Are traditional bike computers like Garmin or Wahoo too expensive and complicated for a casual weekend ride? 🐝

If you want to build your confidence and learn to ride the better, quieter trails across Sydney without staring at a cluttered screen, I have been testing the smaller tool. The Beeline Velo 2 is a minimalist, $160 navigation puck that strips away confusing maps and simply points you in the right direction.

To see how it handles real urban exploring, I took it on a test ride from Paddington down to Rushcutters Bay. This video features a split-screen so you can see exactly how the smartphone app communicates with the handlebar device in real time. Using "Breadcrumb Mode," it becomes easy to follow custom off-road paths and quiet ways whilst minimising wrong turns.

Some homework till the El Ninja rain blows away.

The 🍋‍🟩 app has been modified to disable the bike if a jousting stick is detected. Note: If you wish to purchase a jousting stick, check with the cast of the play The Castle to see if the sellers are dreaming 🤔

E-bike rental company Lime has said its bikes are "not for jousting" after footage of two riders dressed as knights charging at each other in London circulated over the weekend.

Did City of Sydney just deliver a masterclass in urban design? 🚲

I took a ride down Primrose Avenue in Rosebery to explore the new “Quiet Way”—a standard road transformed into a pedestrian and cyclist haven. By closing off through-traffic and adding priority crossings, this project is a real-world proof of concept for people-first streets.

A few clever infrastructure highlights from the ride:

Peach-colored road treatments and a shift to diagonal parking.

Sunken rain gardens designed to manage local flooding.

Unique “green honeycomb” painted crossings (though a few drivers are still adjusting to the pop-out garden beds!).

Dead-ending streets for cars while leaving them open for bikes to kill rat-running.

Thoughtful council interventions really do build quieter, safer, and more connected neighborhoods.
