Cycle X Canada

Cycle X Canada A blog about a 6,000km cycling expedition across Canada. We plan to begin in Quebec City and finish in Vancouver 3 months later.

Welcome, bienvenu, velkommen, welkom

We are embarking on a cycling expedition across Canada that will span 6,000km from the Atlantic to the Pacific starting June 2025. It's not just a physical journey; it's an exploration of the Canadian spirit and the natural wonders that define this beautiful country. We named our journey CycleXCanada as it isn't just about exploration and adventure; it's also

about making a difference for causes close to our hearts. As outdoor enthusiasts and passionate advocates for environmental conservation and global well-being, we decided to use our journey as an opportunity to raise funds and awareness for organizations making a tangible impact. We are currently in discussion with various animal/environmental charities and will announce shortly whom we will ambassador for. You can help with any one or all of these things:
- follow our page, the more followers, the more attention we get
- please spread the word, word of mouth is soooo powerful
- hit the GoFundMe button to make a donation

Lastly, THANK YOU you for your engagement and support, Stephan and Louise

Some stats for those interested….. We cycle for 114 days (on a 6 day cycle, 1 day rest roster), covered 8,586 km and averaged about 88km per cycle day.

We had one tyre blow out (and one fall), 5 broken spokes on 5 separate occasions , one chain brake and one chain mangled, some gear levers not working, a broken rack (bolt sheared off) a tyre puncture requiring a plug and a leaking tyre valve and serviced our bikes 3 times during our trip (some tyres replaced as worn along with bike chains). All in all, I believe, we were extremely lucky with minimal technical issues 😃

Been having a glorious 3 days relax and enjoying the coastline south of Halifax. Been based at Chester basin and explored Chester, Malone Bay (having a scarecrow festival), Lunenburg, Blue Rock and Peggy’s Cove. Just when I find a place where I go “this is it” we discover another. Gorgeous quaint, picturesque, towns in sheltered bays. Just beautiful. We are now at the airport on our way back to Vancouver and one more night in Canada before we fly back home.

Our last day touring 🤩☹️, Thursday, Halifax, 35km cycled. The morning started off cold and foggy on the lakes, rather beautiful. An easy cycle into the city, over the bridge and found our finish line. Don’t think it’s registering that we are done! Park was rather busy so it was difficult to get the drone up, but managed a quick video of our finish point. Spent the day checking out the city and then grabbed a hire car and drove to Chester 70km away for 3 days in a house by a cove for some R&R (not sure we know how to do this). Gotta clean and pack up the bikes and gear too. We fly out on Sunday, back to Vancouver and on Monday head home to Perth. I will work out our final stats and post this later.

2 days to the finish 😃😃😃, Wednesday, Brookfield to Miller Lake, 78km cycled. Just loving these fall colours as we wind our way through country roads, twisting turning, rolling up and down. Really enjoyed today, maybe because it’s our last long cycle as tomorrow’s is pretty short into Halifax and the finish line!

3 days to the finish, Tuesday, Lyons Brook to Hilden, 71km cycled. A day of cycling into a headwind, the kind where you have to pedal to get down the hill!!! Probably our worst headwind this whole trip, clearly we’re are going to have to work for our finish. The autumn colours are really coming out and thrilled that we get to see this. All shades of reds, oranges, yellows and made a nice distraction from the hard work.

4 days to the finish, Monday, Charlottetown to Lyons Brook, 81km cycled. Sad to say goodbye to this island and would love to come back and explore at a more leisure pace. We had a bit of pressure on to get to our 1:30 ferry on time so did a steady pace on the railway cycle trails and got to the port with 40 mins to spare. Crossed over and entered our 9th and last province of Nova Scotia.

5 days to the finish, Sunday, Cavendish to Charlottetown, 81km cycled. Had a fabulous cycle along the northern shores of this island before heading inland to the capital on the south side. Such great scenery, wish I had more time in this place.
