Back to Tambo over the past weekend for the Blackall / Tambo Megasports Clinic for country kids.

Wanderers were represented by 4 coaches at this event - Lance Roudenko, Matthew Williamson, Wesley Aspeling & Brad Murphy.

Whilst there we caught up with local cricket legends & longtime friends of the Wanderers Club Alex Turnbull & Buddy Donaldson seen here in a group shot. Every time we travel to Tambo these guys are always on hand to assist & have a few beers.

We had a great day last Sunday doing a clinic at Strollers Cricket Club in Redbank Plains where 39 super keen boys attended our Wanderers clinic.

The 4 Wanderers coaches - Lance Roudenko, Wesley Aspeling, Amitoj Sidhu & Brad Murphy really enjoyed the session and were very impressed by the standard of young Strollers cricketers.

Thanks to Jono Gibbs for organising the kids to come along.

Sad to hear of the recent passing of former Wanderers tourist Ray Tiley.

Ray was a magnificent contributor to cricket in general and certainly put in big shifts of work on tour !

He was involved with Alberton in the Beenleigh Cricket Association for as many decades as I can remember.

Best wishes to Andrew and family in this tough time.

RIP Ray from your friends in Wanderers Cricket Club.

Wanderers would like to put some teams in the upcoming Tavs charity golf day being held on Friday May 29th at Virginia Golf Club.

In previous years Wanderers have footed the bill in sending along a 4 man team to participate.

Given that Tavs are always on hand to financially support our cricket endeavours and that MANY who will read this have in some ways been beneficiaries of Tavs support by way of them sponsoring tourists etc we are asking that you consider nominating to play in this event representing Wanderers.

The cost is around $150 per person for a great day of golf at a nice course.

PLEASE indicate if you can commit to this event ASAP in order that we can lock in a few teams for the day.

Was great to catch up with past Wanderers tourist & former New Zealand Test rugby league footballer Mark Elia this week when Lance Roudenko & myself Brad Murphy ran our Upskill Cricket junior cricket clinic in Cootamundra, NSW.

Mark, who does a huge amount for local cricket in Coota hosted us for 4 days in order for us to coach 25 very keen local kids from Coota, Young & surrounding areas at Bradman Oval.

Mark Elia was an outside back representing New Zealand & Samoa in a dozen Tests as well as playing for Canterbury Bankstown, St Helens & coaching in France prior to moving to country NSW decades ago where he coached at all levels.

He was also a very good cricketer whom I originally met on an AOC tour of Asia many moons ago. Mark went on part of our last Wanderers northern tour along with his Coota mate Dave.

Without people like Mark & Dave cricket would be much the poorer. Tremendous people.

An added bonus was having Charlie Wakim come along for a day to coach the kids.

Whilst in Coota we checked out Bradman’s birthplace, the Captain’s Walk and some of the magnificent local sporting facilities including Fisher & Albert Parks.

We hope to visit in the future and form a good relationship with the added benefit of eventually having some more Coota guys come on our annual country tours.

WANDERERS. ANNUAL TOUR -

details just released - Far Western Qld in August.

Lock in departure date - Wednesday August 12th ( Ekka Wednesday holiday )

Returning on Friday 21st.

We have decided to slightly shorten the trip this year for a few reasons but given the distance covered and being the furthest west we have ever travelled we hope it is still an attractive trip on offer.

Only 5 fixtures on this trip which gets players back before the weekend available for their grade T20 fixtures.

Games will be played in Springsure, Longreach, Winton, Mt Isa & Barcaldine.

Complete itinerary will include options of visits to Hall of Fame & Qantas Museum in Longreach, Mt Isa Mines tour and whatever else we are able to squeeze in.

Accommodation charges out west plus the escalating fuel cost means we need to charge
$ 2,850 per person ( if you would prefer single room accom then this would incur an increase to be quoted ) and that will include all meals, drinks on the coach, shared room accom and tourist events as planned in itinerary.

Shortly we shall publish full plan but as of now we are asking for $500 deposits to lock in your spot as either a player on the trip or a supporter.

PLEASE spread this around all cricket folk in Qld as all are welcome to join us.
