BRIAN MACKIE'S KARATELIFE
Japan Issued Master Title Renshi Shihan 6th Dan International Karate-Do Goju-Kai Association, member of both Karate WA the only Government recognised body and Karate Australia, KidSport Approved, Authentic Japanese Dojo Brian a 8th Dan Hanshi Shihan, has been teaching at the Karate Academy of Japan in Perth since 1966. Australia's first Gold Medallist in an official

International Championships, Brian became the Australian Karate Federation's National Coach on his retirement from international competition. I am privileged to be a student of Goshi Yamaguchi, Grand Master of the International Goju-Kai Karate-do Association. In 2001 I was awarded my 8th Dan black belt and hold the rank Hanshi a Masters teaching degree from Master Yamaguchi. For the past 50 years I have successfully represented Australia as a competitor and National Team Coach. As the Director of Goju-Kai Oceana I personally ensure that the level of instruction you will receive at any of our clubs will be of the highest standard.

The countdown is on for one of the biggest events on the Karate WA calendar — the 2026 Karate WA League Perth Open!

This exciting tournament will be the final major event before the WA State Team departs to represent Western Australia at the 2026 Karate Australia National Championships, making it the perfect opportunity for athletes to sharpen their skills, build confidence and gain valuable competition experience before stepping onto the national stage.

Developing Divisions
Team Kata Events

Whether you are an experienced competitor or preparing for your first tournament, there is something for everyone.

Competitors are encouraged to check with their coach prior to registration to ensure they are entering the correct divisions.

Sincere thanks to all that contributed in any way big or small ,athletes parents coaches referees officials volunteers and ofcourse all the supporting clubs and Karate Australia WA.

Without everyone coming together it can’t be done nearly 400 entries 5 tatamis all day on schedule and no incidents what a day.
