Belleville Lands 90cm Cod in Angling Club Competition

The St Arnaud Angling Club’s Competition 9 was held over the King’s Birthday long weekend as an Unlimited Radius event, attracting seven men, six ladies and six junior anglers.

Competitors spread out across a number of popular fishing destinations including Robinvale, Tchum Lake and Barham, enjoying excellent weather conditions throughout the weekend.

Ged Belleville produced the standout catch of the competition, landing an impressive 90cm Murray cod to claim the Biggest Fish award. Ged also secured victory in the carp competition after catching a 57.5cm carp, making it a memorable weekend on the water.

Riley Burke recorded the Men’s Biggest Bag after catching four yellowbelly with a total combined length of 1.885 metres. His largest fish measured an impressive 53.5cm.

Leanne Burke took out the Ladies Biggest Bag with an outstanding haul that included a 76cm Murray cod and five yellowbelly. Her biggest yellowbelly measured 52cm, while her total catch length reached an impressive 2.775 metres.

Phil Gigg enjoyed success with two Murray cod measuring a combined length of 1.665 metres, with his largest fish stretching 75.5cm. His efforts were rewarded with the Secret Length prize.

The successful long weekend competition once again showcased the quality fishing available throughout the region and provided anglers with plenty of memorable catches.

The St Arnaud Angling Club held Competition 8 at Laanecorrie on the 16th-17th May, with four men and two ladies taking part in the event.

Despite the smaller field, anglers still enjoyed a successful competition with several quality yellowbelly landed across the weekend.

Riley Burke caught two yellowbelly, with his biggest measuring 42cm, with a total length of 83cm. Riley’s efforts earned him the Men’s Biggest Bag award for the competition.

Leanne Burke also caught two yellowbelly, with her biggest fish measuring an impressive 45cm, with a total length of 86cm. Leanne was awarded Biggest Fish for the event.

The club would also like to thank everyone who supported the recent wood raffle fundraiser. A fantastic total was raised through the raffle, with congratulations going to winner Leon Lynch.

St Arnaud Anglers Shine at Mid Northern Competition

The Mid Northern Angling Competition was held over the weekend of March 21–22, 2026, at Tchum Lake, marking the sixth competition of the season. A strong field of fifty anglers travelled from St Arnaud, Donald, Boort, Charlton, Lake Boga and Quambatook to take part in the two-day event.

Competition was fierce across both days, with excellent catches recorded throughout the weekend. On Saturday, Joyce Wild secured honours for the biggest bag, while Ned Ezard was successful in claiming the juniors biggest bag award. St Arnaud Angling Club enjoyed outstanding team success, finishing as overall winners and taking home the prestigious Mid Northern Shield.

Mid Northern Shield Results:

1st – St Arnaud: 5,180

2nd – Boort: 2,800

3rd – Charlton: 2,330

4th – Donald: 1,160

Sunday’s results saw Barney Ezard take out the biggest bag, while Ned Ezard once again proved consistent by winning the juniors biggest bag.

Alongside the Mid Northern event, St Arnaud Angling Club also conducted their own club competition at Tchum Lake. Eleven members took part, including four men, two ladies and five juniors.

Luke Ezard landed three catfish, with his biggest measuring 47cm, and also caught a 57cm yellowbelly. His yellowbelly proved to be the standout capture of the competition, earning him the biggest fish award.

Ivan Wild had an impressive session, catching four catfish with his largest measuring 50cm. He also added a 44cm silver perch to his tally, which helped him secure the biggest bag award.

Joyce Wild continued her strong form by catching five catfish, the largest measuring 51.5cm, to win the ladies biggest bag.

Ned Ezard caught a 51cm catfish along with a 31cm redfin, which saw him claim the juniors biggest bag.

Barney Ezard rounded out the winners by taking out the secret length prize with a 48cm catfish.

It was a fantastic weekend of fishing with great camaraderie, plenty of quality catches and many wonderful prizes won. St Arnaud Angling Club extended their thanks to the Donald Angling Club for hosting a well-run and enjoyable competition.

Happy Valley Hosts Labour Day Fishing Competition

Competition five for the season was held at Happy Valley over the Labour Day long weekend, with strong participation from members enjoying good conditions and some impressive catches.

A total of 13 anglers competed in the event, including nine men and four ladies.

Chris Medlyn had an outstanding day on the water, landing eight yellowbelly. His biggest fish measured an impressive 48.50cm, which earned him the award for biggest fish of the competition.

Riley Burke also had a successful outing, catching three yellowbelly with his largest measuring 40cm. Riley took out the award for the men’s biggest bag.

Leanne Burke landed three yellowbelly during the competition, with her biggest measuring 33cm. Her efforts were enough to secure the ladies biggest bag award.

Sam Medlyn caught a 36cm yellowbelly and claimed the secret length prize.

Ivan Wild also weighed in a solid yellowbelly measuring 40.53cm.

A carp competition was held alongside the main event, with a total of six carp caught throughout the weekend by Riley Burke, Leanne Burke, Ivan Wild, Chris Medlyn, Sam Medlyn and Barney Ezard. Riley Burke won the carp competition with a large carp measuring 78cm.

Attention now turns to the next event on the calendar, with Competition 6 set to be the Mid Northern Competition at Tchum Lake.

The St Arnaud Angling Club hosted its fourth competition of the season at Bridgewater over the weekend of February 14–15, 2026, with strong participation and impressive catches recorded across all sections.

A total of 24 anglers took part, including eleven men, seven ladies and six juniors, enjoying fabulous conditions throughout the weekend.

