidays between Term 3 and Term 4.
This raises a big question: what happens to the Dojo and all the classes?
2. The joy and hope part
Dai Sempai Arnika Wyper has stepped forward and will be running Dragons Lair Martial Arts – Emerald (DLMA-E) from the beginning of Term 4 onwards. Arnika has trained with me for close to 8 years and knows all the students very well, having filled in for me during absences I couldn't avoid. For the last three-odd years, she has been my 2nd in charge and 1st ranking assistant at DLMA-E.
As of this announcement, Arnika will be sitting her Black Belt grading in a week's time, and will take over the running of DLMA-E as a qualified Black Belt, with all the rights and privileges that come with that honour. Please show her the same support you've shown me — I know Arnika will absolutely succeed in this venture.
I will continue my own Martial Arts journey once I've moved south, and will remain Head of School for the Dragons Lair Martial Arts Group. I'll be Arnika's mentor and direct instructor, and will also return to Emerald from time to time to help with gradings and other events.
Yours in Martial Spirit,
Sensei Pete
