Development Series Heads Back to Kellerberrin!
The Late Model Development Series returns to the Wheatbelt this Saturday as Kellerberrin Speedway hosts the fourth round of the 2026 championship, with the series battle continuing to tighten and several drivers looking to build momentum heading into the second half of the ‘off’ season.
It will be the second visit to the popular Windy Hill venue this season, where fans witnessed a breakthrough performance in mid-June.
Kalgoorlie's Jack Barnewall produced a polished drive to claim his maiden Late Model victory, holding off development series regular campaigners Brett Niall and Ryan Huxtable to etch his name into the winner's list.
With confidence now on his side, Barnewall will be hoping the nearly home-track experience from that earlier victory can propel him to another strong result this weekend.
The championship battle, however, is shaping as one of the closest in recent memory.
After three rounds, Brett Niall leads the standings with 314 points, but his advantage is far from comfortable. Ewan Dickson sits just 12 points adrift in second place and has been one of the most consistent performers throughout the series, while returning driver Bryn Haythornthwaite has made an immediate impact to occupy third overall.
With valuable points on offer, not to mention the continued potential to develop their race craft, every heat race and feature position will be crucial as the leading contenders look to gain an edge before the series moves deeper into the season.
A quality field of fourteen competitors has nominated for Saturday’s event, ensuring plenty of close racing throughout the program.
Among those lining up are current series leading trio Niall, Dickson and Haythornthwaite, last start winner Matt Sangston, Kellerberrin winner Jack Barnewall and previous podium finisher Ryan Huxtable.
They'll be joined by plenty of other names including the long awaited return of Mick Comley aboard the Oldfield racing #6 and fellow returnee Peter Seaton, while other regular drivers who have certainly shown plenty of development including Tina Ingram and Adam Ambrose are also in the list, creating one of the strongest Development Series fields of the season.
The mix of experienced Late Model competitors and rising talent has been a hallmark of the Development Series, with each round providing emerging drivers the opportunity to gain valuable race experience while challenging established names.
With a maiden winner already produced at Kellerberrin this season, another tightly contested championship battle brewing and a quality field assembled, all the ingredients are in place for another exciting day of Late Model racing at Windy Hill!
