Days 2 and 3 have not been as productive for the District men's side, winning two games and losing four. But their efforts still have them in the second division in the payoffs tomorrow against Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and Gateway.
The Mackay ladies are also in the second division after winning 5 of their 9 matches. they will play against Fraser Coast, North Queensland and Cunningham.

3 games and 3 wins for the Mackay District men's side on Day 1 at the 2026 State District Sides Championship on the Gold Coast.
Teams skipped by Ray Kurtz, Peter Blackburn and Wayne Handley were undefeated while Manny Isgro lost just one game..

North Q'ld won the Challenge Cup at Club Northern Beaches at the weekend, winning all three games for 9 points ahead of Mackay A on 6 and Mackay B on 3.
Round 1 Mackay A defeated Mackay B 55-44 and North Q'ld defeated Far North Q'ld 55-54.
Round 2 Mackay A 65 Far North Q'ld 38 and North Q'ld defeated Mackay B 51-42.
Round 3 North Q'ld 48 Mackay A 43 and Mackay B 46 defeated Far North Q'ld 36.

We wish our bowlers every success in the Northern Challenge to be played at Club Northern Beaches on Saturday.
Mackay has two teams of 12 playing and they meet in the first game before facing teams from the Far North and North Qld.
All three games will be played on the one day.

MMDBA Selectors, Ron Burt and Wade Cranston, have chosen the following players to represent Mackay at the State District Sides Championship to be held on the Gold Coast in May.
Team 1: David Peet (Souths Suburban), David Blackburn (Souths Suburban), Mark Glew (Northern Beaches), Peter Blackburn (Souths Suburban)
Team2: Phil Blackburn (Wests Tigers), David Pinkard (Wests Tigers), Andrew Bell (Proserpine), Wayne Handley (Souths Suburban).
Team 3: Sam Lurton (Souths Suburban), Manny Isgro (Airlie Beach).
Team 4: Ron Horsfall (Souths Suburban), Cooper Whitestyles (Souths Suburban), Jason Borg (Souths Suburban), Ray Kurtz (Souths Suburban).
The following teams will contest the Northern Challenge at Northern Beaches on 18/19 April with the teams named above:
Team 5: Harry Craig (Proserpine), Harry Quod (Airlie Beach), Clint Vassie (Northern Beaches), Kurt Sheather (Souths Suburban)
Team 6: Dion Brittingham (Mackay Club), Warren Meng (Souths Suburban), Les Rodgers (Souths Suburban), Chris Gee (Northern Beaches).

Trials were held over the weekend 17-18th Jan 2026 at Northern Beaches Bowls Club. We had a great turn out of 40 players nominated for the trial. As usual a small number of late withdrawals due to personal reasons occurred and would like to thank all of the players from Northern Beaches for filling in at late notice to help us run the trial smoothly.
29 players were selected for the next trial against Townsville/NQ to be held at Northern Beaches 21-22nd Feb 2026. Congratulations to all the following players selected to represent MMDBA at the next trial.

As Mackay District is hosting this year's Northern Challenge held 18th April, we will be selecting 2 x 12man teams (24 players) from the next trial. And the 16 players selected to represent MMDBA at the State District Sides (5-9th May) will be at the conclusion of the next trial also.
A big thanks to North Mackay Bowls Club for offering their venue as a back up option in case of inclement weather coinciding with trials and Northern Challenge dates.

To all participants in the 2026 District Trial to be held at Northern Beaches Bowls Club on the weekend of the 17th and 18th January. Please be at the Club at 8.30 am both days, there will be 2 Trial sessions on Saturday with lunch included and 1 Sunday morning on the carpet green, concluding around 11.30 am followed by a Selectors presentation at a cost of $40 per player. Souths Suburban men and North Mackay Ladies have both recorded two wins on the first day of the State Pennants finals and both sides have a great opportunity to play off for a medal tomorrow. Suburban play the undefeated Drayton side while the ladies will play the undefeated Helensvale side.
