Krav Maga Australia

Krav Maga Australia Melbourne's official Krav Maga and Self-Defence Club. Practical, realistic, simple street-based techniques suitable for all ages and all fitness levels.

Supportive, safe, trauma informed, family-friendly space. Krav Maga is an effective, realistic, street-based self-defense system. Krav Maga aims for students to reach a basic core level of competency, in as short a period of time as possible. For us at Krav Maga Australia this means teaching simple, effective techniques and concepts that anyone can use in a self-defense situation. This includes taking into account all the physical, emotional and psychological impacts of being in such a situation. At Krav Maga Australia, we believe that everyone should have the basic skills to protect themselves and their loved ones, with the option to become highly skilled with further training. Our classes are suitable for persons of all ages (starting from age 3), all experience levels (or lack thereof) and all fitness levels.

R U OK? Day was this week, but the question doesn't come with a use-by date.

At Krav Maga Australia, we talk a lot about intuition. Learning to notice when something feels off, in a situation or in a person. That same skill applies to checking in on the people around you.

R U OK?'s own research (Verian, 2025 Impact Tracker) found a third of Australians say they've been asking others more often over the past year, and nine in ten people who are asked say it made them feel grateful, supported and cared for.

So if someone's been on your mind, trust that instinct. It's information, not overreaction. Ask. If the answer doesn't sit right, ask again.

A conversation could change a life.

Our KMA family is here for you ❤️

Two hours before anyone walked in.

Empty chairs. A workbook and pen. A room about to hold things some of these women had never said out loud.

By 2pm, it was full. Full of women unlearning what they’d been taught about danger, about calm, about their own gut instinct.

Their stories stay in that room. What they learned, they get to carry everywhere else.

Thank you to all the incredible women who joined Shellé for our Women’s Violence Prevention and Personal Safety Workshop this past Saturday. 💕

The next 2026 date is still TBC, spaces are limited, comment below and we’ll DM you the details.

Big news from the KMA family.

Dave and Shellé Friedman have completed their SAFE International Instructor Accreditation — and we couldn't be more proud.

At Krav Maga Australia, we've always believed that real personal safety goes far beyond physical technique. It's science-backed, evidence-based, and built around a holistic model that gives our students every tool they need:

Avoidance. Prevention. Effective Escape.

This accreditation is another step in our commitment to teaching personal safety the right way — grounded in research, delivered with integrity, and focused on one goal: helping you go home safe.

Congratulations Dave and Shellé. 🙌

Last night our Chief Instructor, Dave did a knife defence seminar under coach Jerry Wetzel founder of the world renowned Red Zone Threat Management.

This was a great opportunity to train and learn from an expert in the field.

Constant learning, constant growth, always looking to learn more and being on the look out for the best education that we can pass onto our students is a part of ethos. Our thirst for knowledge, our desire to constantly learn, matches what we ask of our students.

We will never stop learning so that we can never stop teaching.

“Effectiveness Over Technique” — one of our guiding principles at KMA.

Krav Maga isn’t a martial art. No forms, no katas, no choreographed routines for judges. We train realistic, street-based self-defence.

Forget intricate details — if it works, we don’t care how it looks.

We focus only on what impacts the effectiveness of the technique and your ability to create the time or distance needed to escape.

In a street-based physical conflict, that’s the only objective: make an effective escape and go home safe.
