2012 being our inaugural year and the Year of the Water Dragon in Chinese Astrology, we have adopted the colours black, gold and sapphire in his honour. We also believe his philosophy will guide our progress:
‘He favors optimum growth and expansion, and is able to set aside his ego for the greater good…. He knows how to act wisely and what is essential for his progress.’
Two of our main objects are to
* promote and advance paddling as a fun and healthy activity for the whole community and juniors in particular
* promote cross-cultural understanding in the local area through the sport of Dragon Boat Racing

A huge thanks to all those who helped me set up this club 10 years ago, including the executive of the Endeavour Rowing Club, friends from Newcastle Outrigger Canoe Club, Newcastle Dragonhunters, ex-teaching colleagues, Melanie Cantwell from Dragonboats NSW, and community members who decided to give the sport a go, then helped form our first Board, established processes and procedures, raised money to buy our own boats and equipment, on and on. Maitland has a dragonboat club because of you!
