Qi, Myself & I Tai Chi

Qi, Myself & I Tai Chi Tai Chi started as a 1 year sabbatical & then became the rest of my life.

A few snippets of the fajin training we did this morning in class. These sections come from the Chen 41 or laojiaerlu form.
⚜️
It was certainly a sweaty training this morning! The heat and humidity didn’t help. Apologies for the camera shaking on the tripod each time we did the fajin (mostly Master Kim’s power, not mine lol).

Yesterday Master Kim asked me to demonstrate the Chen 18 form for the group that had come for a 1 hour lesson. Spontaneously performance gave me zero time for any nerves, just had to do hahaha.

First morning training back in Yangshuo with some fajin practice using movements from the Chen 74 form.. Master Kim got me to do this over and over pausing to give me feedback when needed.

This is a little Tai Chi Qi Gong exercise we did in class today. It is a transition from the end of “pounding the mortar” into just the first circle that leads into “white crane spreads it’s wings” as a loop on both sides.
⚜️
We used this practice as a lead in to the level 2 transition in the Right/Left combo for “pounding the mortar”. Sometimes it’s good to break down the movement into smaller parts to practice and then build it up. This is something we did to teach skills in Physical Education too. I like that I can transfer methodology to make it a little easier for my students.

Right/Left Combos 8: Pounding The Mortar Level 2 Transition
⚜️
This is the eighth instalment in this series where I put together 1 or 2 movements from the Chen Style Tai Chi forms that can be practiced on both sides of the body.
⚜️
It definitely gets the brain ticking over when you have to transpose the movements to the opposite side, even though the movements in this combination do appear on both sides in different Chen forms.
⚜️
I’ve used a more complex transition (level 2) in this one, where it uses the first part of “White Crane Spreads It’s Wings” to transition to the opposite side. If you want a simpler version, see the level 1 transistion version.
⚜️
This is another flow that can be practiced even if you have limited space. You can do as many reps as you like. Enjoy and happy practicing!

Right/Left Combos 7: Pounding The Mortar Level 1 Transition
⚜️
This is the seventh instalment in this series where I put together 1 or 2 movements from the Chen Style Tai Chi forms that can be practiced on both sides of the body.
⚜️
It definitely gets the brain ticking over when you have to transpose the movements to the opposite side, even though the movements in this combination do appear on both sides in different Chen forms.
⚜️
I’ve used a simpler transition (level 1) in this one, where it basically steps back to the opposite side. For an extra challenge, see the level 2 transistion version.
⚜️
This is another flow that can be practiced even if you have limited space. You can do as many reps as you like. Enjoy and happy practicing!

In this mornings class, we looked at “Jade Maiden Working Her Loom” in more depth.
⚜️
We split it into parts so we could work on smaller sections before putting it back together.

Yesterday, my long term student and I did a short Tai Chi demonstration at a nursing home to celebrate the incoming Fire Horse Lunar New Year and to entertain the residents.
⚜️
This is the first time in 4.5 years that we have demonstrated together for a public performance. I was proud of her, especially since we don’t train on carpet and don’t train in shoes so it was a different feeling. It’s also been awhile since I did a performance too, but the audience was very appreciative and complimentary, which was lovely.
⚜️
After this we went and had Yumcha, which was delicious.
