If Moruya Bowlo feels a little quieter than usual this weekend, there’s a good reason… the boys have packed up the bowls and headed to Temora. 😂

Good luck to all our Moruya crew competing in the Temora tournament. Fly the flag, have a cracking weekend and try not to cause too much trouble while you’re away!

Moruya might be quiet… but Temora certainly won’t be. 😎

MORUYA INTO THE STATE SEMI-FINALS 💙

Saturday was a huge day for Moruya at the 2025/26 BCiB Grade 4 Open Pennant State Finals, with two strong performances securing a place in this morning’s State Semi-Final.

The day began with the final sectional round against Gunnedah, who had been undefeated through the opening two rounds.

Moruya produced an outstanding team performance to win 71–38 overall.

Stuart Brook, Rolly Halligan, Joel Hilliard and Shane Quinlivan won 30–11.

Tony Giannasca, Gail Page, Pete Davies and Jeff Rankin won 25–11.

Peter Jeffs, Robbie Strahan, Matthew Dart and Kevin Nutter finished level at 16–16.

That result sent Moruya through to the quarter-finals, where Comboyne stood between the team and a place in the final four.

Moruya carried the momentum into the afternoon and delivered again, winning all three rinks to take the quarter-final 75–45 overall.

Stuart Brook, Rolly Halligan, Joel Hilliard and Shane Quinlivan won 23–8.

Tony Giannasca, Gail Page, Pete Davies and Jeff Rankin won 30–26.

Peter Jeffs, Robert Strahan, Matthew Dart and Kevin Nutter won 22–11.

Two matches on Saturday. Two overall wins. And now Moruya is through to the State Semi-Finals.

A big thank you as well to all of our supporters who travelled yesterday to get behind the team. Having that Moruya support on the sidelines means a lot.

This morning brings a rematch with Gunnedah, this time with a place in the Grade 4 State Final on the line.

A BIG DAY 1 FIGHTBACK FOR MORUYA

Day 1 of the 2025/26 BCiB Grade 4 Open Pennant State Finals at Bomaderry gave Moruya plenty to fight for, and the team responded.

The opening round against Water Board didn’t go Moruya’s way, with Water Board taking the overall result 60–45.

There was an important rink win for Stuart Brook, Geoff Lee, Joel Hilliard and Shane Quinlivan, who finished strongly to record a 25–12 victory.

On the other rinks, Tony Giannasca, Gail Page, Pete Davies and Jeff Rankin went down 28–13, while Peter Jeffs, Robbie Strahan, Matthew Dart and Kevin Nutter were defeated 20–7.

That left Moruya with one point from the opening round and needing a response against Dapto Citizens in the afternoon.

And they delivered.

Moruya turned the day around with a 68–47 overall win in Round 2.

Peter Jeffs, Robbie Strahan, Matthew Dart and Kevin Nutter produced a dominant 32–10 win, while Tony Giannasca, Gail Page, Pete Davies and Jeff Rankin battled out a 17–17 draw.

The third rink could hardly have been closer, with Stuart Brook, Geoff Lee, Joel Hilliard and Shane Quinlivan going down by just one shot, 20–19.

That afternoon performance earned Moruya 8.5 points, taking the side to 9.5 points after two rounds and second place in Section 3, just half a point ahead of Water Board.

Now the focus turns to tomorrow morning.

Moruya faces section leader Gunnedah in the final sectional round.

🏆 STATE CHAMPIONS! 🏆

What an incredible achievement for Moruya Bowls Club, with Jeff Rankin and Shane Quinlivan crowned the 2025–26 NSW Men’s Senior Pairs State Champions after a superb campaign in Dubbo.

The pair opened the championships in dominant fashion, defeating:
🏅 Mark Langfield & John Roach (Austral) 23–8
🏅 Glenn Aitken & Brian Harriott (Towradgi Park) 27–13

Their only setback came against Michael Beesley & Warren Shipley (Soldiers Point), but they responded when it mattered most, progressing through the finals before claiming the NSW State Championship title.

To represent Moruya on the state stage is an outstanding achievement. To come home as NSW State Champions is something truly special.

What a great afternoon celebrating our 2026 Pennant teams and recognising the players who proudly represented Moruya Bowls Club throughout the season.

From our Ladies Division 4 side through to Open Gender Grades 7, 5 and 4, it was a chance to come together, reflect on the season that was and acknowledge the commitment, teamwork and club spirit shown across all grades.

A special moment of the day was the official raising of the Grade 4 Pennant following their outstanding achievement in becoming Region Grade 4 Pennant Champions and progressing through to the NSW State Playoffs. A milestone achievement for the team and one the entire club can be proud of.

Thank you to everyone who attended, helped organise the day, and continues to support bowls at Moruya. Here’s to celebrating the successes of the season and building towards an even bigger 2027. 💙🤍

A big thank you to Gail Page for umpiring across the two days, along with all of our volunteers, the management team, match committee and everyone behind the scenes who helped bring the Moruya Bowling Club’s Men’s Pairs together.

And to all bowlers who travelled from near and far to support the weekend — thank you. We loved having you at the club.
