Golf Report 30th May 2026
A good field assembled for the inaugural Rob and Tempe Onus, Ken and Sue Cudmore’s trophy day last Saturday. Our thanks to them for sponsoring and supporting the local club. May there be many more trophy days.
The club welcomed ‘once a local’ Will Cowley from Wagga, Brendan Taylor and Jamie Street from the Hunter and Col and Meg Campbell from the ‘West’. The field swelled due to the influx of our lady golfers with the knowledge of knowing the host’s hospitality and good times is synonymous. Playing good golf was just a bonus!!
The course was presented in good condition with the fairways giving up the ‘pensioners’ run and the greens their deceptive best.
The father son combination of Mark and Todd Burgess combined fantastically well to win the day with 46pts. In receiving their trophy, Mark commented on how well he played and how well Todd scored!! Mike Stockdale and Ken Thornton with 44pts took home 2nd prize. Notable scores were posted by Ken and Sue Cudmore 45pts, Nigel Lawson and Will Cowley, Ken Cronin and Greg Tideman 42pts with Harry and Kathy Schroeder 41pts getting the last of the vouchers.
38pts was the winning individual score posted by Mark Burgess and Knox Fisher. Mark winning on a countback with a birdie on the last. Knox took home the trophy with all in the clubhouse congratulating him on having parred the course. Jane Gulliver was awarded the ladies' trophy.Vouchers went to Nigel Lawson, Sue Cudmore 37pts, Greg Henry, Ken Thornton, Tempe Onus, Jane Gulliver, Brendan Taylor and Todd Burgess 36pts. Good golf Knox. Well played to all.

As the sun was setting on another Saturdays golf, most will have memories of good and bad golf, but all will long remember the laughter created by the storytelling of the antics that took place on the course during the day.
Next week’s golf which falls on the June Long Weekend is the Brian Smith Plumbing June Monthly Medal.
A reminder to all that the Mount Druitt Masters is on the following weekend.
The course has responded well to the recent rain and is in good condition for all to enjoy. So, get the dust of the sticks, hit the road out to the course and try and master the game of golf!!

Thursday Golf Results

After three serious stroke rounds during championships, the ladies were very happy to return to a Stableford event this week 😊⛳️ With heavy skies overhead and a forecast of big rain, the WhatsApp chat was buzzing before play confirming that yes — we were all still heading to the course!

In the end, the 10 ladies who turned up enjoyed a fun and lively round, although after the overnight rain the scores were a little lower than we’ve seen in recent weeks 🌧️🏌️‍♀️

Winner winner on the day was Sue Cudmore with a fantastic 38 points 👏 closely followed by her playing partner Tempe Onus on 37 points. Phoebe Clift took out the ball competition with 34 points 🎉

There was only one NTP, claimed by Del Short on the 17th 🏆 but plenty of gobblers with Tempe on the 9th, Annie Brownhill on the 11th and Gwen on the 15th 😄

Vicki Clair kindly donated the raffle prize which was won by Del 🎁 After a bit of guessing about whether the mystery items were coloured balls for the crows to take away, Del was very relieved to discover they were actually shoe scents ⚽️🥎🎾⚾️😂

Next week many of our regular players will be away at the district tournament, so we’ll play another club trophy Stableford event. Good luck to everyone competing 🍀⛳️

Club Quirindi Tuesday Vets Report.
26th May 2026
After last week’s washout and under threatening skies, a modest field of Tuesday Vets contested a front-nine Single Stableford event at Club Quirindi Golf Course. Conditions improved as the round progressed, allowing play to be completed. Recent rain has brought strong growth to the fairways and, with the local rule requiring players to tee up through the green still in place, scoring remained high. Nearest-the-pin prizes were contested on the two par-3 holes, the 4th and 8th.
The major prize was decided on countback, with Tony Cattell taking the win over Malcolm Clarke after both finished on 23 points. Kathy Schroeder followed with 22 points, while John Southam returned 19. The leading pair also shared the nearest-the-pin honours, with Tony winning the 4th and Malcolm the 8th. In the clubhouse raffle, Tony completed a successful day by drawing his own ticket to claim the prize.
Next Friday, 29th May, several Tuesday Vets will travel to Narrabri Golf Club for the Central North Veteran Golf Association event. Prior to today’s round, the yearly points standings were led by John Southam on 13 points, followed by Kathy Schroeder and Peter Vereyken on 12, and Gwen Benham on 11.
The three-month Single Stableford competition will begin on 2nd June and conclude on 25th August. Best wishes to all players.
A reminder that during the winter months, Tuesday Vets will assemble at 8:30 am for a 9:00 am hit-off. As the fairways remain in recovery, cart drivers are asked to travel through the rough and enter the fairway at 90 degrees to their ball.

