We Justin Hickey and myself have some exciting news that we received approval from the World Speed Sailing Record Council and to proceed with our attempt.
We needed to provide evidence why this attempt was of importance and or historical value to sailing.
Our double-handed, non-stop circumnavigation of Tasmania in a 30ft monohull, as it represents a pioneering achievement in offshore sailing that has never been accomplished before, establishing a new benchmark for endurance and skill in challenging Southern Ocean conditions.
Unlike established point-to-point races such as the Sydney to Hobart (approximately 630 nautical miles), the Melbourne to Hobart (around 435 nautical miles), and the Launceston to Hobart (285 nautical miles), our attempt—spanning roughly 800-1100 nautical miles around Tasmania's rugged coastline, including treacherous Bass Strait crossings and exposed west coast gales—demands unrelenting vigilance from just two crew members on a compact vessel, testing limits of navigation, weather routing, and human resilience.
We now have a scheduled start date between July-October 2026. Based upon weasther patterns and routings we will provide a start date to WSSRC and have 14 days to depart from that date.
We would thank all our sponsors as we continue to build up to the Launceston to Hobart in December, training, streamlining and improving our systems onboard next year.
