Whilst cruising around Australia, the owner of this magnificent 50 FT catamaran called into Fremantle to explore the area and have the big blue catamaran checked over and serviced by Diverse Engineering and Fibrelite Boats. 🌊
🛥Setting sail for Rottnest, they arrived in one of the beautiful bays only to have their adventure go a little awry when the catamaran’s anchor dragged and she collided with another boat anchored in the bay.
The damage wasn’t catastrophic, but it was serious and extensive.
Two holes were punctured through the catamaran’s starboard side; one almost a metre square, and whilst there was also quite extensive damage to the interior, fortunately, all the damage was above the waterline!
The damage to the other boat, luckily, was minor.
With the cat back in Fremantle for repairs, our extensive experience and expertise in the repair of composite and fibreglass hulls was called upon.
With the boat out of the water, the cracked and damaged interior and exterior hull material was removed and the full extend of the damage was evident.
Ongoing repairs were required to both the hull and dagger boards, in addition to a repaint and antifoul.
☀️ All’s well that ends well....
The big blue catamaran returned to Fremantle Sailing Club good as new, and is all ready to continue her cruise around Australia.
We wish them luck on the rest of their voyage! 👋🏼
