Cross Roads Indoor Cush Bowls Season Wrap-Up
The Cross Roads Indoor Cush Bowls season has come to an end, with the Grand Final played on Friday, 31st July, followed by the season wind-up and presentations at the Royal Hotel, Moonta, on Friday, 7th August.
The Grand Final between Cousin Jacks and Old Bags provided plenty of family connections, with grandparents, grandchildren and siblings playing against each other.
Old Bags got off to a flying start, with Imogen Phillips bowling extremely well, while middle player Julie Davey was consistent throughout the game. Captain Bede Mackereth played a superb captain's game, showing how much he has matured over recent seasons.
Cousin Jacks, who had finished top of the table, struggled to get going and were playing catch-up from the fourth end. Brian Sainty settled after a nervous start, while first-year player Rory Phillips played brilliantly in his first final. Captain John Osborn tried everything to bring his team back into the game, but Old Bags proved too strong, winning 17–8.
Congratulations to Old Bags, who were presented with the Grand Final shield at the wind-up.
President Kaylene Osborn thanked everyone for their support throughout the season and acknowledged the committee and office bearers for their efforts. Special thanks were given to Treasurer Arthur Langley, who is stepping down after many years in the position. Arthur was thanked for his professionalism, diligence and humour.
Thanks also went to Bev Shields for providing the games at the wind-up and to Phillip Shields for umpiring the Grand Final.
Attendance at the wind-up was excellent, with everyone enjoying a meal, games and presentations.
Another season, albeit a shorter one, has now finished. The club looks forward to seeing everyone again at the AGM next February, with the date to be published in the Country Times early next year.
Congratulations once again to our 2026 premiers, Old Bags, and thank you to everyone who contributed to another enjoyable season of Cross Roads Indoor Cush Bowls.

Leading by four going into the final end Cousin Jacks looked like a grand final spot was secured. That was before the one arm bandit captain of the Rubies Christine put down her final bowl to tie things up. Going into overtime the Cousin Jacks got there in the end winning 2 ends to 1.
Grand final this Friday sees Grandparents against grandkids. Who will win, last seasons runners up “Old Bags” or ladder leaders for the majority of the season “Cousin Jacks”

Results for 5th June

Relatively close games again Friday night with a lot of changes throughout the games.

It was payback time for Old Bags against Cousin Jacks after Cousin Jacks beat them convincingly in the first round. It was a close game but Old Bags winning 12-8.

This was another close game between the sisters and once again the tables were turned from the first round with Rubies getting the upper hand winning 14-9.

Cornish Cobblers and Copper Girls had a very entertaining and fun game with laughs galore. Cornish Cobblers held their nerve to run over the top of Copper Girls to win 14-6.

Mascots and Cobalts was a game of two halves. Cobalts got off to a blinder forging ahead but Mascots fought back to overtake Cobalts in the last few ends to come out winners 13-12.

Results for 22nd May

It was the last game of the first round and once again all games were close.
Top team Cousin Jacks had their first loss for the season going down to Rubies who are improving every week . Final score 14-11.

Old Bags were never in the game against Copper Girls until they kicked into gear with five ends to go to narrowly win 16-15.

Roulettes had a hard game against Mascots who have won their last two games and are hitting their straps at the right time. It came down to the last bowl which Mascots captain put in a screamer to take the game away from Roulettes to win by one. 10-9.

Cobalts and Cornish Cobblers game was also tight with Cornish Cobblers taking the ascendancy early but Cobalts worked their way back into the game to take the chocolates winning by two. 11-9.

Results for 15th May

All games were close Friday night and all teams had opportunities to win.

Cousin Jacks who so far have not lost a game got quite a scare when Roulettes were winning for most of the game but with Cousin Jacks getting a five on one end made all the difference but Roulettes fought back for the game to be a draw 12 all.

Mascots with two fill in players and their substitute captain being a first bowler looked like they were in for a hiding from Cornish Cobblers but after a fight back half way through the game it came down to the last end where Cornish Cobblers were holding three and could've won the game but Mascots captain put down an excellent last bowl to sneek in by kitty winning by two. Final score 15-13.

The game between Rubies and Old Bags was a grudge match between the two finalists from last year. This too was an excellent skilled and close game with Rubies taking home the chocolates by 1. Final score 9-8.

Copper Girls jumped out of the blocks with a healthy lead and it looked like Cobalts were in for one of those nights , however to their credit they fought their way back into the game to only lose by 1. Final score 14-13.

All games were close Friday night and all teams had a chance to take the points.

Cousin Jacks are still on a role and haven't lost a game but was pushed all the way by Copper Girls with their new captain. They played admirably to only lose by 2. Final score 12-10.

It was mother (Tamika Mackereth) Cornish Cobblers against son (Bede Mackereth) Old Bags in a topsy turvy but very entertaining game and it came down to the last end. With the last end having to be measured which went Cornish Cobblers way by 2 which made it a draw 12 each.

Roulettes started off slowly and just could not find their "mojo" but all Cobalts players were playing excellent bowls coming away with the win 13-9.

Mascots had their first win of the season against Rubies so they might've found their "mojo"! They had a great win 12-9.

Results for 24th April

All games played on Friday night were of a high standard and all games were close.

Old Bags and Cobalts had a topsy turvy game and it could've gone either way until Old Bags pulled away near the end to win by 5. Final score 16-11.

On the other mat between Copper Girls and Rubies this too could've gone either way with Rubies winning the last end and also winning by 5. Final score 16-11.

Mascots pulled away early to lead Cousin Jacks but Cousin Jacks clawed their way back to win by two. 14-12. Cousin Jacks are now the only team to have won all their games but their is still a long way to go in the season so watch this space!

Roulettes played Cornish Cobblers in another close and interesting game. Cornish Cobblers up to this stage were the other team not to have lost and this too went down to the last end. The Roulettes team had a great last end to take the points winning by 4. 14-10.

Just a reminder that next Friday 1st May is supper night.

Round 2

We had a minute silence between games as we have lost two members since our last season.

Michelle Sletten played for ten years and was a committee member for many years a well liked and respected member of our club.

Geoffrey Zilm played for two years and was well liked by everyone.

Results for 17th April

Cornish Cobblers had a good win against Copper Girls which was played in high spirits. Final scores 22-10.

Cobalts and Mascots game could've gone either way as it was close throughout however, Cobalts pulled away at the end to win 15-9.

The closest game of the night was between the two sisters and it came down to the last end with Roulettes winning the last end by two to put them one ahead. A great game! 14-13.

Cousin Jacks obliterated the young Old Bags team who were without their senior player who they missed. Cousin Jacks even getting a full house of six on one end. Final scores 25 -8
