Team Boyne Racing Update-

Desert Whisper

There are no other words for it, she has had a shocker. I'll leave the stewards comments post race below.

So now it's a bit of a wait and see. Was there an underlying excuse for today? Was she up against too many issues? Time will tell.

Hopefully she is ok and if not, recovers quickly. Her specialist 1000m races are few and far between at her level, so it is a bit of a mystery what she will do going forward.

Team Boyne Racing Update-

Desert Whisper

🐴

Today we return to wet weather racing on the Perth winter racing track at Belmont Racecourse.

Desert Whisper has been tearing up the training track, with trainer and jockeys alike barely able to contain her. And rightfully, she enters today's 72+ handicap race as the raging betting odds favourite ($1.80 OP!)

Hopefully she has left a little in the tank after this week's gallops, as she will spring from barrier 5 today. With last start winning apprentice Natika Riordan back on board, we will claim the 3kg advantage and bring her weight down to 58kg (never mind the maths on the TabTouch expert).

There are a few questions to ask. How will she go back at Belmont? How will she go carrying 58kg? (She has won multiple times at 57.5kg) and how will she go against our old nemesis William Pike?

It's another stiff test for our masterful mare, but with 7 wins now under her belt, her fitness at its peak and a jockey who now knows what to expect from her... we will hopefully see her do, what Desert Whisper does best. Jump. Run. Win.

She will be in front at the turn and give them something to chase. Let's hope she can hold on for another victory and we are back in the winners circle bar this afternoon.

Cheers!

Jump. Run. Win!

The fast filly is back! With a blistering time of 57.26 our girl did her thing. Jumped to the front, put three lengths on them and didn't give them a chance. What a win!

Will wait on post race comments and plans from the trainer but for now, we savour her 7th victory, which now puts her career earnings at nearly half a million dollars!

Remember, if you're interested in horse ownership, make sure to contact Belhus Racing Stables and mention my name ;)

Team Boyne Racing Update-

Desert Whisper

We are back!

The fastest filly in the stable makes her LONG awaited return to the track this weekend on the last day of Ascot racing for this season. We see her coming back to the 72+ grade after her last venture in Listed company.

And while there were many nominations, they began to drop like flies as, I suspect, the field saw some of the names presented. Smoov Moova...Black Ora...Kay Tee Why... and of course our girl!

With a high end rating of 82, our girl was weighted accordingly at 59kg. We take the apprentice claim of 3kg with Natika Riordan climbing on board for the first time to bring us down to 56kg. Running from our favoured inside barrier (2) one suspects the young apprentices instructions will be to 'Hold on, enjoy the ride and don't fall off'.

In all seriousness though it is great to see Desert Whisper back in the Belhus Racing Stables Blue and White. She had her excuses back on January 1 with respiratory issues and then following up with hoof abscesses delaying her return even longer. With no trial behind her, it is a bit of a guessing game but we just hope she comes through this with a clean bill of health before the next target race is locked in.

See you at the races!

One of the biggest race days in Perth, if not Australia, is back tomorrow with the running of the $5,000,000 Quokka slot race at Ascot.

The Quokka forms part of a trilogy of races across all three codes of racing- Greyhound/Harness and Thoroughbreds.

But have no doubt, the biggest race of them all is the Quokka.

On the same day, we also have the $200,000 'Joey' 1200m race and the time-honoured $500,000 Karrakatta Plate for some of the state's best 2yo racers.

I am going to have a look at the fields for these 3 races and see if we can't find a winner and maybe a value play or two for each.

----------------------------------
The Quokka

Let's start with the big one. The $5,000,000 slot race that will stop a state for a blistering minute and a bit. Raced over 1200m, it features some of the best sprinters in the country. Scheduled to run at 3:45pm, its race 8 on the card and it seems to be an open race this year.

My pick- Rey Magnerio

I love this horse. Have been a big fan for the last couple of years and was excited to see his last W.A Campaign which resulted in a massive Gold Rush win. He is proven at the track, he is proven at the distance and he was only 1.5 lengths behind Jigsaw, arguably the most in form horse in this race, in their previous meeting. With Pikey on board again, I can see him stalking the leaders and swooping in late to take the prize.

Value pick- Magnificent Andy ($41)

The old fella is getting on a bit however he has looked supreme in his two trials to date and he gets back to a distance that better suits him in these types of race. A cheeky tenner each way wouldn't go astray.

------------------------------
The Joey

For the horses that almost made it. Keep in mind the best horses in this race are also the last minute emergencies for the Quokka and may not race the Joey if they get the last minute call up.

My Pick- Repossession

Clearly the class horse of the race. I still rue the day that Desert Whisper was matched against him at Belmont last year and got scratched at the barriers. This horse gone on to do some extraordinary things and with a 97 rating, should account for most of these. The distance is the query and Cessation the main danger.

Value Pick- Wineoclocksomewhere ($14)

If this horse can produce in the city the same form it has been down south, it is a serious contender. Tash Faithfull knows this horse inside out and has tasted much success on him. Time to see what he can produce and I would have him in a SRM with Repossession to win and this one to finish top 3.

-------------------------------
Karrakatta Plate

Not that long ago I had dreams of Surefire Miss maybe running in this race, but alas it was not to be. Hopefully a future Team Boyne Racing member will step up to the plate. The 2yo 'championship' race sees some of the states best youngsters fighting it out. There are some absolute stars in this race.

