“Maitland has a new football team. Congratulations to the Maitland Tigers, our own American Football club. Preparing for their inaugural season, the Tigers will join the Hunter Gridiron League’s 9v9 competition in 2026. Based at Fred Harvey Oval in Woodberry, the club is already generating strong interest and recruiting men 18 and over from Maitland and surrounding areas. The Tigers are led by Head Coach & President Jack Tessier, a Newcastle-born former player whose vision is to give local athletes the opportunity to try something new while strengthening Gridiron’s presence across the Hunter. Despite being new to the area, community support has been overwhelming, with players, volunteers and supporters keen to be involved on and off the field. The club has also received strong backing from local partners, including Club Maitland City, Clutch Creative, Stoic Performance & Recovery, and Apex Community Care. With a strong focus on culture, inclusion and community connection, the Maitland Tigers are working towards their first season in early 2026, marking an exciting new chapter for local sport. Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing the Maitland Tigers to life and helping grow Gridiron across the Hunter region.”
