THE RUSTY TIMES

“RUSTIES SNEAK HOME BY 3 TO FINISH THE SEASON IN 3RD PLACE”

The Rusty Manholes closed out the Mixed Netball season in true Rusty fashion. chaotic, courageous and questionable at times, but ultimately victorious. Securing a 3 point win over Whine N Deep heat 28 to 25 to finish 3rd in the Div 4 mixed netball competition.

In a historic masterstroke, Bucks returned tonight and sacked Jaz as captain running straight to the umpires for the toss as Jaz warmed up.

Bucks came out like Steph Curry in a netball bib, couldn’t miss, wouldn’t miss and didn’t plan on missing.

Liah took the C bib for the opening term and absolutely dominated. After the first quarter she told Mick:

> “The kid’s rattled since he lost his bandanna.”

Which honestly might be the most Rusty scouting report ever produced. She then went to WD and defended a man twice her height and keeping him at arms distance from the ball.

Mick was put into Center and unable to go near the opponent Liah had rattled, he wisely shifted his defensive efforts to anyone within arm’s reach so it didn’t look like he was having a stinker.

Jaz started the night down back, giving the Rusties much needed centimetres in defence. She then swung forward to give Bucks a spell, picked up where she left off and continued the scoreboard pressure.

At the 3/4 time break we were up by 1 and the alarm bells rang, we were short down back.
The call was made:
“Get Jaz in defence" and just like that Sarah had been benched and Jaz was back in defence.
She answered the call and defended like our season depended on it.

Sarah played one of her classic utility games small when needed, tall when required, link-up queen when running WA, and then thrown into GD in the third to battle the tallest man on the court.

She did everything humanly possible to shut him down, hands, hips, heart and pure Rusty stubbornness.

Staffo started in defence, then swung into attack for the second half, casually dropping goals when the moment called for it.

When he was bored, he entertained himself (and the crowd) with stripper-style moves around the goal post, proving once again that the man is a walking R-rated warm-up routine.

Birchy was pure discipline cutting off everything, shifting angles, confusing attackers, and swapping with Maddog to keep the opposition guessing which Rusty would steal the next intercept.

Maddog himself was rock solid all game. Then in the heat of the fourth quarter, standing alone in the defensive arc he made the wildest move of the night: instead of grabbing the ball, he punched it about 15 courts away.

Brilliant tactic. Burnt crucial seconds. Textbook chaos.

Shelley arrived just to watch. She ended up:

on the court,

mocking the opposition,

questioning umpires who were definitely correct and threading perfect link-up passes down the court.Peak Shelley.

Moshy played the first half, struggled early, then found his radar late to build a handy lead.

He then benched himself for the second half, morphing into a sideline coach while also explaining mixed netball positions to an inquisitive onlooker who had “dust in their eye” and needed to roll their eyes repeatedly to remove the foreign object.

This keen bystander sat side-by-side with Mel, learning scoring and positioning from one of the most knowledgeable umpires in the Karratha Netball Association.

If handing out unsolicited netball education was a stat, Moshy led the league.

Halfway through the match, one of the opposition’s players continued test our young umpire.Big mistake.She fired back with the line of the season
"If you would like to continue questioning the descisions, you will be removed from the court"

Scene.
Set.
Match.
The Rusties strongly considered presenting her with a membership card on the spot.

Thanks to everyone that played for the Rusties this year especially our fill ins, without you we would of needed to Forfeit. It was a very enjoyable season and if we stick at it we will win it one day.

This one really bloody sucked to post!

🏐 THE RUSTY TIMES – “THE DOUBLE DREAM DIES AT 8:45PM” 🏐
Shoot Happens 27 def. Rusty Manholes 18

The dream was alive.
The Indoor Cricket premiership already in the bag.
The whispers of a legendary, history-making Rustys Double circling the town like a Karratha seagull chasing chips.

But at 8:45pm tonight, when the final siren cut through the Leisureplex air, the dream didn’t just fade it turned into a full-blown Rusty Nightmare.

😵 A NIGHT THE RUSTYS WEREN’T THEMSELVES

For three painful quarters the Rusty Manholes played like they’d forgotten which team wore aqua.

Passes went straight to the opposition

Other passes went over the heads of our own teammates

Shooters couldn’t sink the easy ones

The umpires introduced the new 6 foot obstruction and the percieved contact rules for much of the night but we didn't adjust quick enough to the interpretations.

Was this out of character?
Mate, it was out of a different universe.

