Performance Horse Sales AU NZ

Performance Horse Sales AU NZ Performance Horse Sales AU NZ - helping you achieve your equestrian dreams! It quickly evolved into a business that set out to prove two things:
1.

PHS started in mid 2023 as a 'bit of a joke' when friends and family said that I should put my horse purchasing and selling skills to 'good use'. That there was the 'right rider' for every horse and the 'right horse' for every rider.
2. That it was possible to sell horses honestly and with full disclosure. We have now proven those two things over and over again! PHS is essentially an 'amateur' hor

se person's family business - we aren't 'professional' riders or trainers - and we would never claim to be. As 'amateur' horse people - we know what it is like trying to find and purchase safe and honest horses for amateurs and for kids. We also know what it is like selling these horses that become part of the family. As a result, we have built an exemplary service model - to help and support our clients, to avoid the pitfalls and mistakes that we made! We are not emotionally detached from our clients, their horses or their goals. This isn't just a business for us. Our clients become part of the family. We wish you all the very best as we continue into 2026 together -
Sally xx

Worth a read! X

There is a conversation that happens in barn aisles, at horse shows, and over dinner at circuit gatherings with remarkable frequency, and it usually sounds something like this: “She’s incredible, but she’s a mare, so it’ll be harder to sell her.” Or: “The x-rays aren’t clean, so we can’t really call her an investment.” Or, most commonly: “I want something that holds its value," Parker Worthington writes.

These are not unreasonable things to think about. Horses are expensive, and the financial dimension of ownership is real. But there is a growing conflation happening in the amateur and junior hunter-jumper market between two goals that are related but fundamentally different: winning in the show ring and optimizing for resale, and the consequences of mixing them up can quietly cost people the very thing they came into this sport to find.

Let’s be precise about what each goal actually demands.

Winning in the show ring requires a horse that is right for the job on the day, right for the rider in front of it, and able to perform consistently at the level being contested. It requires talent, a beautiful jump, a good brain, a trainable nature, but it also requires a suitability match that has very little to do with market appeal. The horse that makes an amateur feel like a million dollars in the equitation ring might be a 16.3 hand chestnut mare with kissing spines on her X-rays and a strong personality that makes novice buyers nervous. She might not sell quickly. She might not sell for more than you paid. But she might win every big equitation class she walks into.

Many of the most competitive horses in the hunter-jumper world are mares. They are frequently more responsive, more attuned to the job, and more talented than their gelding counterparts. They are also, by conventional investor wisdom, harder to move. Sellers know this. Trainers know this. And so there are clients who never seriously consider a mare and therefore who rule out extraordinary animals before they ever try them because they are optimizing for a resale conversation they may never actually need to have.

A major part of PHS is trying to normalise the concept that no horse or human is 'perfect'... but there is a 'right horse for every rider and the right rider for every horse'.

While I have always said that these two mares are wonderful and we love them dearly - they certainly aren't for everyone ... and they certainly aren't 'perfect'.

Every horse has something — a quirk, a management need, a vet history, a confidence limit, a training gap, or a “please don’t do that” button.

Every rider has something too — confidence wobbles, past experiences, skill gaps, budget limits, or things they simply do not want to deal with.

That is not the problem.

Pretending those things don’t exist is the problem.

When advertising a horse, include the warts-and-all truth from the start.

Why have 58 enquiries that turn into zero genuine interest once you finally disclose the truth or send the video?

Why not be honest and get two genuine enquiries from people who actually suit your horse?

Buyers need to be honest too.

If you don’t want a horse with changes on x-rays, don’t enquire about one advertised that way.

If you aren’t ready to buy, don’t enquire like you are.

If you need quiet and confidence-giving, don’t convince yourself you can cope with sharp and complicated because the horse is pretty.

Sellers say buyers are time wasting.

Buyers say sellers are time wasting.

Often, both are right.

So let's cut the crap.

Advertise honestly.

Enquire honestly.

Say what the horse is.

Say what you can actually ride, manage and cope with.

Because the goal is not the most enquiries.

It is the right enquiry.

The right horse.

The right rider.

The right long-term match.

Brazen MossMoose), is a seasoned, straightforward allrounder who has seen plenty of the world. He is happy out and about, well exposed to farm life and busy environments, and is a horse you can take to a rally, a high level competition or a trail and simply get on with your day.

Moose's education and mileage speak for themselves. He has extensive 95 cm eventing miles with juniors, a 1* start with a previous rider, and showjumped to 1.05 m. On the flat he is established, schooling lateral work and counter canter, and he ia happily ridden in a snaffle.

Moose will suit a capable junior or amateur wanting a versatile partner for low level eventing, interschools or club days, and a bit of everything at home. He is a forward ride who adapts to his rider and will come back for someone greener under guidance.

For the rider who values experience, a kind nature and genuine versatility, Moose is well worth a look.
