Open Match Racing Regatta in Geelong
Match racing returned to Victorian waters over the weekend, with Royal Geelong Yacht Club’s Open Match Racing Regatta providing a valuable lead-in to next month’s Australian Youth Match Racing Championship.

Held on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, the two-day regatta brought five crews from across Victoria and interstate to Geelong to compete on the Club’s fleet of RS21 yachts.

After light winds on Day 1, today brought fresh gusty conditions that challenged the sailors’ boat and kite handling skills.

Congratulations to skipper Louis Tilly and crew from Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club - RPAYC, with the winning crew: William Hough, William Troop, and Oliver Ross, who took first place.

The inaugural edition of the New York Yacht Club Women’s International Championship is currently underway from September 12 to 19, 2026, at the New York Yacht Club Harbour Court in Newport, R.I. The international fleet includes Katie Spithill & the majority of her crew from RPAYC, whom RPAYC will be cheering on and watching closely.

That's a wrap on the 2026 Women's Match Racing Championships!

Three days of close, tactical racing came to a conclusion at Fremantle Sailing Club on Sunday, wrapping up the 2026 Australian Women's Match Racing Championship and another strong showcase of women's sailing on the waters off Fremantle.

Six teams from Western Australia and New South Wales contested the national title in Elliott 7s, with three round-robin matches determining the top four teams to advance to Sunday's semi-finals and finals.

In the Petit Final, Holdsworth and Jackson battled through three matches, with Holdsworth taking the series 2-1 to secure third place. Congratulations to RPAYC Women's YD Team: Isabella Holdsworth, Hayley Fisher, Victoria Lin, Annabelle Sampson and Isabella Primrose on their podium finish.

Kay Cottee's Pre-season social night
Another fantastic evening at RPAYC was had on Friday evening by all for the annual pre-season women sailors social event held in the Edinburgh Bar and Lounge.

This year, a special guest and member welcomed participants. The Commodore introduced and welcomed Kay Cottee … the first woman to sail solo, non-stop and unassisted around the world.

This year will also see the inaugural Kay Cottee Open Regatta on October 31. A weekend of racing for all female sailors, with a mix of courses and divisions. Don’t have a yacht? Contact the sailing Office to lease an Elliott 7; conditions apply.