🛡️ Outsized (Again) — But Not Outworked

As per Rusty tradition:
Outsized? Yes.
Outmuscled? Probably.
Outhearted? NEVER.

Liah and Sarah, both generously listed as “tallish,” stood as tall as physics would allow.
Short? Maybe.
But their effort?
Six-foot-nine.

♟️ Mel’s Tactical Magnet Mayhem

Coach Mel went full Ross Lyon mixed with Dr Phil:

Liah basically everywhere but the bar

No combination brought the breakthrough, but you could not fault Liah’s engine.
She ran more kilometres than Staffo does in a full work week.

🥊 Sarah vs The World

Sarah copped:

A stray elbow from the opposition

A friendly-fire Maddog collision

Both times she bounced up like a Jack-in-the-box with caffeine dependency.
Untouchable resilience.

🙅‍♀️ Renae vs The Umpire (No Contest)

Poor Renae couldn’t buy a call.

She was pinged for:

Contact

Obstruction

Replay

Footwork

Double dribble??

Hands in the back???

And at one point we swear the ump signalled a 50-metre penalty

There are war crimes with fewer whistles.

⚡ Jazlyn – The Everywhere Engine

Jaz was everywhere.
Running, carrying, intercepting, driving, and launching a pass 10 feet over Moshy’s head, causing her mum on the sideline to mutter a defeated:
“Oh, Jazlyn…”

Did Jaz care?
Not a chance.
She just kept going.

🏃‍♂️ Mick’s Two-For-One Defence

Mick spent most of the night marking two opponents at once.

Rock solid at WD, and when shoved into Centre late, he helped turn the tide.
Sadly, the comeback came about a quarter too late.

🎯 Jaz & Moshy: Reunited… Kinda

Jaz started on fire — nailing the one-handers like she was Steph Curry’s niece.

But then she reunited with Moshy in the second quarter and…
yikes.

The chemistry disappeared.
The passes were fluff.
The positioning was chaos.
The shots were… character building.

But in the last quarter?
The old superpower was back.
The spark returned.
The shots dropped.
The vibes were immaculate.

Give them another quarter and the comeback was on.

🎨 Moshy: Missing in Q2, Dreaming of Tattoos

Moshy had a very off second quarter.
Rumour is he mentally checked out while thinking about designs for the Rusty Manholes Premiership Tattoo.

But when the game looked gone, he and Jaz flipped the switch.
They pushed, hustled and nearly dragged us back from oblivion.

🍺 Staffo – Still Staffo

Older? Sure.
Slower? Maybe.
Deadly? Absolutely.

Every time he got the ball near the ring he dropped it
as cleanly as a Jindong sliding down his gullet.
Barely missed one.

A genuine Rusty icon.

🛡️ Undersized, Underdogs, Unbelievable – The Defenders

Despite being outsized again, our defenders fought like absolute maniacs.

👊 The Birchy & Maddog GK Tag Team

A masterstroke of necessity and chaos:
Birchy and Maddog took turns at GK, swapping each quarter like a WWE tag team.

Undersized?
Absolutely.
But effective?
They swatted, slapped, poked, tapped and intercepted nearly everything that dared enter the circle.

Opposing shooters looked confused…
“How are these two so short yet so everywhere??”

It was a defensive masterclass in pure Rusty spirit.

🔮 THE CURSE OF THE NEW BLUE BIBS

And then… the realisation.

The bibs.

THE. BLUE. BIBS.

In an attempt to save the girls from having to share the men’s sweat-drenched bibs, Mel lovingly purchased two brand new blue sets.

Fresh. Clean. Unsweated.

And that’s exactly the problem.

This family doesn’t run on hydration, training, tactics or height.
We run on shared Rusty sweat, mixed together like a sacred broth.

Without it, we were spiritually empty.

As Captain Planet probably would’ve said if he’d played Div 4 netball:
"With our sweat combined- we are Rusty Manholes"

But tonight? We were bib-washed and powerless.




🔮 NEXT WEEK: THE PLAYOFF FOR THIRD

We fight for bronze.
We fight for pride.
We fight to avoid finishing fourth, which nobody remembers.

And we get BUCKS BACK.
Clipboard. Whistle. Power stance.
She’ll sort the magnets. She’ll sort the chaos. She’ll sort the universe.

💙 HEADS UP, RUSTIES

That was the worst we’ve played all year.
And even then?
We were still in the fight.

Shake it off.
Reset.
Regroup.
Return with fire.