My Pick- Aurum Belle

The undefeated favourite just keeps stepping up and knocking them out of the park. Her times are phenomenal and should see her get the 1200m with ease, though I don't expect this to be quiet as convincing as her first three wins. The barrier is questionable. How will she run from the river versus another undefeated horse in Beatty coming from barrier 1? I think she will find a way and take the win, but this is definitely the sternest test so far. I've got a feeling we need to appreciate this horse while we still have her in W.A because I think bigger races over east will be calling Aurum Belle's name after this race.

Value Pick- Snow Monkey ($17)

Has been targeted for this race and has produced some very good runs without a win. Gets the experienced Eastern States jockey on board and has the potential to upset some of the more fancied runners. Simon Miller knows what hes doing with horses like this. Keep safe with a SRM top 4 finish and Aurum Belle Top 2.

Good luck, good punting and as always, gamble responsibly.

Bit of a different one for Team Boyne Racing today.

I am sticking fat with my stable of three this autumn season as all three look to make their returns (and debut) on the tracks just as the grass gets softer and the sun gets a little smoother.

With Desert Whisper back in work after a long lay off, En Plein Air resting up and Surefire Miss biding her time down south too, I have cast my eye over some of the horses currently available for share purchases at Belhus Racing Stables.

These are just my opinions and ratings and do not reflect on the work of anyone involved at Belhus. Pete and his team do a magnificent job sourcing these yearlings and as you have seen with my previous purchases, their strike rate of yearlings into winners is extraordinary.

You can find out more about each of these yearlings by visiting https://belhusracing.com.au/horses-available/

Let's cast our eye over this year's crop:

Earthlight – Pouakai (C**t)

$7,130 per 5%

Team Boyne Racing Score: 8/10

The premium buy of the summer. This c**t screams early speed and early headlines. He’s the type that either has you shouting your syndicate name over the rail… or checking barrier trials with mild anxiety. No middle ground. (Though to be fair I do this with all mine too). His breeding suggests that he should stretch out further with age so if this price is in your wheelhouse, you could be in for a long and fruitful ownership.

Marine One – Bound Copy (Filly)

$2,650 per 5%

Team Boyne Racing Score: 8.5/10

This is my personal favourite of the yearlings. The value for money is exceptional, and if I were in the market this year, this is where I would invest. She ticks all of my boxes and is sure to do the same for many of you, especially if you follow the numbers and the breeding like I like to. I will be following her career with earnest and a slight hint of jealousy too.

Splintex – Hallowell Angel (Filly)

$3,300 per 5%

Team Boyne Racing Score: 7.5/10

This horse screams W.A Racing type. She will jump, run fast and collect pay checks. She should be an early runner and will be a very lucrative purchase for those chasing Westspeed Platinum bonuses. She is also a stunning looking race horse too. She is priced slightly out of my comfort zone if I was looking to buy in for what she presents, but if the money is right for you, I don't think you'll go too wrong with her.

Peltzer – Miss Fraser (Filly)

$2,710 per 5%

Team Boyne Racing Score: 8/10

What a weekend Peltzer had as a stallion this past weekend! She may just be the omen choice of this lot if you follow the races over east. The Dam side is a little thin on success, so there is a little risk involved, but if you looked at her athletic formation, then a lot of those worries should disappear! She will be an early runner and is probably my second pick of the lot based on value for race watch alongs alone.

Almanzor – Summer’s Day (Filly)

$4,370 per 5%

Team Boyne Racing Score: 8/10

Potentially the 'dark horse' of the crop (pun intended) this filly is one that will probably take a little time to develop her peak, but her potential will be worth the wait. She’s built for the long game — the kind that might not debut early but could be the one you’re still talking about in three years. Presents good value based on potential.

So there you have it. Just a short review of what Belhus Racing Stables have on offer at the moment. If you do get in contact with Pete, make sure to mention me. Not for any real reason other than to boost my ego!

Would you like more yearling reviews? Maybe some current runners not under the Belhus banner? If you're interested in anything like that, let me know in the comments below!

Cheers!

Team Boyne Racing Update-

🐴

En Plein Air

An unfortunate race for a veteran mare yesterday. A tricky draw and quick field led to her being stuck in a position yesterday that was like putting a wall up in front of her. Unable to breakthrough, she spent most of the race at the back end of the field and that's where she finished.

Jockey Lucy Fiore is adamant that she needs the step up to 1400m and that the softer grounds would suit her best. So En Plein Air will have a few weeks off and then come back ready for the longer distance races on the *hopefully* softer tracks around the beginning of the Belmont season.

Team Boyne Racing Update-

🐴

En Plein Air

Our old girl is heading back into battle today. She is a long odds chance according to the market and one assumes this is because of what most people would call a poor first run two weeks ago.

However, she was flying late in that race and really kicking into gear, just at the wrong stage, which may have been to be expected after such a long lay off. She also came through with some bruising to the heels post race, but this has been dealt with in her training.

She has yet to be unplaced in ANY second up race attempt and has won twice before at 1200m second up, including at this same track 8 months ago when she carved up the field late to secure an impressive victory. We will be looking to do the same again today with a few speedsters in this race. Hopefully she finds her top gear quicker and other than the heels, she should be rock hard fit now!

Team Boyne Racing is unable to make it Bunbury today but we will be cheering on from the poolside TV screen in this scorching weather and hopefully our girl can salute!

Cheers
