30 days until the Launceston to Hobart Yacht Race probably going to be harder this year with the inconsistent weather Tasmania has been having. But the crew are ready. Delivery crew on standby from the 18th December.

They just have to be Taswegians! Yes, they are completely unique. Little wonder too, as their home is just so special. However, rather than talk about all 575,000 souls that call Tasmania home, we are going to focus in on just two. [Photo (c) Rob Cumine] https://www.yachtsandyachting.com/news/291738/?source=facebook

We Justin Hickey and myself have some exciting news that we received approval from the World Speed Sailing Record Council and to proceed with our attempt.

We needed to provide evidence why this attempt was of importance and or historical value to sailing.

Our double-handed, non-stop circumnavigation of Tasmania in a 30ft monohull, as it represents a pioneering achievement in offshore sailing that has never been accomplished before, establishing a new benchmark for endurance and skill in challenging Southern Ocean conditions.

Unlike established point-to-point races such as the Sydney to Hobart (approximately 630 nautical miles), the Melbourne to Hobart (around 435 nautical miles), and the Launceston to Hobart (285 nautical miles), our attempt—spanning roughly 800-1100 nautical miles around Tasmania's rugged coastline, including treacherous Bass Strait crossings and exposed west coast gales—demands unrelenting vigilance from just two crew members on a compact vessel, testing limits of navigation, weather routing, and human resilience.

We now have a scheduled start date between July-October 2026. Based upon weasther patterns and routings we will provide a start date to WSSRC and have 14 days to depart from that date.

We would thank all our sponsors as we continue to build up to the Launceston to Hobart in December, training, streamlining and improving our systems onboard next year.

Launceston to Hobart | World Record Attempt | Inshore Racing Campaign We’re proud to announce Orca as a major sponsor for our 2025/2026 season—supporting a bold campaign that spans offshore world records and competitive inshore racing. Our headline challenge? A World Sailing Speed Record circumnavigation of Tasmania: 850 nautical miles, double-handed, unassisted, non-stop—through some of Australia’s wildest seas. This route has never been officially recorded, and with WSSRC ratification, we aim to be the first. Before that, we’re taking on the iconic Launceston to Hobart—testing gear, tactics, and endurance in a demanding offshore race down Tasmania’s rugged east coast. We’ll also be sharpening skills and pushing limits in inshore racing regattas throughout the season, staying race-fit and showcasing the performance gear and partners who make it all possible.
