If you’ve come across the term “adrenal fatigue” and googled it, you’ll find as many articles warning of it’s impacts and treatment as you will declaring it doesn’t even exist. The article at the link below is a good summation of both the “for” and “against” camps. At the end of the piece though is a great paragraph under the heading ”Does it matter what we call it?”

Managing your stress, prioritising sleep (amount and quality), getting your nutrition right and exercising are key and there are few people who wouldn’t endorse looking after these issues. I’ve slowly come around to adopting the concept of these four areas (exercise, nutrition, sleep and stress/mindset) as being the “Pillars of Health”.

If you’re not feeling 100%, have a think about which area is flagging and attend to it. Who cares what you call it, it needs fixing!

Who isn't tired these days? We're constantly on call for work, family and friends, and often forget to take time for ourselves. Most of us recognise that chronic stress can take its toll on our health and well-being. But what if you're so fatigued that even getting more sleep doesn't seem to help?

"Doctor, I'm worried that I'm eating too many vegetables, I just don't feel well" - said no one ever....

Come and be a rebel, an individual, an outlier and join the 20% of Australians who eat at least the recommended serves of veges and fruit in a day. (Do yourself a favour and bin that vegetable peeler too, all that awesome fibre is in the skin, you need that stuff!).

It's Never One Thing.....

I like the analogy of your health being like a brick wall. The wall is the result of many bricks, carefully laid while your health is the outcome of the countless decisions you make through the day on how and when to move, what and how much to eat, what mechanisms you use to cope with stress and what importance you're placing on your sleep.
Some time back my reading about the amount of sugar in our western diet had me convinced that sugar alone was the culprit of our obesity epidemic (check out the article below for more on this) but look around and you'll see many people who don't move enough through their regular day, enjoy too much poor quality food (or have it too regularly), wear their level of busyness or stress like a badge of honour and have no exercise regimen. A lot of little changes and improvements add up. What does your wall look like....

We are barking up the wrong tree by blaming sugar for the obesity epidemic, says Professor Jennie Brand-Miller of the University of Sydney's Charles Perkins Centre.

“Discipline Equals Freedom” (Jocko Willink)

A paradoxical concept? Jocko explains “….if you want freedom in life – be that financial freedom, more free time, or even freedom from sickness and poor health – you can only achieve these things through discipline”

Notice he doesn’t mention being “motivated”. You don’t feel psyched, excited or motivated to shower, brush your teeth or pay for car insurance, you do these things to be free of tooth decay, body odour and financial hardship.

The same goes for things like eating well and exercising daily, don’t wait for the day you wake up "ready", start doing it and make it a behaviour you no longer need to think about.

Getting healthy habits entrenched takes effort, if you’d like some help, give us a call at The Lean Maze.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Check out the article below. Did you ever see the animated kids movie (was it Wall E?) set in the future where all the humans are massively obese, floating around on transport devices with robots delivering everything to them so they never have to move, did you see that? It's coming true!
Get out there and move everybody and you can carry your own stuff!
