Last month, Master Michael Nguyen and Sabumnim Larita Bouphasavanh had a wonderful few days with Sabumnim Doug Swain and his Team Doug's Dojang in Rockhampton (Queensland), sharing in a weekend of training, learning, friendship and fun.

Across the weekend, it was a pleasure to deliver a range of specialist Taekwon-Do clinics and training sessions for students of all ages and levels. The enthusiasm, focus and positive energy from everyone involved made the experience incredibly rewarding.

Outside the Dojang, the weekend was just as memorable, with shared meals, breakfast at Riverston Tea Rooms, zorb ball fun, a local bakery stop, a visit to the crocodile farm, and even the chance to hold a real life crocodile!

Rockhampton holds a very special place for Master Nguyen, as it is where he grew up and first began his Taekwon-Do journey. Returning to share knowledge with the local Taekwon-Do community was both nostalgic and meaningful.

A sincere thank you to everyone at Doug’s Dojang for the warm welcome, hospitality, transport, generosity and friendship throughout the weekend. We hope the students enjoyed the experience as much as we did.

Weekends like this show what can be achieved when instructors, schools and students work together in harmony for the benefit of Taekwon-Do in Australia. Taekwon-Do is for everyone, and through positive collaboration, mutual respect and shared learning, we continue to grow stronger together.

Impact Taekwon-Do Australia attended the One Legacy ITF Victorian Open Taekwon-Do Championship held in Stawell on 6 December 2025. A team of 16 students travelled west of Melbourne to take part, and it was a meaningful opportunity to share Taekwon-Do with a regional community and to connect with practitioners from different schools in a positive and respectful environment.

We sincerely thank SBN Cher Liang Tay and BSBN Chris Sirre and their teams for the invitation and for hosting a well-organised and welcoming event.

Throughout the day, our students represented themselves and our school with integrity, discipline, and sportsmanship. As a team, Impact Taekwon-Do Australia achieved a total of 16 gold, 14 silver, and 8 bronze medals, and were grateful to finish the event as the overall school champion. These outcomes reflect consistent effort, teamwork, and preparation, rather than any single individual result.

Special acknowledgement is given to BSBN Philo Lee, BSBN Petronilla Mazai, and SBN Larita Bouphasavanh, who finished among the top five competitors of the competition.

The inclusion of joint and mixed team events, as well as innovative team sparring formats, added to the spirit of cooperation and enjoyment across schools.

It was also encouraging to see a broad range of divisions, with events catering to participants from as young as 3 years of age through to veterans in their 80s, reinforcing that Taekwon-Do is truly a lifelong martial art.

We thank our senior students for their support behind the scenes, and we extend our appreciation to parents, judges, competitors, marshalls, umpires, coaches, first aid officers, canteen operators for their patience and resilience throughout the day.

Events like this remind us that Taekwon-Do is ultimately about character, respect, and shared growth. We look forward to continuing to participate in open opportunities that strengthen unity and uphold the true spirit of our art.

Master Michael Nguyen was privileged to attend the 2025 Masters Summit in Auckland, New Zealand, alongside GM Peter Barbour of Perth.

It was an extraordinary experience to participate in discussions centred on culture, professionalism, and building sustainable structures for the next generation of ITF Taekwon-Do across Oceania. The weekend featured an early start and a full day of training and exchange: Master Nguyen presented Balance Beyond Belts, exploring the “invisible” systems that underpin balance in ITF Taekwon-Do. This complemented insightful sessions from Grandmaster Barbour, Grandmaster Rimmer, and Master Bhana on patterns, practical teaching methods, self-defence, conditioning, and effective coaching cues—each reinforcing the power of disciplined repetition and thoughtful application.

Sincere thanks to International Taekwon-Do New Zealand for the invitation and hospitality, and to all grandmasters and masters for their professionalism, camaraderie, and shared purpose.

Special appreciation to organisers Master Raukura, Sabum-nim Waja as well as Master Patterson and Master Joe for their support, during the event. Grateful to everyone who contributed to a respectful, productive weekend—looking forward to the next gathering.

Today marks 14 years since the founding of Impact Taekwon-Do Australia and the opening of our long-standing home at the North Melbourne Community Centre.

Over the past 14 years, Impact Taekwon-Do has grown from a small group of passionate students into a strong, united community built on the tenets of Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit.

This milestone is a moment to reflect with gratitude on the shared journey, friendships, and experiences that have shaped the Impact family.

The past year has brought continued growth, learning, and connection across all levels of the school. Students have trained consistently, supported one another, and represented Impact Taekwon-Do with dedication and humility at tournaments and events throughout the year. Beyond medals and results, the true success lies in the perseverance, teamwork, and spirit shown by everyone involved.

Within our North Melbourne school, new black belts have been promoted, the Fairfield Peewee Class continues to thrive, and the Delahey Branch has taken root and is growing steadily. The Impact community has also welcomed new members from around Australia and overseas, all united by a shared love of Taekwon-Do.

Sincere thanks are extended to all instructors, black belts, students, and families for their ongoing commitment, support, and care for one another. The continued guidance, generosity, and spirit of cooperation within this community make each milestone all the more meaningful.

As Impact Taekwon-Do looks toward 2026, the focus remains clear — to train with sincerity, foster unity and respect, and keep alive the true spirit and teachings of Taekwon-Do.

Thank you to everyone, past and present, who has contributed to this journey. Fourteen years on, Impact Taekwon-Do remains proud to serve the community and share the art that continues to inspire growth, discipline, and connection.

Today, three incredible martial artists showed what true Taekwon-Do spirit looks like.

- Ms Larita Bouphasavanh tested for her 4th Dan.
- Mrs Petronilla Mazai and Mr Paul Mazai tested for their 3rd Dan.

Four hours of relentless testing — every punch, block, kick, and pattern forged through months of sweat and sacrifice. Since the 9th World Cup in Argentina last year, they’ve trained 3–4 days every week with one clear purpose: to grow, to refine, and to honour their art.

Their dedication has been nothing short of inspiring. They’ve become role models for our entire Impact Taekwon-Do family — reminding us all that success isn’t about talent alone, but about consistency, courage, and heart.

And a special milestone — Ms Bouphasavanh becomes the very first 4th Dan produced by Impact Taekwon-Do through years of perseverance, loyalty, and spirit. Well done Sabum-nim.

To all our black belts and instructors who came to assist and support — thank you. Your presence, guidance, and willingness to step up in bigger shoes help shape the next generation. This is what community looks like.

There were sweat, exhaustion, and maybe a few tears… but there was also pride — the kind that only comes from giving your absolute best.

Let’s celebrate these three amazing martial artists for their discipline, humility, and unshakable spirit. You embody what Taekwon-Do is truly about — indomitable spirit, perseverance, and self-control.

Impact Taekwon-Do Australia would like to express our sincere gratitude to Senior Master Jason Lai for the kind invitation to attend the 2025 CHITF National Championships, and to the RMIT Taekwon-Do team for welcoming us and allowing us to assist with the ring and equipment set-up, and throughout the tournament. It was a pleasure to work together in the true spirit of unity and Taekwon-Do.

We were honoured that our school was recognised as the top performing school at the event (12 🥇, 12 🥈 and 3 🥉) , tying for Overall Male Champion, and having several students ranked among the Top 5 competitors of the tournament. These results are a reflection of collective teamwork, dedication, and the shared vision of continuous improvement.

There is still much work ahead, and we remain committed to building a stronger, more connected future for ITF Taekwon-Do in Australia, grounded in respect, discipline, and unity.
