Zion Cup 2026
🏆CHAMPION🏆

Another trophy added to the collection for the young lads. They had an amazing run at the Zion cup undefeated the whole day.

The boys played their heart out in the final until the final against a very aggressive strong experience team which ended up in a penalty shootout, with lads composure and character we were able to secure the victory in the end🔥

MATU FC #17 - Jeremiah Kilung

The Matu FC First Team is built on a simple vision: strong culture, strong character, strong community. Our first team stands as role models for the next generation — athletes who honour their culture, serve their community, and represent Matu with pride.

To make the First Team Squad, players committed themselves to more than Football. They served their community, celebrated and shared their Matu identity, completed cultural responsibilities, and demonstrated the discipline, attitude and character worthy of wearing the Matu badge. These young men have earned their place.

“As a coach and player I am proud to see the MATU COMMUNITY OF QUEENSLAND helping us to create an opportunity for young lads in the local community who love to play football to be able to get a proper training and not only in football but also in life, the community have created a safe environment where these kids can grow positively and also taking these experiences into their on Communities so that they can also build a strong foundation within their community. It’s been almost a year now since we first started the Matu Football Academy and now into MATU FC, these boys have shown a huge amount of growth and I am proud to see them continuing their journey in football and as well as life and representing Matu in the best way they can. They are doing an exceptionally work and can’t wait to seem them bloom in 2026, I believe that changes will come within the communities and as well as community football. Proud to be MATU!” - #17 Jeremiah Kilung

MATU FC #1 - Mang B**g Thang

The Matu FC First Team is built on a simple vision: strong culture, strong character, strong community. Our first team stands as role models for the next generation — athletes who honour their culture, serve their community, and represent Matu with pride.

To make the First Team Squad, players committed themselves to more than Football. They served their community, celebrated and shared their Matu identity, completed cultural responsibilities, and demonstrated the discipline, attitude and character worthy of wearing the Matu badge. These young men have earned their place.

Mang B**g shares some of his reflections:

“As the leader for Matu’s cultural performance, I was tasked with guiding the cultural dance group. In this role, I believe I have a unique perspective on the impact that the football club has on the cultural life of Matu and on the performers themselves. From what I have witnessed, its influence has been nothing but positive.

Matu Football Club has helped these young men connect with their history and culture in ways they never have before. It has given them a safe environment to bond, build fellowship, and strengthen their sense of belonging within the community—surrounded by people who share their identity and values. Watching them perform on big stages, proudly representing their heritage and culture, fills me with an overwhelming sense of pride for my community.” - #1 Mang B**g Thang

MATU FC #19 - Jeptha Kap

The Matu FC First Team is built on a simple vision: strong culture, strong character, strong community. Our first team stands as role models for the next generation — athletes who honour their culture, serve their community, and represent Matu with pride.

To make the First Team Squad, players committed themselves to more than Football. They served their community, celebrated and shared their Matu identity, completed cultural responsibilities, and demonstrated the discipline, attitude and character worthy of wearing the Matu badge. These young men have earned their place.

Jeptha shares some of his reflections:

“Being involved with the Matu bamboo dance and fashion show at Cangyom helped me build confidence and made me realised that I can be helpful to the community by doing small things. There is nothing to be afraid of when representing your culture as it is part of your blood.
This makes the audience feel proud and great as we are not just football players but players that can represent and do things outside the field for our community. Doing cultural acts makes me a better person, not just as a footballer but also as a person for my culture.” - #19 Jeptha Kap

MATU FC #20 - Gideon Thang

The Matu FC First Team is built on a simple vision: strong culture, strong character, strong community. Our first team stands as role models for the next generation — athletes who honour their culture, serve their community, and represent Matu with pride.

To make the First Team Squad, players committed themselves to more than Football. They served their community, celebrated and shared their Matu identity, completed cultural responsibilities, and demonstrated the discipline, attitude and character worthy of wearing the Matu badge. These young men have earned their place.

Gideon shares some of his reflections:

“Being involved with the Matu bamboo dance has taught me the importance of patience, discipline, and cooperation, as every step had to be synchronized with others in order to make the dance work. I also learned to get out of my comfort zone, perform in front of people, and pride myself on being able to represent my culture. This experience has made me more confident, responsible, and aware of how much effort it takes to preserve traditions. Beyond just learning dance steps, I’ve grown to appreciate the value of community, respect for culture, and the satisfaction that comes from working together toward a shared goal.” - #20 Gideon Thang
