✨ Meet Christine - one of the incredible women helping you Sail Our Way! ✨

Chris discovered sailing at 49, during a time of huge change in her life. After leaving a 24‑year career in the pharmaceutical industry to care for her husband until his passing, she found herself navigating life with two teenage daughters and searching for a new sense of identity.

In 2017, she was invited to join a WAGS crew with no experience, no expectations, and not knowing a single person on the boat. But that first sail on Bazinga lit a spark. Suddenly, sailing became her world: technical, social, competitive, unpredictable and absolutely addictive.

With passion as her compass, Chris threw herself into learning and racing regularly on multiple boats, completing RYA and AMSA courses, getting her boat and jetski licences, racing Elliot 6s, and taking part in women’s enrichment regattas. Every opportunity, she grabbed with both hands.

In 2021, she faced her next big and slightly terrifying step: buying Bazinga herself. With mentors, an amazing club community, and a dedicated crew, she embraced another steep learning curve and kept growing.

In 2023, Chris was elected Rear Commodore of WMYC, where she continues to share her passion, leadership, and belief that sailing truly is a lifelong adventure.

Her message to aspiring sailors looking to get into the sport?

✨ “It’s never too late to learn something new, as long as you have the passion. Throughout my sailing journey I have forged so many lifetime friendships all with the common love for the sea. Each day on the water we a learning something knew about ourselves and it’s been wonderful to share that passion with others.”

Dear Members,
Less than one week to go until the big race!
The Founders Trophy is coming up fast on 14 & 15 March, bringing together sailors from across the Bayside to honour tradition, showcase skill, and celebrate the enduring spirit of the WMYC community.
Across two days and four divisions, competitors will take on two passage races designed to challenge, reward, and highlight everything we love about sailing at WMYC. The event stands as a tribute to the foresight and legacy of our founding members, and it continues to be shaped by the renowned hospitality and camaraderie that define our club.
This year, we’re aiming for a 30‑boat fleet, and we warmly invite all WMYC members, along with sailors from our neighbouring Bayside clubs, to be part of this signature event. Whether you’re racing for results or simply keen to join in the tradition, the Founders Trophy offers a memorable weekend on the water and a chance to connect with the broader sailing community.

WMSC is the designated club for the last race in the 2025-2026 Kingfisher Night Race series.
Club Chair Stephen is the RO and needs an assistant to handle flags and act as scribe.

This is a great opportunity to learn about race management in a hands-on fashion.
