Brendan Krummel

1996-2000
64 games
47 goals

185cm
88kg

HFC Most Serviceable Player: 1997

Taken with pick no 5 in the 1995 National Draft after spells at West Coast and Fremantle. Krummel was the first in a number of East Fremantle players recruited by Ken Judge (Judge had coached East Fremantle and Krummel to WAFL Premiership in 1992)

He was a utility who played both fwd and back or even in the midfield.

Krummel struggled with injury for a lot of his time at HFC and is probably best remembered for the bone crunching front on bump by Byron Pickett.

Krummel retired during the 2000 season due to ongoing injuries.

HFC Reserves Leading Goalkicking: 1971

Recruited as a skinny full foward from Berwick, he was originally seen as an understudy to Peter Hudson.

In 1971, as a 18 year old he won the Hawthorn Reserves goalkicking award with 62 goals. After a blistering start to the 1972 reserves season (24 goals from 4 games) he was called up to the seniors. On debut in Rd 8 versus Richmond he would snag 3 goals.

After being in and out of the senior side in 1972 he would eventually play in the Reserves premiership side on a HB flank.

Following an up and down 1973 and being tried as a fwd, wingman and defender he eventually found his niche as a ruck rover in the famed Hawthorn on ball trio of Scott, Matthews and Tuck.

A durable and consistent player who was in the HFC Best up till the end of his career. Tuck showed up his critics by finishing runners up in Peter Crimmins Medal as a 38 year old in 1990.

After a two decade career he finished his career as a running half back showing up opponents nearly half his age and played his last game in the 1991 flag triumph.

THE SECRET IS OUT! 🦅💚💛

Boddington Football Club is thrilled to welcome former AFL premiership player Chance Bateman to the Eagles for a special one-off appearance when we take on Katanning on Saturday 4 July at Boddington Oval.

Chance enjoyed an outstanding AFL career with the Hawthorn Football Club, playing 177 AFL games and being part of the Hawks’ 2008 AFL Premiership team. He also represented Australia in the 2006 International Rules Series against Ireland and currently serves as the Indigenous Player Development Manager at the West Coast Eagles.

Best of all, you’ll get the chance to see him in action as he pulls on the Eagles jumper in our League match, kicking off at 2:15pm.

🎤 Stick around after the game for a special Q&A session with Chance, where he’ll share stories from his AFL career and answer your questions.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our club, community, and young footballers to meet and learn from one of the game’s great ambassadors.

Happy Birthday
Chance Bateman

2000-2012
172 games
67 goals

VFL/AFL Premiership: 2008
VFL Premiership: 2001 (Box Hill Hawks)
HFC Captain: Rd 9 2007 vs West Coast
HFC Best Clubman: 2008

International Rules: 2 games

First Indigenous HFC Player to play: 50,100 and 150 games

Longest serving HFC recruit from WA

Drafted by Hawthorn at pick 48 in the 1999 AFL Draft, the Hawks considered themselves lucky as they thought he would have been picked up earlier. His light frame made him a longer term prospect as he would require time to develop physically. His early career was interrupted by a variety of injuries and homesickness exacerbated by the tragic death of his sister in 2001.

Bateman bounced back from this heartbreak and cemented his spot in 2006 with a career high 21 games and 416 disposals.

The sight of the dreadlocked Bateman running off HB and along the Wing was a sight that all HFC fans enjoyed.

Along with his pace and line breaking , Chance also played with a hardness at the ball that personified the Clarkson era.

By 2008, Bateman was one of the underrated leaders of the HFC outfit that won the 2008 flag and he set the ball rolling with the first HFC goal of game.

During the disappointing 2009 HFC season, Bateman was one of the shining lights with a career high 500 disposals. His stellar year was capped off by finishing 4th in the Peter Crimmins Medal

Bateman was used at times as tagger in 2010 and played role to perfection with hard running style and unsociable football.

2011 was an year plagued by injury, most serious being an ankle injury and he would retire after only managing 3 games in 2012

POST HFC

Played a couple of seasons for his old team Perth in the WAFL and was an Assistant Coach from 2015-2018 at the Demons.

Since 2018, has been a Development Coach - Forwards & Indigenous Players Services at
West Coast Eagles

Works for the Wirrpanda Foundation as an Employment Mentor
