🏏 T20 SLAM
Old Dogs vs Young Guns

Clayton Road Oval was the place to be on Friday night for the seventh annual T20 Slam - Old Dogs vs Young Guns. Recruiting efforts spread far and wide and birthdates scrutinised to compile the two teams.

The drafting gates for the Old Dogs was ruthless this year seeing Henry Blechynden at the ripe old age of 25 being deemed an Old Dog. Meanwhile, a more legitimate Old Dog, David Head, was left to cook the snags.

The Old Dogs won the toss and elected to bat sending Dylan Brooks and Byron Blevin in to bat. Brooks has had an impressive season to date and has finished as the second highest run scorer in the A Grade. So the Young Guns were well and truly up and about when Mitch Ackland, A Grades leading wicket taker, sent a delivery down to Brooks which was well caught by Michael Cowcher. Wagin superstar Kavindu Chandrasena then joined Blevin at the crease. The pair put on a rapid fire 54 run partnership belting boundaries and running quick singles - Blevin’s singles quicker than a kelpie stealing a chop off the barbie. Blevin then came unstuck at the end of the eighth over when he misread a Dylan Kellow delivery which cllipped the bails sending Blevin back to the stands having made 47 of 26 deliveries. Two overs later Lucas Hull inspired by some words of encouragement from the boundary, clean bowled Ben McMillan which saw the Old Dogs sitting at 3/92 at the end of the tenth.

The Young Guns then headed out full of youth and enthusiasm to begin their run chase. Riley Ford and Jamo Davidson opened the batting. Bailey Parsons claimed a wicket early when Davidson was stumped. Two overs later Parsons got his second wicket for the evening when Brock Pockran was caught by Rhett Ballard. Ford was then sent back to the stands on 26 when the other Parsons, Lewis, sent a delivery down which was caught by Scott Langford. Parsons, Lewis not Bailey, then got another wicket in the tenth over when Cameron Graham stuck his pad out where he probably should have put the bat and was deemed a plumb lbw. The Young Guns were 4/63 at their first break with a bit of work on their hands.

Chandrasena and Joe Dowling came out firing for the Old Dogs remaining ten overs. Dowling spanked a six for the second the delivery and the got a four in the next over which upset the bowler, young Hull, who then sent down a beautiful delivery which was caught by Cowcher. Cody Heywood came into bowl the next over and sent Blake Egerton-Warburton away with a duck when Kellow took a great catch. The Old Dogs were now 5/111. Chandrasena was batting beautifully but was hoping that someone might like to stay at the crease with him for a bit longer. Rhett Ballard came and went when he was clean bowled by the boy Hull who finished with three wickets. The innings of Chandrasena was then over midway through the 18th when a Pockran delivery was caught by Mitchell Sermon. The big Sri Lankan, Chandrasena was out having made 66 runs off 44 deliveries. The Old Dogs were now 7/151. The next three wickets fell cheaply with Langford being caught on 3 by Ackland off Darcy Andrews’ bowling. Pockran then ran out Bailey Parsons in spectacular fashion and the next ball saw him clean bowl Blechynden. The Old Dogs finished with 155.

The Young Guns had a bit of a job on their hands needing 93 runs off 60 deliveries. Cowcher and Andrews steadied the ship but the man who did the damage with the bat, Chandrasena, then created havoc in the field. He clean bowled Cowcher on 22 and then helped run out Andrews on 29. Sermon put in a valiant effort making 19 off 11 before Blechynden bowled him. He was the only Young Gun with a strike rate over 100. Blechynden then quickly found the wickets of Heywood. Hull and Ackland were the last two standing but they ran out of overs and finished with 8/138 handing the Old Dogs a 17 run victory.

This now brings the overall tally to four Old Dogs wins to three for the Young Guns.

OLD DOGS
Kavindu Chandrasena 66
Byron Blevin 47

Henry Blechynden 2/11 (2)
Lewis Parsons 2/13 (3)
Bailey Parsons 2/17 (3)

YOUNG GUNS
Darcy Andrews 29
Riley Ford 26

Lucas Hull 3/22 (4)
Brock Pockran 2/5 (1.3)

The most magnificent run with the flight of the ball catch - Darcy Andrews. Unfortunately it was a no ball.

Huge thanks go to Umpires Dwight Kellow and Arron Quartermaine for officiating the great game.

Cheers to all who came and supported and thanks to all the volunteers and players who helped put the event on.

