What a turnout for our Breaking Barriers Women’s Lifting Workshop, held at Jetts Nowra 

I am so honoured to have created a space for these women to learn, ask questions, build confidence, and challenge some of the misconceptions that so many women have been taught about lifting weights.

We discussed strength training, bone health, muscle mass, ageing, and why lifting weights is one of the most powerful things women can do for their long-term health. More importantly, we opened up conversations, shared experiences, and hopefully removed a little of the fear that can come with stepping into the weights area.

Spending the morning with so many women who were keen to learn, ask questions, and better understand their bodies was something pretty special.

Thank you to every woman who came along and contributed to the discussion. I hope you left with a better understanding of why strength training matters and feeling a little more confident walking into the gym 🧡💪🏽

Here's why: the people who actually get lasting results aren't chasing quick fixes. They're chasing a lifestyle - a permanent change.
They're not on an 8-week challenge. They're not torturing themselves for 6 weeks then 'taking a break.' They're asking themselves: What do I actually enjoy doing? What can I sustain? How do I eat in a way that works for my life? And then they just... live that way.
The people getting real, lasting results aren't more disciplined. They're more patient. They understand that their body is built by what they do most of the time, not by what they do sometimes. So they make choices that stick.
That means finding movement you enjoy. Understanding food, not fighting it. Being educated enough to make choices that don't completely derail when life happens. And knowing this is how you live now. Not how you're trying to live for the next 8 weeks.
Here's the timeline:

Quick fix: 8-12 weeks, then back to square one
Consistency: 6 months to see real shifts, 1-2 years to feel like your normal
The payoff: It stays. Because you're living it, not white-knuckling it.

Of course, there's nuance. Sometimes you need stricter protocols to hit a body composition goal. But if the fundamental lifestyle habits aren't also addressed, you go right back to square one eventually. Think about how many times you've started again?
Quick fixes fail. Consistency wins. Always.

Meet Alycia 💪🏽

Professional Grand Prix Dressage Rider, business owner, mother and running enthusiast 🐎🏃‍♀️✨

Alycia has represented Australia at the Young Rider World Cup, Tri Nations Cup, and Prix St Georges Cup, and developed her previous Grand Prix horse, CP Dresden, from a young horse through to successful Grand Prix-level competition. She consistently competes at state and national level while producing multiple horses through the grades.

She’s as fiercely competitive in the gym as she is in the arena.
Alycia and I train together 1–2x per week, working on posture, full-body strength, and unilateral work to support longevity in everything she loves.

Strength training is vital if you want to perform better in your sport, enjoy your hobbies, and move through life feeling strong, capable, and independent.
