East Kimberley Open today sponsored by Steve Cooke, and as usual Steve made it a to p day by providing the best prizes we have all year, as well as putting on sandwiches for lunch and drinks afterwards. Darragh Cribbin and Skip Mader shared the top prizes by both scoring 39 stableford points, with Darragh getting first place on a countback. We can't report on Darragh's acceptance speech, because no-one could understand his broad Irish accent. That's Darragh on the left in the photo, next to Skip. Darryl Smith took third place with 37 points, and Dippa Goldup won the gross prize. Super Six went to Lindsay Innes with 16 points, one ahead of Darragh. Not one player got a 2 today, so the two's club jackpots to next Sunday. Nearest the pins went to Adam Harman on the second hole, Scotty Day on the fourth and Skip on 16. Dippa was best second on the 8th, and Sandie Cockayne best third.
The Bishop's comp on Saturday was played on the back nine, and Shorty and Darryl led the way with 20 stableford points, followed by Prue Dunstan on 19 points. Those scores resulted in changes at the top of the overall leaderboard (best 6 rounds counting) with Prue moving to second place on 109 points (behind Sandie on 113) and Darryl into third on 107 points.
Scroungers on Thursday played a 2-man Ambrose comp on the back nine and Brett Cooper and Strop Oliver won with 23 stableford points, followed by Sandie and Shorty on 22 points, and Scull Maslin and Mark Burns third with 20.
First of the matchplay quarter finals was played on Thursday, with Scotty beating Darryl 4 and 3. It was a great battle for the first 10 holes, with Darryl's hot putter taking him to a one shot lead, but Scotty then won the next 5 holes to win the match. Other games saw Shimmy Morris beat Steve Leman 4 and 2 after a very slow start by Steve saw Shimmy 4 up after 4 holes and their putters not coming out of their bags till the fifth hole, Troy Puckridge beating Aydan Nobbs 6 and 4, and Dippa making it a bad day for the Nobbs family by beating Aydan's dad Trevor 4 and 3.
It's all on again this week, with the Captains vs Presidents teams over 18 holes of stableford on Sunday, Bishops on the front nine on Saturday, and who knows what for Scroungers on Thursday.

Bingo Night at Lake Kununurra Golf Club 🎉

Lake Kununurra Golf Club hosted our inaugural Bingo Night on Monday, and it was a fantastic evening enjoyed by our local community.

Players came prepared, purchasing their books of 20 games and dabbers, ready for the numbers to be called. A big thank you to Ellie for calling the numbers clearly and consistently throughout the evening, while keeping the games running smoothly with a variety of winning combinations, including single lines, double lines and full house.

Cash prizes were awarded immediately once winners were confirmed, with an additional bonus cash prize up for grabs in the final round.

A huge thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who helped make the night a success — from preparing the light snacks in the kitchen, serving at the bar and assisting as spotters, to verifying the winners. Your support is greatly appreciated.

We would also like to thank Scotty for kindly loaning us the PA system for the evening.

All funds raised through Bingo will go towards purchasing greenkeeping equipment to help maintain and keep our golf course in top condition.

On Saturday, the Lake Kununurra Golf Club welcomed five participants to our weekly golf coaching session. Everyone was put through their paces, learning the fundamentals of the game with a focus on using a 7-iron, chipping, and putting.

Golf coaching is held every Saturday at 2:00pm, and players of all ages and skill levels are welcome. Whether you’ve never picked up a golf club before or you’re looking to improve your game, come down, have a hit, and enjoy a relaxed afternoon at the club afterwards.

It’s been fantastic to see the progress of last year’s coaching group. Many have developed their skills enough to play 9-hole rounds and have now started submitting scores to establish their official golf handicaps.

Next week’s session will be all about the driver, as we work on sending a few balls straight down the middle of the fairway!

For just $10, you’ll receive golf clubs, balls, and two hours of coaching—all you need to do is turn up and have some fun.

