Last Saturday at the Naracoorte Bowls Club Tim Wrightson and Keith Dowdell played off in the Lower South East Champion of Champions Pairs.
They played Stev Howie and Michael Lowrie from Keith.
Wrightson and Dowdell jumped from the start scoring a 2,4 and 1 before Howie and Lowrie scored 1.
The Port MacDonnell players settled in winning the next 5 ends until the Keith players scored a 4 to make the score 5 shots to 14.
Wrightson and Dowdell scored successive 4’s to take their tally to 22 after 12 ends.
Howie and Lowrie were not to be put off and scored a 1 on each of the next 2 ends.
With the score line at 22 -7 the game was declared over.
The Port MacDonnell & District Bowling Club is very proud of Tim and Keith’s achievement. Regional Champions.!

Su***de Prevention Workshop 23rd April 2025

Supported by a Preventative Health SA Su***de Prevention Grant

What a great turnout for the Su***de Prevention Workshop, held at Port Macdonnell and District Bowling Club, supported by a Preventative Health SA Su***de Prevention Grant. With 30 people turning up, it shows how much of a caring community we work, live and play in.

Big thankyou to Geoff Hodge from Lifeline for presenting such a powerful workshop, keeping us all interested and answering questions.

John from Pt Macdonnell opened the day, with a heart-warming story, telling us about incidents in his life and how having people who care around him, helped him through that. Thank you, John, for opening up, being so sincere and telling your story. There were definitely people in the room who related to it.

Although the weather outside was a little chilly, inside there was lots of thoughtful discussions had, over a beautiful lunch of hot soup and bread, a variety of salad rolls, apple crumble with icecream, cakes, slices, cups of tea and coffee .

Thank you to the 30 participants who all walked away with more knowledge on how to help each other out when things are tough.

Fourteen Pairs made up the numbers for the Mixed Pairs Championship held on Easter Saturday. The day was overcast and there wasn’t a breath of wind to make bowling difficult when play got underway .

First round winners were George Johnston and Lorraine Mackereth, Chris Richards and Judy Grosvenor, Henk Sprakel and Jennie Tilley, Bill Richards and Heather Richards, Wayne Dowdell and Sherie Richards, Kel Butler and Sharon Perryman.
Second round winners were Richards and Grosvenor, Sprakel and Tilley, Dowdell and Richards and Keith and Jan Dowdell.
As the semi final games began so did the very strong winds come up and made bowling far more difficult. But Richards and Grosvenor and Dowdell and Dowdell were able to make their way into the finals play off.
By the 8th end Richards and Grosvenor had skipped out to a 16-3 lead.
After 13 ends the score line read 19 -6 and by the 14th end 19-8. Game over..
Congratulations to Chris and Judy who took out the Championship Title after an absence of a few years.
Well done to Keith and Jan, runners up for season 24-25.

In perfect conditions Port McDonnell hosted the Veteran’s Champion of Champions.
All of the minor round games were very or relatively close which provided excellent viewing for the spectators.
The Men’s final was between Neil Watts from Kingston and Rod Gibbs from Millicent.
After 9 ends Watts was well in front with the score 10 -3.
But after 14 ends Gibbs had it back to 11-10.
Then after 21 ends they were all square on 16-16. At the completion of 23 ends it was 17 17. After 25 ends it was 18 all.
With Watts scoring a 1 and a 2
It was game over and Neil Watts the victor. Congratulations Neil.
The Ladies final was played off between Beryl Versluis representing Mt Gambier and Port MacDonnell’s Heather Richards.
At the completion of 6 ends the score was 4-4. Then after 10 ends Versluis lead 5-10.
Richards was clawing back and when 15 ends had been played the score read 8-12. Scoring a 1, 1,3,1, and a 2 the score had blown out to Versluis holding a
8-19 lead.
It was Richards turn to strut her stuff scoring the perfect 4,1 and 1.
That 5 point buffer remained with the score at 14-19. Both players scored 2 more shots but it put Versluis to 21 and a very worthy winner .

Didn’t we have a lovely day
the day we went to Dartmoor…

It was a perfect day in every way yesterday for our annual Dartmoor Exchange.

2 games of 10 end bowls were played one before lunch and one after.
Our lunch was amazing with cold meats and a fabulous selection of salads.
And to top it off the array of sweets to try was simply super.😋😋
There were quite a few groans as players tried to bowl after lunch🫢
Elaine Hutchesson and Bruce Bavin won the closest to the ditch prizes, with Graham Lucas winning the resting toucher.

Terry Seiler, Phil Jones, Darryl Jenkins and Graham Lucas were the winners.
Ross Kerr, Ian Brown, Elaine Hutchesson and Ben Tilley were runners up.
We all came home very happy and looking forward to next year’s exchange when it is our turn to host. Thanks everyone!

The Kingston SE Bowling Club hosted the LSEBA Champion of Championship Pairs last Sunday.
The weather was quite challenging for the bowlers due to the strong wind and chilly temperature.
Despite the adverse conditions, good bowling was witnessed throughout the day until the finalists were determined.

The ladies final was contested between Judy Grosvenor/Jan Dowdell from Port MacDonnell, and Jenny Robertson/Tracey Willmott from Kingston.
We watched good bowling from both teams considering the gusty, strong wind. Ultimately Kingston emerged victorious defeating Pt MacDonnell by 3 shots.

The Men's final was played between Tim Wrightson/Keith Dowdell from Pt MacDonnell and Michael Fox/Zac Pearson from Mt Gambier RSL. This was a closely contested game with Pt MacDonnell winning by 3 shots .

The Port MacDonnell Bowling Club is extremely proud of Tim and Keith winning the pairs and Judith and Jan being Runners Up. For a small club our players definitely punch above their weight.

I still find it hard to believe that we won premierships in both Division 1 and Division 2.
Division 1 played a nail biter all day and held on to win by 3shots. 42shots 6 points to Millicent 39shots 2 points.
Division 2 were soundly beaten by Mt Gambier RSL on their home ground in the semifinal and realised that it would be to our advantage on a neutral green.
The results vindicated this belief and with great team play on both rinks the winning scores were 63shots 8 points to Mt Gambier RSL 20 shots 0 points.
“Oh what a feeling!”
We are very grateful for the support we’ve had throughout the season and particularly to those who travelled yesterday too.!
