There’s this mentality in the health and fitness industry that promotes replicating the movement of other animals. I know because I was one of these people buying into the MovNat, the Animal Flow kind of s**t that looks interesting but has minimal if any relevance when you consider that we are bipedal by nature.

There’s this avoidance of reality too - almost like people don’t want to accept that they are in fact humans. Anyway, some of the most mentally unstable people I have ever met participate in this kind of thing. I’m glad I had slap me in the face and steer me down the right path.

I think it’s safe to say that learning how to stand with more efficient mechanics has helped me address most of my mental and emotional dysfunctions. I’m still a work in progress, but strictly following protocols over the last 4 years has me feeling like a completely different human. My body is changing, my thoughts are changing, the way that I speak and navigate life is changing. I feel like I’m actually becoming a man - what a trip.

This is my relaxed standing neutral posture. Looks pretty good, but as soon as I move the dysfunctions and compensations are apparent. I don’t want to excessively mystify it, but I feel like a child and FP is a father that on one hand is pulling me up for my f**k ups while on the other hand is guiding me down a better path.

If you want to successfully navigate from A to B it makes sense to use a map, right? You can utilise a map that accurately depicts reality OR you can waste your time stabbing in the dark, guessing and hoping that you succeed.

Functional Patterns offers the best map in the fitness industry to help you get from A to B if your destination is eliminating pain and moving athletically for the long-term. The risks associated to taking the guesswork approach in addressing the body are evident - just take a look at those around you and you’ll see how unsuccessful the passive stretching, weightlifting and traditional rehab approaches are. Use your senses and watch the way that people move.

FP provides the best knowledge and pairs it with the best tools* in the industry. There’s no point in ‘knowing’ about the body when you are unable to apply that knowledge in a practical context. Most approaches either completely lack a genuine practical application to address dysfunctions or they have practical approaches that severely lack critical thinking. Hence the s**t-show we are experiencing with pain, discomfort and inadequate movers being the norm. How many people do you know that can’t sprint well? We literally evolved to sprint and it’s quickly disappearing from our movement repertoire.

If you want to eliminate pain, increase your athletic potential and move well into your old age, utilise the best map to help you get there.

That map is Functional Patterns 💪

Note: those of us lucky enough to live in Far North QLD don’t really experience Winter as most others do around the world. However, this information is still relevant and can inspire us to make better choices regardless of the weather conditions.

Are the ‘winter woes’ something that we simply just have to accept and deal with as a ‘normal’ part of life, or are they a result of questionable lifestyle choices? I assert that, while yes there are unavoidable circumstances in life, most of what we consider ‘normal’ can be avoided if we make the right choices. The human body is a master of allostasis (adaptive homeostasis) if we supply it with the right stimulus - Winter doesn’t have to be something to fear but can be embraced as an opportunity to sharpen that adaptive sword.

Like all other animals, we evolved to move in specific ways. As humans we have an incredible movement variability, but over millions of years our anatomy and physiology adapted to predominately stand, walk, run, and throw bipedally (on two feet). All other movements are secondary to these ‘First Four’ movements. Unfortunately it’s not as simple as getting out and walking, running and throwing more - your current dysfunctions will only be wired in further and most likely lead you to pain and injury. Functional Patterns is the only system that teaches you how to optimise the First Four while also respecting the laws of physics - train better mechanics into these movements and watch how your life changes for the better.

For those of you that have been asking what biomechanics is. The impact of poor biomechanics is rarely, if ever, spoken about by health professionals. is proving that addressing our biomechanics is the top priority when it comes it achieving optimal health - yes, even more so than avoiding toxins and eating organic.

We humans evolved to run, so why can’t most people run without pain or injury?

As a species we have suffered a great deal of trauma - wars and other extreme acts of violence, industrial toxins, non-native EMF’s, nuclear weapons and especially the divergence from our natural way of life as hunter-gatherers. Over thousands of years these collective and even our personal traumas have induced a severe decline in physical capacity in our species. While this physical incompetence is now culturally accepted, it is not biologically normal.

The rate of knee and hip replacements are on the rise. Increasingly I hear of people being told by doctors or physiotherapists that they have ‘no problem’ yet are suffering from pain or mobility issues. As these issues increase, so do coping strategies and ‘therapies’ that just don’t quite address the root cause of the issues.

While there are exceptions to everything in life, when it comes to these movement dysfunctions, generally the issues can be found in the physics of movement - biomechanics. When you understand physics and human evolution, you can look at people and start to see what is causing their issues. Most importantly, when you see the body as a single system rather than as a list of symptoms, you broaden your perspective and can begin to address the body as a whole.

Here’s a video of my current gait assessment. Nowhere near where I need it to be, but far better than it has ever been. With the ongoing education and application of Functional Patterns protocols, I’m learning the physics of movement and how to apply it to the human organism. I’m addressing my dysfunctions, getting rid of pain and discomfort, dropping my coping mechanisms and finding much more clarity in my life. All this by optimising my running mechanics, which advertently ripples out to increasing movement capacity in all other movements.

If you want to train in a way that optimised your anatomy and physiology, come and train with me.

Humans evolved to move in specific ways, just like every other animal on this planet. Standing, walking, running and throwing bipedally (on two legs) are the movements that seperate us from the rest of the Animal Kingdom. All other movements, such as crawling, climbing, swimming etc, are secondary to these fundamental ‘first four’ movements.

You don’t have to be a highly decorated scientist to see that there’s a vast difference in the health and movement capacity of modern humans in comparison to pre-industrial humans. Our modern lives require very different movement patterns compared to those of our ancestors and our bodies have mal adapted to the stimuli.

There’s plenty of ‘good intentions’ in the health and fitness industry attempting to rehabilitate and strengthen the human body. Unfortunately, intention only gets you so far without the knowledge on how to practically achieve the desired outcome. That’s where Functional Patterns steps in - by orienting your training around the ‘first four’ fundamental movements we can regenerate and strengthen the human body in ways that are relevant to everyday reality and sustainable in the long-term.

If you’re interested to know more, get in touch and book a consultation to see how I can help you regenerate and move better for the long-term.

Imagine trying to build a house with either no knowledge on how to do it correctly or the wrong tools to actually build it. It makes sense to have the knowledge as well as the right tools.

That’s why I strictly employ the Functional Patterns training method as well as use their tools to follow through and apply that knowledge. FP delivers the best knowledge and the best tools in the industry - consistently replicated results that are objective and easy to quantify are the proof of this.

Pictured is the Regen Trainer 2.0. If you’re ready to start training your human body the way that it evolved to do so, come and train with me at Far North Biomechanics.
