Horses understand from the release of pressure. Our aim as riders and trainers should be to develop a WHISPER in the pressure, be QUICK on the release once they’ve responded and then leave our horses alone to enjoy the moment of understanding.

Success at competition!! How would you order the following in terms of importance

*Placing - Receiving a ribbon
*You arrived on time for gear check and warm up!
*You were able to catch your horse and they got on the float no fuss
*Remembering your dressage test
*Your horse stayed forward in SJ and took that tricky oxer like a champ
*You remembered all your gear
*Horse was calm and listening
*Horse was in and out of vet check after Cross country in less than 5mins

So much behind the scenes for a competition, we can sometimes focus on the end goal and forget all that needs to come together on a competition day.

My thoughts on what’s important
*think of your competition as another training day
*success is the small wins you’ve been working on, yes that oxer, or section of a dressage test, floating
*don’t compete against others, look at what you have achieved in your small wins!

And my top pick ***calmness, fitness levels, horse preparedness, and your horse clicking in with you**** they are the real wins, true evidence of your training!

A word on ribbons, sure nice to have, but you are a winner just going out and connecting with your horse!

Love to hear your thoughts, what’s important to you?

Pop quiz……was this photo taken before or after Cross Country? Have a guess (if you don’t already know the answer!)

Welcome Leila to Alequine team! Leila will be available for coaching and you will see her working alongside me with clinics. Leila enjoys dressage, show jumping and eventing. She has been training her own horse, and loves working horses through difficult moments to progress their training.

Legacy playing and working out where to place his legs! Once relaxed, it’s super to see horses interact and think through the questions being asked, rather than be reactive. Mickey is super relaxed, thinking this through.

Balance - what do you think of when this is said? Your balance? Your horses balance? What about how you balance together? Are you both balancing independently so you can work together harmoniously or is one of you balancing on the other? Often a horse or rider hanging on or leaning, is still working out how to balance. Something, I frequently revisit when riding myself or working with a rider/horse combination in lessons. Worth reflecting on!
