Day 13 - 18/12/25 Taiwan Basketball Tour 2025

Travelling home today.
Breakfast packs for everyone arranged from hotel.
Departing the hotel for airport, 45min drive in a coach.

A walk to our checkin counter another 15mins moving 45 people as a group with luggage and people feeling tired or sick it was a struggle.

Everyone checked in, immigration and bag screening done, we made it over to departure lounges we had an hour and half to kill before boarding. Deb and I helped the boys with filling their arrival forms.

This group of boys did themselves proud with very big days of training and game days, walking a lot, climbing lots of stairs and navigating the MRT and buses.
Our tour ended with
12 games in 10 days.
6 Wins, 1 Draw and 5 Losses.
The WBW boys should be proud of their efforts with the little preparation as a team we had. They came together and bonded in a short time.

Our team was made up of boys from:-
Maryborough
Hervey Bay
Gympie
Brisbane
Rockhampton
Torres Strait Islands.
A mixture of talented young men.

Thank you to Brian Kerle Basketball and his staff for once again inviting us to come along to play basketball in Taiwan.
Thank you to Aunties Helen, Linda and Cindy for all the planning and preparation efforts that go into making this tour possible.

Thank you to Taylor Earnshaw for her professional photoghraphy and Debra Braund for videoing the games.

Thank you to our sponsors who helped give these young basketballers the opportunity to play internationally.

Day 12 -17/12/25
Taiwan Tour 2025,
Last day on tour.
What an incredible ride it's been.
A few of the boys are paying the price for our non-stop action, physical and fast games, late nights, and new foods and warm and cold weather have brought on some sickness amongst us.

Today was optional activities on offer, self explore (in groups) or just relax or sleep in.

A few of us headed to the Taipei Zoo. Pandas, flamingoes and Pangolins were on top of the list for sitings.

We all wandered around the zoo at our own pace.
Taipei Zoo covers about 165 hectares (408 acres), making it one of Asia's largest zoos, with a large portion developed for public exhibits, focusing on conservation and education.

Some of the animals were hiding or not very active.
Unfortunatley only got a photo of the pangolin model.

Some of us ventured up on the Maokong Cable Car which travels 4kms in length and 300m above the ground.
Great views of this very large city and the 101 building that we had visited a couple of days ago.

We headed back to the hotel. Some of the boys headed out to dinner to their favourite American Bbq place.

While some of us found more local, traditional cuisine.

Early night tonight as we had to be up by 5am to leave by 6am for the airport.

Day 11 - 16/12/25

Early start today with a long charter bus ride to Yilan to visit the National Centre for Traditional Arts.

Our drive took us past a bot of a rural area with lots of rice paddies.

This venue is preserving the arts and craftsmanship of Taiwan. The religious, cultural and various first nations people of Taiwan.

After a couple of hours we went to the โ€œ007 Experienceโ€ where we taught to pick padlocks, self defence and target shooting. The boys had fun passing the tests to become secret agents.

We then had a 90min ride on the charter bus to our BK team dinner.
We had a couple of hours to kill so we wandered around the area, some atreet vendors were setting up yo sell their goods.

The meal was a banquet with so much food brought out. The resturant had somhuge orchid plants on display.

A few speeches were given by Toby, Christian and Brian with responses from team captains and other players expressing how grateful they were for this experience.

After dinner some ventured off to Night Markets and Karaoke.

Day 10 - 15/12/25

Today we had a bit sleep in as no rush to get anywhere.

We had a game in the afternoon back at the same venue as we had played before. This time we were playing uni students from the
Lunghwa University of Science and Technology.

The boys came away with a win of 50/45 points so it was great to finish on a high for the team. Everyone contributed with strong defence and scoring.

After the game we caught a bus and MRT to the 101 building.

We all ate in the food court which had great dinner options for $10-15 AUD.

The boys then headed off to look around and some of us headed to the 89th floor which had the observation deck and various Christmas and 101 building displays.

After a couple of hours spent there we headed home via the MRT.