Plenty of good scores today competing for the prizes in the 18 hole Stableford event sponsored by Andrew Pretlove, and Adam Harman had the best of them with 43 points. Chris Puckridge was second with 41 points, with Brock Dawe and Sandie Cockayne tied for third with 40 points. Prue Dunstan was next with 39 points, which gave women 3 of the top 5 spots. Photo has Adam and Chris on the left, then Charlie, sponsor Andrew's son (who presented the prizes) and Dippa Goldup, winner of the gross award, on the right. Dippa won that with 76 off the stick, only one better than Adam's 77. Sandie won the super six with 13 points, with Brock second with 10 points.
Wade Mincham had the only 2 for the day, on the 4th hole, so the two's club pool was all his, and took nearest the pin on that hole as well. The only other nearest the pin winner was Adam on 16, and Skip Mader had best 2nd on 8, with Sandie best third.
Sandie was in good form on the weekend, scoring 20 stableford points in the Bishops 9 hole comp on Saturday, one behind Scotty Day who led with 21. Other good scores came from Rhi Morris and Lachlan Short on 19, and Darryl Smith on 18. Sandie has the overall lead in Bishops, with 113 points from her best 6 rounds, well clear of Matt Hannagan in second with 102 points (Sandie also has the overall lead in the Sunday Stableford Championship, with 221 from her best 6 rounds, 6 points ahead of Brock).
Scroungers on Thursday played the front nine, and RB Dessert won the day with 22 points, well clear of Adam on 19 and Scotty and Brock on 18.
Scroungers is on again this Thursday, and is obviously a good way to prepare for the weekend, with the leading players from last Thursday all doing well on the weekend (RB didn't play on the weekend). Bishops is on the back nine on Saturday, and then next Sunday is the ever popular East Kimberley Open sponsored by Steve Cooke's Ord Mechanical Services.

All the golfers at LKGC look forward to the last Sunday of each month when they get the chance to compete for the monthly mug. They competed for the Innes Holdings mug today, sponsored by Lindsay Innes, and won by Troy Puckridge with a nett 67, one ahead of Sticks Healy on 68 and Brent Nichols on 69. It's been a long spell between mugs for Troy, who last won one in 2016, after earlier wins in 2013 and 2014. Troy shot 74 off the stick, made up of two birdies, three bogeys and four pars on each nine. That wasn't the best gross of the day, that honour going to Reuben Darch with 73, with Brent Nichols third with a 75. Reuben also won the super six with a nett 22, with Troy and Sandie Cockayne next on 23.
Reuben, Brent and Mark Burns shared the 2s club money, all three with birdies on the short par three 4th hole. Neil Maslin won the nearest the pin on that hole, with Sandie winning on the 2nd and Don Archer on the 16th (no-one drove the 11th hole). Sean Douglas had the best second on the 8th hole, and Sandie was best third.
Least amount of putts on the day was 23 by Reuben, and Trev Nobbs won the wonky putter for the most putts with 35. The most unwanted prize on each monthly mug day is the moose for the person scoring the most on a single hole, and Adam Chandler's 22 on the 12th hole was the best seen for many years. That's Adam on the left in the photo (with Troy in the middle and Sticks on the right), and Adam wasn't smiling like that as he compiled his 22, his playing partners stunned by his language. From the 12th tee you have to hit over a swamp, which Adam normally does easily, but today he mish*t his first 6 shots into the water, which meant he was up to his 13th stroke, which went over the swamp but into some water on the right of the fairway. His next shot was hit beautifully but couldn't be found, and eventually he was in the hole for 22.
Bishops comp yesterday on the back nine was (as it always is) Stableford, so there was no chance of anyone having that sort of a problem on the 12th, but scores were poor, with no-one playing to their handicap or better. Scroungers on Thursday played what they call the 'bastard nine' made up of holes 1, 2, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 8 and 9, and we don't know how Adam went on the 12th, but he was joint winner on the day with 19 stableford points, along with Alan Green, with Brett Cooper third. Match play is also progressing nicely, and we'll put the results of the four quarter finals as they are played. First to play the quarters will be Darryl Smith and Scotty Day next Saturday.
Next Sunday's 18 hole stableford event is sponsored by Andrew Pretlove, but you don't have to wait till then, Scroungers is on Thursday, and Bishops on the front nine on Saturday. Also next Saturday (and every Saturday after that) there is free coaching at the club at 2 pm. Clubs and balls provided, so if you've never played come down and have a go. Don't know how good our coaches are, but they'll have you playing holes in less than 22 strokes in no time! And if golf sounds too strenuous, the following Monday night there will be Bingo at the clubhouse.