UGSCA E E Section Grand Final Vs Busselton Margaret River

FAVOURITES BUSSELTON MARGARET RIVER DEMOLISHED BY ALL TIME BOWLING PERFORMANCE

This morning saw us head up to Princess Park in Balga again where we lost the toss to a confident BMRC who elected to bat first

Opening Duo extraordinare Darcy Andrews And David Head again got the bowling innings off to a flyer taking early wickets to have them 4/18 in the 12th including the big wicket of the in form Piggot from Andrews

Lewis Parsons ( The better one not from Wandering ) came on first change and removed the oppositions captain to leave them reeling at 5-25. A little partnership saw them reach 66 before spinner Stewart Wright ( showing signs of cooper Connolly although remains to be seen if he can be the prince of Perth on the circuit tonight ) spun a web quickly claiming 3 wickets albeit with a few Dubious bump ball calls (According to the batsmen) going our way to have them 8-74. Skipper Warburton made the call to replace Williams A grade opening bowler Riley Ford who couldn't quite get a breakthrough to bring back strike bowler Darcy Andrews (Top of the wicket tally in our grade) who quickly claimed the last 2 wickets to wrap the the innings up for 81. Special mention to Henry Blechynden for 3 impressive catches.

Opening batters Ballard and Pockran went out to bat with good confidence.
Pockran after channeling his inner Travis Head at the Perth test and telling us book the lucky s**g at 4pm for celebration beers proceeded to hit 3 massive sixes to finish 45 not out and Ballard flayed a multitude of runs through Backward point as usual to finish 29 not out as we chased the total of 81 for the loss of no wickets in 15 overs.

UGSCA E Section Semi Final Thursday Vs Wyalkatchem

BOWLERS UNION SPARKS STUNNING LATE COLLAPSE TO STUN WYLAKATCHEM AND ADVANCE TO GRAND FINAL

Thursday morning saw the lads travel up to Princess Park in Balga to Vs Top of the table in the opposite pool in Wylakatchem. The opposition had a few players who had magnificent tournament included one bloke who had scored 2 100s so we new it was going to be a fierce contest.

Skipper Warburton Won the toss and Elected to bat on a warm morning.
Openers Ballard and Pockran got off to a cautious start before Pockran was dismissed cheaply. Ballard and Warburton put together a brisk partnership totakr the score to 64 before Warburton fell for 24. Ballard and Blechynden steadied the ship with a. Partnership of 42 before Ballard fell stumped for 39 (89) the stodgiest innings of his long career. The score had reached 3-106 what looked a good base for a 200+ score.

Wylakatchem however continued to bowl accurately and restrict the flow of runs which lead to regular wickets before Stewart Wright helped them along by BBQ his batting Mate Dane Angwin in a run out. Which according to his Pingelly teammates is a regular skill of Stews..

We managed to scrape together 177 which looked a competitive score on a pretty large oval with boundaries hard to come by.

Come time to start our bowling innings and the sea breeze had come in and cooled the afternoon down Beatifully for fielding.

Opening bowler Andrews brought the heat with him however and rattled Wyalkatchem early with 3 early wickets to have them 3-10. A good partnership brewed for Wylakatchem from here there with their start batter getting into his groove and dispatching some poor bowling to the square leg boundary regularly. The 4th wicket partnership was looking to difficult to break before A STUNNING diving catch from Captain Warburton secured the 4th wicket from the bowling of Lewis Parsons ( Boddington ) to reduce Wylakatchem to 4-99 and bring us back into the game. Wyalkatchem.howecer had other plans putting together another good partnership to advance the score to 4-150 needing just 28 runs with 6 wickets in hand.

The skipper turned to his crafty Veteran Opening bowler David Head hoping to spark something special and what happened next was nothing short of extraordinary. Head immediately claimed the 5th wicket with a signature LBW and then the 6th a caught and bowled of a full toss.

as form bowler Darcy Andrews came on from the other end and also struck immediately with 2 wickets a clean bowled and a brilliant catch from Henry Blechynden at backward square leg to secure his 1st 5W Haul at country week and reduce them to 8-160 still requiring 18 runs. Head had bowled his 10 overs now and a change was needed, Enter Brock Pockran who cool as a cucumber proceed to bowl a 2 Wicket Maiden to seal the match with a fantastic catch from Stewart at backward point sealing the win by 17 runs.

The lads now head back to princess Park to match up against the undefeated Busselton Margaret River in the Big Dance today.

Semi final v Albany.

Our run comes to an end.

Sadly, the A grades sides winning run has come to an end. Albany won the toss and elected to bat on a wicket that we weren’t too sure what to expect. The end result was a decent batting deck that occasionally went up, but more often down.
A brilliant run out from Lewi Parsons got the boys up and about early, with him sadly leaving the field after doing a hammy shortly after.
Mitch left his radar at the broken hill last night as he threw a few around early. He responded with a wicket and at 2/ 24 we felt we were ready to roll through another good side. This didn’t happen. For the first time of the week the boys weren’t sharp in the field, and the lines and lengths from the bowlers wavered. Albany were all over us as the whacked their way to 2/153 off 28 overs. What happened next was unreal, we took 7/47 to roll them for 199. Big Inzy stood up with the ball, taking 4/8 off 4.3 overs, as well as two more brilliant run outs.
So 4 an over was required on a deck offering the bowlers enough. Jacob Schorer started proceedings with one of the shots of the week through backward point for 4. PQ kicked one in the second over, which bought Ben Sherry to the crease. Sherry, who has been our best bat all week, dug in and put on a partnership of 74 with Schorer. Jacob departed for a classy 38. KB was sent out to send a few into the trees to lift the run rate. He didn’t get the memo as he blocked his way to load up his teammates with more pressure. Big inzy took up the task sending a few a long way, and as the run rate needed reached 7 an over the job was in front of us. When Shez was dismissed for 63, things were tight. The boys fought and fought, and were eventually bowled out on the 5th last ball of the innings, 9 runs short.

