People often underestimate the positive emotions and outcomes people who are the recipients of random acts of kindness feel.

DEMAND IS RISING FOR HEALTH LEADERSHIP.
Calls for healthier workplaces are coming from the ground floor and the trading floor alike. Organisations that put the health of their customers and employees first are best equipped to meet rising demand for human capital performance.

We’ve all been hurt by someone. It could have been a major betrayal, or a series of smaller wrongdoings. Maybe we were cheated on by our lover, or gotten fired for something you feel wasn’t fair. Maybe you have a relative that makes constant small lies that add up to resentment against them.

It’s understandable to have anger as the first emotion to register when you see that person. Sometimes the mere sound of their name might make your blood boil. You think of what they’ve done, and how it made you feel. Maybe their actions turned your life upside down.

It’s easy to hold onto that anger. Some people even go from hatred to wanting to enact vengeance.

That is the kind of anger that is unhealthy. You need to release these grudges.

When being told to let go, it sounds as if you need to completely embrace that person back into your life and trust them completely. But to release a grudge is not pulling a 180. It’s just releasing the anger that surfaces whenever you think of them.

You can still recognize how you were hurt by whatever actions. You can still understand how whatever happened has changed your life. Try putting it in writing. Converting it into something tangible turns it into something external. This can give you visual closure when you do whatever you want with that writing. Some people burn it, others tear it up. Maybe storing it somewhere you never go. However you do it, it’ll be a cleansing ritual.

When you do let go, that doesn’t mean you condone what happened to you. It just means that you don’t let it weigh you down anymore.

At The Catharsis Society we have a variety of services designed for whatever you need. Perhaps you need guidance through letting go. We can try this along with other methods to break that chain tying you down

“Everyone else knows what they’re doing. I’m not as good as they are.”
“Everyone looks at me like I’m the expert. I don’t know what I’m doing.”
“Eventually they’ll see I’m not talented. It’s all a fluke.”

Have you ever felt like you haven’t deserved your achievements? Like you just got lucky?

Does it feel like people are just giving compliments to be nice, and not from a genuine place of admiration?

That’s Impostor Syndrome. And anywhere from 50-70% of people have experienced it in some form.

Impostor Syndrome is the feeling that you didn’t actually earn your accomplishments through merit. You feel like you’re not nearly as good as everyone thinks you are. You think that you’ll make one wrong move and everyone will realize you’re a fraud.

In more extreme cases, those with Impostor Syndrome may overwork, trying to maintain what they consider “the lie.” In most cases people will refuse to believe any praise that comes their way, beyond mere humility. It becomes an endless cycle of anxiety at things they once loved doing. They may even stop completely.

Some of the most successful people have been through it. Maya Angelou, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Lady Gaga. They all have discussed their memories with it. Trust when you are told you are not alone.

Don’t let the doubt take over. Believe the compliment. It was earned.

“That’s not what happened.”
“You’re overreacting.”
“I wouldn’t have done that to you.”

Gaslighting is a form of psychological abuse where a person or group makes someone question their sanity, perception of reality, or memories. People experiencing gaslighting often feel confused, anxious, and unable to trust themselves. (Medical News Today)

The term comes from the famous play Gaslight, along with the subsequent film. The story revolves around a husband who manipulates his wife into thinking she has mental illness. One of his tactics revolves around dimming their gas-fueled lighting and convincing her that she is hallucinating.

Gaslighting is often discussed in the context of romantic relationships. However gaslighting permeates family dynamics, friendships, and even the workplace.

Just about anybody can be susceptible to gaslighting, but individuals with low self esteem, anxiety, and ADHD are particularly vulnerable to it.

Know that there is hope, that you can rebuild, and that it is NOT your fault.