Hotel Kununurra Open today, and as is the case every year, lots of good prizes to be won. Thirty one players, and only four were able to play to their handicap or better, Francis Bright (42), Sandie Cockayne (40), Trevor Nobbs (39) and Scotty Day (38). Francis and Sandie played in the same group, so it seems they brought the best out of each other. Scotty also won his matchplay round yesterday, and finished second in today's super six (losing to Sandie on a countback) so he's had a good weekend.
Wade Mincham also had a good day today, eagling the par 4 sixth hole and also scoring twos on holes 4 and 11 to provide 3 of the days 5 twos (the others coming from Steve Cooke on 4 and Dippa Goldup on 11) and finally coming second in the gross comp with 78 off the stick (Reuben Darch won gross with 76). Wade's eagle consisted of a drive over the trees on to the fairway in front of the hole, and then chipping in.
Nearest the pins went to Don Archer on 2, Wade on 4, Dippa on 11 and Eve Nielsen on 16. Best second on 8 went to Steve Leman and best third was Sandie, and Eve picked up best third on 14, a special prize because it is the hole that Hotel Kununurra sponsors (no-one got best second). We usually don't mention particularly bad performances such as NAGA, but Bob Harwood deserves a special mention for the super six. The thirty other players had scores ranging from 13 to 6, and Bob was next with 1. How can you get a total of one point from six successive holes?! (the one point came from the 13th, then he wiped the next five, but said he was unlucky on some!).

Shimmy and Rhi Morris (in the centre) were champions, and Darryl Smith and Prue Dunstan (the pair on the left had best nett, with Brett Cooper and Sandie Cockayne (right) finishing third. Scroungers on Thursday was played on the front nine and won by visitor Alan Green with 22 stableford points. Scroungers captain Adam Harman was next with 20 and Darryl Smith third with 19. Scroungers is on this and every Thursday, then turn up Saturday and use the Bishops comp (back nine this week) to prepare for Sunday's third round of the grade championships (stroke event).

Ord River Electrics Foursomes Championship today, played over 36 holes, and Sean Douglas and Scotty Day won with a nett 143 strokes, 3 strokes ahead of Steve Leman and Troy Douglas, who placed second on a countback from Adam Harman and Dan Hayman. Scotty has just returned from a golfing holiday in Thailand and had a good weekend, winning his round of matchplay on Saturday on the first extra hole.
Best gross score went to Steve and Troy with 160 strokes. They were well back after the first 18 holes with an 85, Shimmy Morris and Brent Nichols leading at that stage with 79, but Steve and Troy improved by 10 strokes on their second 18. Shimmy and Brent finished second on 162, and Sean and Scotty were third on 167.
Bishops comp on Saturday was played on the front nine, and no-one played to their handicap, Prue Dunstan and Bob Harwood best on the day, each with 17 stableford points. Sandie Cockayne leads the comp with 104 points from her best six rounds, with Matt Hannagan next on 102 and Bob third on 101.
Scroungers on Thursday played the front 9, and had a novelty event that all 20 players enjoyed, some more than others. Teams of two multiplied their stableford scores on each hole to get their total for that hole. So if both players scored 3s they would get 9 points, but if one player wiped the hole they got nothing. Stuart Carson, back in Kununurra on holidays, teamed up with Darryl Smith to win on a countback with 36 points, from Warren Chapman and Steve Leman. Third was Duane Burns and Troy Puckridge.
None of the above were worth photographing, so we've dug back in our files to open day earlier this year to find something more agreeable.
Next Sunday is back to a miserly 18 holes for the Hotel Kununurra Open Stableford, while Bishops in on the front nine again on Saturday, and who knows what sort of a format scroungers will dream up on Thursday.