Albany 10/199
A Quartermaine 4/8 off 4.3
M Ackland 1/29 off 5.

UGSCA 10/191
B Sherry 63
J Schorer 38
A Quartermaine 37
K Joyce 17

The fellas are genuinely a bit down as we speak, with the thrill of playing at the waca being taken away from us so late.

The A grade side would like to thank Bundy for all his work as team manager this year, Ben Mac for driving the team bus all week, and Bailey Parsons for doing a great job as captain for the week. Also thanks to the selectors for their work, and to all the players that have given up their week to represent this great association.

All the best to the few wandering boys that had to head home this Arvo to fight fires. Look after yourselves.
Tomorrow we have a t20 v peel to decide 3rd and 4th.
Thanks to all followers for the likes and best wishes over the week. We did our best.
Signing off for A grade country week 25/26, PQ.

UGSCA E Section Game 3 Wednesday VS South Midlands

ALL ROUND PERFORMANCE SEALS FINALS

Today saw the lads travel back to brittania needing to win to make the semi finals.

We lost the toss and we're asked to bowl first which made the bowlers union very happy with the afternoons forecast to reach 40.

Opening partnership Head and Andrews again bowled extremely well with the new pill and got an early wicket at 1-5 before a good parthnership from South Midlands lead them to 49 before Country Week Debutant Lewis Parsons ( Boddington ) claimed his first wicket to get them 2 down in a brilliant spell of 3/19 off 8 overs. South Midlands stuttered to 6/77 with Parsons being well supported at the other end by Lucas Hull who chipped in with a wicket and Fellow Country Week Debutant Dane Angwin also bowled economically. A few late partnerships and some poor slips fielding from Butterfingers Skipper Warburton saw South Midlands make there way to 131.

South Midlands took a unique approach to there bowling innings and opened the bowling with spin from both ends. openers Rhett Ballard and Brock Pockran both fell cheaply and when Riley Ford also went for just 2 we were in a spot of bother at 3/32. Henry Blechynden promoted up the order to 3 along with skipper Warburton steadied the innings well with a partnership that took the score to 59 before Blechynden fell for a well compilled 25. Skipper Warburton and Angwin then upped the ante with a flurry of boundaries against a continuous rotation of spinners as South Midlands never bowled a quick all day. Warburton fell for a run a ball 42 not quite finishing the job as the score reached 5/89. This Brought Pingellys All rounder Stewart Wright to the crease to Partner Angwin who batted Beatifully in partnership to reach the target of 132 with the loss of No further Wickets. Angwin Finished not out 24 And Wright 20 not out.

The E sections lads now play Wyalkatchem tomorrow at Princess East in Kings Park in a semi final for an opportunity to play in Fridays Finals.

UGSCA E section Game 2 Monday VS Esperance

ALL ROUNDER DARCY ANDREWS STARS IN BIG WIN

On Monday the lads travelled out to Gwynne Park in Armadale and skipper Warburton learnt quickly from yesterday's mistakes and won the toss and batted. And bat they did, openers Rhett Ballard and Brock Pockran got the team off to a flyer registering 97 before Ballard fell for a run a ball 50. Pockrans wicked followed shortly after for a solid 43 steady partnerships throughout the innings highlighted by Kieran Langridges 43 got the team to 7/222 off 42 overs and was looking a very decent score. ENTER andrews at 9 who hit 3 massive sixes through the trees into the carpark along with 3 boundaries to finish 46 not out of just 21 deliveries. This brutal lifted the total to an incredible 9/295 at the end of 50 overs.

Esperance got off to a cautious start reaching 22 before opener Head found the edge that then sparked a collapse of 6 wickets for just 4 runs as Andrews took 2 wickets and Head treated the opposition off stump with absolute disrespect claiming 2 clean bowleds.

Andrews who had already done it with the bat and ball them claimed a miraculous run out of his own bowling as well to really bump up his champion player points.

Some late hitting from Esperance was quickly Qwelled by Future left arm off spinning star Tyson Ford who was well supported in the field by everyone except his own brother and ended with 2 fantastic wickets to finish the match off. Esperance ending up 109 all out
