Turns out, I'm still the automation.

I've always been a bit of a MacGyver in business. Give me a problem and I'll usually find some bloody way to make it work.

That's exactly what I did while I was away.

My keyword workflows weren't ready, so I thought, bu**er it. If someone comments, I'll send the link myself.

Fine when it's one person.

But I remember thinking, Sonya Maree, what happens when it's twenty?

I don't want to automate the human bits. I want the conversations.

But sending the same link over and over? My system can carry that.

So today I went in to fix it.

And gaudy lordy. 😂

Let's just say one innocent little keyword has taken me down quite the rabbit hole.

But the belief hasn't changed.

I want technology carrying the repetitive bits so I have more room for the human ones.

And maybe you're a bit like me.

You've found ways to make things work because you're capable and resourceful and, quite frankly, you can.

But just because you can keep holding all those little pieces together doesn't mean you should have to.

What could your system quietly carry for you, so you've got more room for the conversations, the creative work and the life you actually want to be in?

That's really what all of this comes back to for me.

Welcome, beautiful soul. I'm Sonya Maree.

I'm 58, living in a caravan in Tasmania with René, still on the road to Gaia Grove Sanctuary.

I'm a brand designer, ecosystem builder and lifestyle creator, building a life I don't need a holiday from.

My world has three pathways.

It still amazes me that I didn't choose veganism.

Veganism chose me.

Let me explain.

Have you ever had a quiet whisper change the course of your life?
I have.

I can still remember the moment as though it happened yesterday.
It was October 2019.

I was standing on our 100 square metre deck after we'd just finished hosting a beautiful retreat.

I had a warm cup of dandelion tea wrapped between my hands.
In front of me were rolling grassy paddocks.

I could hear the river in the distance.

The chooks were scratching around in the grass looking for insects.

It was like eye candy everywhere.

Everything I had ever dreamed of.
I was feeling so grounded and so grateful.

And then came a butterfly that tickled my heart.

A gentle whisper.

Why don't we just eat fruit today?

It seemed far too small to matter.

Looking back now, I realise it was never really about the fruit.

It was the beginning of a conversation that would quietly change the way I ate and, in many ways, the way I lived.

Not because someone argued with me.

Not because I wanted to prove a point.

But because I chose to keep listening to the quiet nudges that kept returning.

Today, that same philosophy lives inside My Happy Little Cow Kitchen.

Nourishing food, kind hearts.

Back at uni I fell in love with computers. Years later, teaching, I ended up the IT support person for a whole cluster of schools. Not fixing machines, helping other teachers actually use the software. I even thought about getting certified in IT support back then.

Then life took me other places. I put it aside for a long time.

And here I am now, decades later, running my own agency, with a desktop app I built for Freedom Tool Suite so people do not even have to log in through a browser. Turns out it never left. I just took the scenic route back to it.

If you have got the time and the right support, tech is something you can absolutely learn. And even if it is not what you want to do forever, understanding how your digital home works means you know what to outsource, what to expect, and what it actually takes. That clarity is worth everything.

Creating beautiful spaces where women feel more fully themselves. Online in a website. In person at a retreat. In print. On land. All of it is the same work.

Right now I am writing this from a caravan in Tasmania, with my husband René and our golden retriever Bella beside me. We are building toward Gaia Grove Sanctuary, our dream piece of land with river frontage. Every piece of work I do brings us one step closer.

I have been building businesses since high school, starting with tie-dyeing jeans and never really stopping. Fashion design, teaching, photography, retreat operations, digital services.

Over 40 years and across every season of life, the same thing kept proving itself true. Sustainable income comes from aligning your work with your values. Not from chasing someone else's model.

I used to think flow meant ease.

That if something was aligned, it would feel smooth.

But the first time I drove towing our caravan, my hands were shaking on the wheel.

For two and a half years, I’d said no. Too heavy. Too risky. Too much.

Then one morning, I said yes.

Every wobble lit up my whole body. Chest tight. Heart racing.
I wanted to pull over and swap seats.

But I didn’t.

I stayed.
I breathed.
And instead of fighting it, I let my body move through it.

And somewhere in that moment… something shifted.

Not in my head. In my body.

The wobble didn’t mean I was off track. It meant something in me was letting go.

Same thing on Mount Ossa.
Standing metres from the summit, frozen.

It wasn’t pushing that got me there. It was trust. And letting myself move through the fear.

That’s what I know now.

Flow isn’t always calm.
Sometimes it feels like everything in you is shaking loose.

And this is where most people turn back.

Not because they’re not capable…
but because they don’t know how to move through that moment.

That’s the work.

I want to say something that might surprise you coming from someone in direct sales.

Please do not buy this product because you think you are going to make a lot of money.

I mean it.

Over thirty years in business, brick and mortar, self employment, online, I have seen it happen too many times. Someone joins because of the income promise.

They never fall in love with the products. They never embody what they are sharing. And then they blame the business when it does not work.

The business was never the problem.

Ask yourself first. Do I actually want this for my health? Do I value what this product does for my body? Can I put my name behind this one hundred percent?

I just had a little soul nap, watched an episode on Binge in my pjs, and now I'm about to take Bella for a walk through the trees to get some fresh air before tonight.

René is in the kitchen baking a cauliflower and plant-based cheese pie for dinner.

And I have nervous butterflies.

There was a time I thought butterflies were a bad sign. Now I know they mean something real is about to happen.

It is masterclass day.
This morning I had an appointment with my education provider for the certificate I am studying.

René and I rushed around getting blades for the brush cutter, gas struts, building materials.

I bought myself fluffy winter pyjamas.

And tonight at 7pm I am going live with Ebony and Kathryn.

This is the thing nobody tells you about working for yourself.

Life does not stop. It never stops.

But when the work is yours, you find the hours. Early morning. Late at night. You double up the next day if you need to.

That flexibility is not luck. It is a skill set. And it is one worth learning.