The Double may be gone…
but the fight isn’t.

It’s do-or-die tonight for the Div 4 Rusty Manholes, and if there’s one thing this mob absolutely loves, it’s pressure. Bills piling up? No worries. Groins hanging by dental floss? Standard. Must-win netball match to book a spot in the Grand Final?
The Rustys THRIVE on that sort of chaos.

It’s no secret the Rustys have been running a skeleton women’s division the last few weeks. Em’s left us, Rara’s been gallivanting, and our defensive stocks have been shorter than Smithys 3 feet.

But the carrot is massive:
Win tonight, and we get BUCKS back.
Clipboard ready. Hair pristine. Umpires trembling.
It’s the ultimate prize.

Well well well look who’s chasing victory now Rusty friends!!

THE RUSTY TIMES “RUSTIES ROLL WHINE N DEEP HEAT TO KEEP THE DOUBLE DREAM ALIVE!”
Indoor Cricket Premiers ✔️ | Mixed Netball Contenders 🔥

If you’d told a stranger in Karratha 12 months ago that the phrase “Rusty Manholes” would strike fear into two different sporting leagues they’d ask what pub you got kicked out of.
But here we are:
Just 72 hours after the indoor cricket side lifted the B-Grade premiership trophy, the Div 4 mixed netball squad stepped up and delivered a statement. A 46–24 demolition of Whine N Deep Heat has sent a fresh wave of panic through the top 2, and the dream of the historic Rusty Double is officially on.

The old firm was back together and delivered like Uber Eats in peak hour. Captain Jaz and Moshy got us off to a good start in the shooters circle scoring a whopping 16 points in the first quarter and only missing 2 shots between them.

With Rara hanging 10 in Hawaii or getting Hitched to Sam by Elvis in Vegas we needed to find some tall timber to fill that void, last week it was Sarah, this week we cycled through our taller players in Emma and Liah, while they held their own at ground level, anything in the air was a struggle against a man about 6 foot 5.

Smithy and Shelley please don't measure it out on the ground to see how big he is.

Em and Liah got their chance in the wing areas to show the run and class they possess, but when you defend like they do it is hard to see them spending much time in the midfield. Remember Forwards sell memberships, Mids sign sponsorships, Backs win premierships.

They were protected by a couple of Burley blokes in Birchy and Maddog who looked like a couple of 80s fullbacks taking on Dunstall and Lockett in the square, which gave moshy an idea of Grass netball with no contact rule.

While Moshy enjoyed the physicality he was seeing, Umpire Mel did not. While we are still unsure if the sh*ts she had on came from all the contact she had to call or because Jazlyn Bray spat the dummy at the umpire at quarter time blaming her for not bringing a water bottle for her while she took and afternoon siesta at the ripe old age of 18.

Sarah was solid as ever playing WA and C and was not put off by the BamBam look alike on the otherside, as she attacked everything like a Horrorsaurus chasing Fred and Barney. For such a little lady she has more fight and resilence then a lot of people i know which make her a pleasure to play alongside.

Mick was as solid as ever at WD being the conduit between the two arcs for most of the game, then read the maddog playbook and injected himself into the center which payed dividends really driving the ball forward to set up Staffo and Jaz to bring the game home strong.

Staffo Started down in WD and intercepted everything that came his way like Jeremy Mcgovern in the 2018 Grand final and had passages of brillance as he passed the ball forward continuously to Moshy and Jaz to sink everything that came their way, his night didn't stop there as the coach seen an opportunity and swung him into attack to continue his dominance of the night and seal out tge game for us.

The final words across the PA "Cease Play" had meant the Rusties had given themselves every chance to still be in the running for a top 2 finish. Needing to win next weeks game to all but seal it.

The feeling of Joy and Hapiness after such a dominant win, came crashing down when Moshy had some unsettling news that our little livewire Em had played her last game for the club as her contract is up her team leader is shipping her back to Perth on Sunday. Not only was it Em's last game ever, Bucks won't be gracing the court for us for the rest of the year either as she make her way to Ireland for a wedding.

To Em thank you for agreeing to play for this bunch of misfits this year, you always have a smile on your face and no sweat to be seen no matter how hard you have worked. Hope you have enjoyed your time with the Rusties, we have surely enjoyed having you around.

Next week sees our regular umpire return from overseas and hopefully get manger Mel back that we all love, not umpire Mel that makes Staffo roll his eyes, Liah question decisions or Jazlyn storm off and use a public water fountain.
