First Tae Kwon Do Ocean Reef provides traditional martial art and practical self-defence training to children (6 years+), adolescents, and adults. Our members train twice per week and also have the option of attending other First Tae Kwon Do classes at other venues throughout the week at no extra cost. We provide a non-contact style of training, and do not participate in martial art competitions s

uch as tournaments. Our training focuses on both personal development and being realistically prepared for self-defence situations, with the clear recognition that avoidance is best. Our members include schoolchildren, university students, and business professionals who understand the importance of honing their situational awareness and training to be mentally and physically ready for self-defence action, if the need should arise. We invite prospective members to come along to a class to see what our training is like, and to apply for a free, no-obligation introductory class. 🥋 Side Kick Saturday 🥋 This week's Side Kick Saturday spotlight shines on Lily, a dedicated 2nd Kup from our Ocean Reef Dojang!

Lily demonstrates excellent technique in this photo, showing the key ingredients of a good side kick — strong balance, great body position, focused eyes, and a fully extended kicking leg. These skills don't happen overnight; they are built through consistent training, determination, and a commitment to continual improvement.

As students progress through the colour belt ranks, mastering techniques like the side kick develops not only physical strength and coordination but also confidence, discipline, and perseverance. Lily's hard work is a great example of what can be achieved through regular practice and a positive attitude.

Side Kick Saturday 👊 3rd Kup, Emily and sister Caitlyn , 2nd Kup from our Ocean Reef Dojang showing that Taekwondo training never takes a holiday!

While enjoying a recent family trip to Kalbarri, Emily & Caitlyn took the opportunity to continue developing one of the most important techniques in Taekwondo — the side kick. From the shoreline reflections to the rocky landscapes of Kalbarri, she demonstrated excellent balance, control, flexibility and focus in every photo.

Strong technique is built through consistent practice, and students who continue training outside the dojang often develop the discipline and technical precision that separates good martial artists from great ones.

Excellent work Emily and Caitlyn — a fantastic example of dedication, spirit and pride in your training wherever you go! 👏
