Even the docile parachutes can bite. Give yourself the most options for your flight plan by actually having a plan! Plenty of opportunities for an alternative ending to this landing.

Anyone have an idea of options that the pilot could have made here?

This can still happen to the best most trained pilots in the world and heinsight is always a bitch but as an example for education on developing a thought process and awareness this is a very good teaching video.

Canopy progression, done properly. 🪂

Most of us learned canopy flight the messy way. A bit of advice here, a downsize there, a lot of "felt fine, I think."

Canopy School is the alternative. One clear ladder, SPARK to PHOENIX. Eight levels, four stages each, five jumps a stage, plus a knowledge test every level. You fly the same technique until it's genuinely yours, then you climb.

Every jump is GPS tracked and logged against the course, so your progression is evidence, not memory. And you only advance when you've shown the skill. Never pushed beyond your capability. The ladder is as good at saying "not yet" as it is "next."
