There is little doubt that Grafton based trainer Andy Parramore loves a trip over the border to Queensland.

But last Wednesday it was well rewarded when Weownachevy came from well back in the field to win the QTIS Maiden 1350m at Ipswich.

Considered a certainty beaten at its previous start at Doomben in a 1200m maiden Weownachevy was expected to start favourite before the money came for the Munce trained Win Star.

Ridden by Andrew Mallyon Weownachevy settled well back in the field before Mallyon moved away from the inside to ensure he had clear air all the way down the short Ipswich straight.

Once in the clear on the outside Weownachevy sprinted very quickly to race away and defeat the heavily backed Win Star and did so with plenty in reserve.

Being a QTIS registered horse Weownachevy ended up with a very healthy pay check pocketing over $32000 for its connections for its maiden victory.

Grafton racing on Monday again the local trainers finding theIr way to the winners circle but not many realise how close the meeting was to being abandoned.

Around 8 am the Grafton racecourse became covered in smoke from the surrounding bushfires placing the meeting in doubt but the stewards were able to be convinced it would lift before post time and pushed on with the meeting.

Shane Everson was the first to the winners circle when one of the stable favourites Dizzy Dee lead throughout to win the BM 58 1000m.

Ridden by Archie McColm Dizzy Dee has been a very solid performer for the Everson yard winning six of her twenty three starts,

There is no doubt she is very much at home at the Grafton track where is has now won five races.

The final race of the day saw Samantha McGuren back in the winners circle when Satin And Cash won its third race for the stable since joining the yard in mid May.

Stepping up to BM 66 in the 1400m event Satin And Cash under the guidance of Jake Bayliss settled worse than midfield the fence and was still awkwardly placed arriving at the 300m.

In the end Bayliss found clear air nearing the 200m and Satin And Cash finished strongly to find the lead in the shadows of the post and get the judges nod on the line.

Coffs Harbour has not always been a happy hunting ground for Grafton based trainers but with a near perfect racing surface yesterday Grafton trainers brushed home with three consecutive winners on the eight race card.

First to celebrate was David Campbell when The Lupercal came storming up the inside to win going away in Class 3 1010m. Ridden by Andrew Gibbons The Lupercal settled well back in the field before Gibbons allowed him to slide forward mid race to be on the heels of the leaders as heads were turned for home.

Gibbons then took full advantage of the cutaway rail and The Lupercal did the rest racing away to win with some authority.

It was the second win for The Lupercal since joining the David Campbell yard just over 12 months ago.

It was team Shelton next to the fore when Mum Knows scored a solid victory in the BM 681612m.

Sent out as the despised outsider of the field Mum Knows was given a peach of a ride by Maddie Owen settling just off the pace with the drop on the leaders throughout the race.

Owen also took advantage of the cutaway but Mum Knows did not sprint quickly and took most of the length of the Coffs straight to finally gain the upper hand and get the judges nod in a pretty busy finish.

It was also the second win for Shelton with this mare since she joined his yard late last year.

Shelton made it two wins on the bounce when Highland Force which was resuming from a spell scored a super impressive victory in the BM 58 808m.

Ridden by the inform apprentice Archie McColm Highland Force showed brilliant gate speed to lead throughout and essentially run her opposition off their legs to win with plenty in reserve.

In a strange coincidence it was also the second win for this mare since she joined the Shelton camp earlier this year.

Judging on the quality of her win Highland Force has plenty of upside with more wins in store.

With Sam McGuren heading down the highway to Taree today in search of another winner it is time we review the most recent winner for the stable.

It was at Grafton's first meeting back for the new season when one of the stable favourites Jewels Statement scored an impressive victory in the BM66 1200m.

Jewels Statement had been very unlucky at her previous two starts at the Grafton Carnival and on Coffs Harbour Cup day.

This time under the guidance of Ben Looker Jewels Statement was clearly the best to begin but Looker from a bad gate was happy to take his medicine and go back worse than midfield to find cover.

When in the straight Looker had some difficulty finding clear air but once in the open Jewels Statement sprinted quickly to win with plenty of authority.

To add even more to the win the race was named in honour of Samantha McGuren being the leading Grafton based trainer for the previous racing season.

Last Saturday welcomed the running of the annual retired Jockeys and Trainers race day at Grafton. A good crowd of former jockeys and trainers had a very enjoyable day.

The retired jockeys were then joined by their current counterparts for a minutes silence to remember those riders who have unfortunately lost their lives whilst competing in this great sport.

Coutts Crossing Cup day on Saturday proved to be a successful day for a number Grafton based trainers.

The day started well for the Jason Reilly camp when Star Of Winston came screaming down the outside to grab the lead right on the post and win the Maiden 1206m.

The gelding was having his third start for Reilly after Jason had purchased him on an online Inglis sale. It could have been a risky buy for Reilly as Star of Winston came with a bar for running off the track at Newcastle in early June, however a successful trial win at Grafton saw him quickly back at the races.

Ridden by Grafton apprentice Grace Palmer Star of Winston came from well back in the field on the point of the home turn to come with a well timed run to win with some authority.

John Shelton was the next Grafton trainer celebrating when the heavily backed Monaco Flyer lead throughout to win the Class1 1106m.

Ridden by boom apprentice Archie McColm Monaco Flyer booted through from its inside gate and essentially had control of the race throughout.

Once heads were turned for home Monaco Flyer quickly dashed away and it was race over leaving the challengers in his wake.