Ivan Wild opened the account with a solid 43.4cm yellowbelly. David Chapman followed with two yellowbelly measuring a combined 82.4cm, his largest fish coming in at 41.8cm. Joyce Wild landed a notable 59cm cod, while Helen Rigby stole the spotlight with an impressive 72cm cod, earning her the award for biggest fish of the competition.

Riley Burke claimed men’s biggest bag after landing two yellowbelly with a combined length of 87.5cm, highlighted by his largest fish of 46cm. Leanne Burke dominated the ladies’ section, catching three yellowbelly totalling 113cm, with her biggest measuring 41cm to secure ladies biggest bag honours. Brent Fenwick rounded out the major awards, winning the secret length prize with two yellowbelly totalling 83cm, his biggest fish measuring 42cm.

Across the weekend, anglers landed a total of 10 yellowbelly and two cod, marking a successful and competitive outing for the club.

The St Arnaud Angling Club’s next event, Competition Five, will be held over the March long weekend at Happy Valley, with members looking forward to another strong turnout.

Competition 3 was held at Laanecoorie on the 29th-30th November 2025. It was a great weekend of fishing with 13 competitors catching 33 yellowbelly with of a total length of 14 metres.

Riley Burke caught 10 yellowbelly with his biggest being 46.7cm.

Aidan Burke caught 6 yellowbelly with his biggest being 46cm.

Luke Ezard caught a 44.5cm yellowbelly.

Sandy Ezard caught 2 yellowbelly with her biggest being 39.5cm.

Leanne Burke caught 9 yellowbelly with her biggest being 49cm.

Connor caught 4 yellowbelly with his biggest being 39cm.

Ned Ezard caught a 40cm yellowbelly.

St Arnaud Angling Club 2024/2025 Presentation Day

On Saturday the 11th October 2025 the St Arnaud Angling Club held their 2024/2025 Presentation Day.

The day started with the AGM and all positions were declared open. The club elected Barney Ezard as President, Riley Burke as Vice President, Treasurer Rosanne Chapman, Secretary Peter Rigby, Press Correspondents Belinda Burke, Refreshments Leo Burge & Jody Reyne. Members then enjoyed a spit roast lunch followed by official presentations.

Season Rundown:

Competition 1: Cohuna, 7 men, 8 ladies, 5 cod. Biggest Fish cod 64cm Jody Reyne. Biggest Bag Leanne Burke 2 cod with a total length of 113cm.

Competition 2: Teddington, 5 men, 4 ladies, 1 red fin 40cm Riley Burke.

Competition 3: Lake Fyans, 6 men, 4 ladies, 2 juniors, no fish.

Competition 4: Bridgewater, 7 men, 3 ladies, 1 junior, 25 yellowbelly, 2 cod. Biggest Fish cod 69cm Riley Burke. Men's Biggest Bag 3 yellowbelly total length 131cm David Chapman. Competition 6: Lake Meran, 3 men, 1 junior, no fish.

Competition 7: Unlimited, 6 men, 6 ladies, 3 juniors, 20 yellowbelly, 3 redfin. Biggest Fish 53cm yellowbelly Riley Burke. Men's Biggest Bag 2 redfin with a total length of 77cm Luke Ezard. Ladies Biggest Bag 10 yellowbelly with a total length of 3.705m Leanne Burke. Juniors Biggest Bag 36cm redfin Ned Ezard.

Competition 8: Baraham, 4 men, 1 ladies, 3 juniors, no fish.

Competition 9: Unlimited, 5 men, 1 lady, 2 juniors, 2 cod, 2 yellowbelly, 2 redfin. Biggest Fish 58.5cm cod Cameron Rigby. Men’s Biggest Bag 2 yellowbelly with a total length of 1.498m Riley Burke. Secret Length Peter Rigby.

Competition 10: Dimboola , 10 men, 6 ladies, 3 juniors, 4 yellowbelly, 2 catfish. Biggest Fish 44.5cm catfish Delphi Griffith. Men's Biggest Bag 45cm yellowbelly Riley Burke. Ladies Biggest Bag 41 cm yellowbelly Rosanne Chapman. Secret Length Leanne Burke.

Competition 11: Unlimited, 12 men, 2 ladies, 2 juniors, 28 yellowbelly, 8 cod. Biggest Fish 96cm cod Leanne Burke. Men's Biggest Bag 8 yellowbelly and 1 cod with a total length of 3.890m Perrin Scilini. Juniors Biggest Bag 56cm yellowbelly Ned Ezard. Secret Length Brent Fenwick.

A total of 11 competitions, 86 yellowbelly, 18 cod, 6 redfin & 1 catfish, with a total of 111 fish caught.

Overall Season Winners:

Rod Robinson Memorial Shield for the Biggest Fish of the Year went to Leanne Burke with her 96cm cod.

G. A. Lloyd Trophy Sailor Memorial Shield for the Men's Aggregate went to Riley Burke with a total length of 12.843m.

Ladies Aggregate Donated by Simon Burke went to Leanne Burke with a total length of 12.568m.

Basil Hooper Perpetual Trophy for the Juniors Biggest Fish went to Ned Ezard with his 56cm yellowbelly.

Neil Medlyn (Medo) Memorial Shield for the Junior Aggregate went to Ned Ezard with a total length of 1.325m

Charlie Chas Evans Memorial Shield for the Biggest Yellowbelly went to Riley Burke with his 57cm yellowbelly.

Clarrie & Lola Fletcher for the Biggest Redfin went to Riley Burke with his 40cm redfin.

Kevin Nevill Memorial Trophy for Biggest Fish in Local Waters went to Riley Burke with his 40cm redfin.

Congratulations to all who caught fish throughout the season.
