A little slice of our school holidays — Edie bug and I on Margie (Starelle Margarita).

I don’t have many photos like this, so I’m very grateful to Brendan Kelly and Corinne Anderson from Kellco for capturing this moment for us while we were videoing cattle for Auctions Plus this week. These are the bits I want to remember — not the fancy things (well, maybe fancy horses), but the ordinary, precious moments that make this life so special.

We’ve been blessed with some of the kindest, when it comes to horses, and Margie is right up there with the favourites. So lucky to be surrounded by good people, good horses and the freedom this life gives me to spend these days with my kids. Wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Behind every single mother running a business and raising her kids… is a Paula.

This is Paula – our nanny, honorary “wifey,” and the calm in our daily storm. From thrusting a coffee and muesli bar in my hand as I dash out the door, to loving my kids like her own, she’s become a treasured part of our family.

While I’m loading cattle, on a horse in the paddock, sitting in meetings, or at conferences – Paula is at home making sure lunchboxes are packed, clothes are clean, and my four munchkins aren’t killing each other. She’s refereeing sibling squabbles, finding bandaids for owies, and reading bedtime stories with more enthusiasm than I sometimes have left in the tank.

There was a time I believed that needing help meant I wasn’t doing enough and I was failing as a mother. But I’ve come to realise that the real strength lies in allowing others in, and the village we’ve built makes life so much richer.

A weekend well spent at the Kumbia Campdraft 🐴
The BOS lady, her BOS babies and our bay ponies had a lovely weekend at Kumbia. We’re grateful for the beautiful weather (wind and all), the friendly faces, and the opportunity to be part of such a well-run event.

We feel lucky to contribute in our small way, and it was great to see some fantastic runs with our cattle out there. Congratulations to all the competitors and winners — and thank you to everyone who helped make it happen.

Looking forward to next year already.

Happy birthday to our amazing steeds 🐎 who carry us on the good days and bad, pin their ears and get after that beast, crash through the scrub, wade through the mud, kindly train the little ringers of the future (and even ‘help’ us take the groceries in)
