In this mornings class, we looked at “Jade Maiden Working Her Loom” in more depth.
⚜️
We split it into parts so we could work on smaller sections before putting it back together.

Yesterday, my long term student and I did a short Tai Chi demonstration at a nursing home to celebrate the incoming Fire Horse Lunar New Year and to entertain the residents.
⚜️
This is the first time in 4.5 years that we have demonstrated together for a public performance. I was proud of her, especially since we don’t train on carpet and don’t train in shoes so it was a different feeling. It’s also been awhile since I did a performance too, but the audience was very appreciative and complimentary, which was lovely.
⚜️
After this we went and had Yumcha, which was delicious.

Yesterday in class we looked at variations of elbow strikes using fajin. Our focus was on single elbows in different directions, both stationary (feet grounded) and moving.
⚜️
Isolating a practice or movement can be quite helpful for improvement. We started with each variant by itself and then added them together in a sequence. Also made me realise I still have a long way to go to master this skill, but I am now, and will always be, a work in progress. Having video helps me to review what I need to adjust in order to improve as well.

Little bit of silk reeling this morning. In this variation, the movement of the arms are like the ones used in the “step to both sides” movement and also the “stepping back waving the arms” movement.
⚜️
I like that silk reeling can be practiced stationary ie the feet are grounded or moving to coordinate the entire body.

Chen Basics Flow 4 - this combines a right/left combination of six sealing four closing and single whip with a left/right Yin Yang circle silk reeling.
⚜️
I put this routine together for my students to be able to practice some basic foundational movements with movements that appear in the Chen forms that wasn’t too long so they could remember it.
⚜️
It allows for a flexible flow with the number of repetitions and can also include short meditation in some movements before moving on.

Not a Tai Chi post, but I wanted to share a different side of my training which has been helping with both my body and mind. Sunday morning workout . I’ve been working hard this year on my theme of STRENGTH. I’m definitely stronger physically than I was at the beginning of the year, I’d like to say I’m also mentally stronger too. Coach certainly sets the challenge bar high for us in these workouts, but we always seem to get it done. Thanks to everyone at FIITFOCUS who has coached me, been my workout partner or fitness challenge team. I truly appreciate the support and encouragement, but not the burpees 🤣. Last 6 week challenge for the year, let’s go!!! 💪
