Narooma Sporting and Services Club 2026 Blue Water Fours Carnival

The long weekend saw the influx of top bowlers eager to give their best shot in the prestigious Blue Water Fours Tournament sponsored by the Narooma Sporting and Services Club. Players came from as far afield as Sydney, Junee, Canberra, and Melbourne to name a few. A field of 28 teams competed and the rinks were filled with close contests where one missed shot could make or break your weekend. The closeness of many of the matches and the ability of some of the bowlers in the Tournament ensured that the spectators enjoyed every moment. There were still 11 teams in contention for the money on Monday morning and in the last round the 3 top teams lost their games and made the finish even more interesting as skips did their sums to see what they had to do to remain in the top spots.

We were blessed with wonderful weather which always helps the running of a Tournament. The winners were Craig Downes, Gonzola Astudillo, Jason Powell and Brett Hughes (skip) from Hillsdale Club, who showed great form throughout the Tournament to end up with 6 wins and a draw and a margin of 42 shots. Second place with 6 wins and a margin of 89 shots went to John Breust, Buzz Breust, Adam Moffitt and Jay Breust (skip) from Narooma, Dalmeny, Malua Bay and Cabramatta. Third place with 6 wins and a 70 shot margin went to Wes Kylie, Ethan Sainsbury, Corey Hazel and Craig Shaw (skip) from Junee. In fourth place, from Narooma Bowls Club, with 6 wins and a 50 shot margin were Allan Chisholm, Peter Dillon, Rob Coulson and Greg Ryan (skip). Fifth place went to the Moruya team of Geoff Lee, Stewie Brook, Joel Hilliard and Jeff Rankin (skip) with 6 wins and a draw and a 30 shot margin. Well done to all the teams who helped make the tournament so competitive, we look forward to seeing you back next year.

A tournament like the Blue Water Fours could not be held without the generous sponsorship of the Narooma Sporting and Services Club and their sponsorship is much appreciated. Thank you to Russell Smith and his great computer program that calculated the progress of the teams effortlessly and to Merrie and Sue who made sure all results were recorded correctly. Thanks to the umpires, Clare Cork, Rodney Turner, Peter Tinson and Peter Jones, for their diligent service and thanks again to the Ladies and gents who so ably assisted with the BBQ, afternoon food and raffle sales. Thanks to all the volunteers who prepared and cooked and served the succulent Rapley's Meat's steaks and hamburgers. Breakfasts were cooked to perfection so thank you to all the people who got up early to make sure the breakfasts satisfied the hungry competitors. Thank you to Brendan and the office and bar staff who catered for all the needs of the bowlers. In particular a big thank you to Ross and his able assistants for producing the greens in such great order.

Narooma V Junee Oar

This year we had an inter town competition to celebrate the great camaraderie between us. This year the Oar was won by Narooma thanks to John Breust being a member of the team that came 2nd in the Blue Water Fours.