Golf Report 23rd May 2026
Golfers assembled for the Plains Pantry trophy day last Saturday hosted by Hannah and Ben, Lara and Matt. Our thanks to them for their support to the Golf Club. We are grateful for that, but more so for their ‘pantry’ situated in Willow Tree where you can purchase coffee and great food which includes their famous home-made pies.
The club welcomed Charles Hill, once a local Stuart Bell and Mark Thompson visiting from Sydney.
The field were so excited to see the course ‘greening up’ from the recent rain. The days of tees and mats are numbered and the soft fairways with no-run have become ‘party poopers’ for some of our golfers.
Cameron Marquett, our youngest golfer put a great round together to win the day with 44pts on a countback from Ros Sadler. It’s the best score he has recorded in his short time of playing golf. Ros should be congratulated for her great round. Well played by both of you. Its rumoured the ‘grim reaper’ savagely adjusted your handicaps. Other good scores were recorded by Brian Black 41pts, Wayne Nichols 39pts, Hamish Saunders 38pts, Harry Schroeder, Cameron Davies and Bob Atchison 36pts.

Next week’s golf is Rob and Tempe Onus, Ken and Sue Cudmore’s 4BBB trophy day. The competition will include a 4BBB inn conjunction with a single stableford. With the course responding to recent rainfall, its rumoured the mower gang will have the course looking magnificent for this event.
In finishing, it was terribly sad news that the golfing community heard of the passing of our just retired green keeper ‘Chop’ Ian Elphick. The club extends our deepest sympathy to the Elphick family at this very sad time. He will be missed by many.

Quirindi Golfers will know “Chop” from his years of work and helping out with our wonderful greens. We are thinking of Chop and his family at this time.

Sharing with you some news from Matt Duff about his mate Ian ‘chop’ Elphick - former superintendent at Gunnedah GC and NSWGCSA board director.

“For all of us who know the legendary Ian “Chop” Elphick, and those that have heard many a great tale about the big man, unfortunately he has been unwell for a while.

Chop went about this the same way he did everything, he didn’t want the fuss and didn’t want to worry anyone about it.

It saddens me to inform you all of this, but Chop’s health has declined rapidly, and he is now in Pallative Care.

He’s a great man and a legend of our industry. He holds a special spot in the hearts of so many people.

Please keep Chop and his lovely family in your thoughts and prayers during these difficult times”

Golf Report 16th May 2026
A ‘picture perfect’ day greeted all for the annual Prowse and Gulliver family’s 4BBB trophy day. Our thanks to Mike and Jules Prowse, Grayson and Jane Gulliver for putting on a great day with there generosity extending to longest drives and beautiful bottles of ‘red’ for NTP’s.
Golfers welcomed Pauline Stewart back from Tamworth, Murdo Cadel and Therese Rawson with cameo appearances and Mike Prowse who was once very much a regular overcoming a back issue to play 18 holes. The mower gang and their friends also made an appearance. It’s rumoured that while their machines have been idle, they have taken it upon themselves to become bakers of liquefied cakes!! Hopefully the rain comes soon.
The course was presented in good condition. The greens have recovered from the renovations and Greenkeeper James found pin placements that had the longitude and latitude of the world working overtime!
Pairings were sorted due to marriages or in the carpark, with a common theme of all feeling they had that ‘winning feeling’ and ‘push through’ to take home the prizes!
The pairing of Richard and Robina Burns, well they had a day to remember producing a magnificent 4BBB score of 54pts. Runners up with a score that would win any other day were Murdo Cadel and Ange Lavender with 51pts. Vouchers went to Brian Black and Wayne Nichols, Liam McCain and Ken Thornton with a respectable 45pts.
In the individual stableford, drum roll please, Robina Burns played a round of golf she will remember for years. The stars aligned for her to post 54pts. Well played. Runner up was Ange Lavender with 40pts, Harry Schroeder (voucher winner) 39pts, Ken Cudmore and Ken Thornton 38pts with Brian Black and Murdo Cadel on 37pts getting the last of the vouchers. Other good scores on 37pts were Richard Burns, Ben Clift, Tempe Onus, Wayne Nichols and Ros Sadler.

The Longest Drive for men was won by Ray Lamb and Ros Sadler won the ladies.
On reflection, a third of the field played better or to their handicap. The grim reaper (handicapper) found a few individuals and ‘played havoc’ with their handicaps. For 2/3rds of the field, they can reflect on the fact that there is always next week!!!
Next week’s golf is the Plains Pantry trophy day. The event for the day will be a single stableford.
Finally, it’s sad that our local newspaper, The Quirindi Advocate has had its last publication. On behalf of all of us at the Golf Club, thank you for over 100 years of supporting the community, organisations and clubs such as ours.
