Trophy Tuesday
Many people don't realise that as much as 90% of SSAA NSW members are hunters. Many target shoot and collect, too, but they hunt and participate in pest control on a daily basis. So this week we're gonna start acknowledging the work that those members do in amongst our usual target activities. We'll have a Menu Monday, where members can post their recipes for wild game, Trophy Tuesday to see the great trophies taken by members - particularly those in the Goulburn region - and Feral Friday, a chance to post foxes and other pest species taken. We ask that you keep your photos clean and the fallow buck below taken near Tarago is a good guide. So, let's see those trophies!

Precision Rimfire September 2026
For this months match we shot Precision Rimfire. There are three different classes but as all of us used low rent scoped sporting 22LRs it was interesting. The weather improved. From raining and blowing a gale to just blowing a gale. Our 100m targets were blown away at one point and had be retrieved and put back on the rail. Nonetheless, we stuck it out and enjoyed the morning. Congrats to to our winner Andy on 287 and Junior winner Felix on 158!

Whilst we all know that the recreational hunters, target shooters, collectors and professional pest controllers are not the issue and not responsible for what caused this opportunistic attack on the shooting community…. This needs to be communicated outside of our community.

DON’T PANIC — DO NOT RUN TO HAND IN YOUR PROPERTY.

From the information at hand to date, from what we understand, from November there will be a 12-month period for fi****ms owners to sort out their fi****ms and understand what the new rules mean.

Decisions can also be made after the upcoming elections, so there is no need to rush into anything.

Every single gun that gets handed in – even the most rusty, broken single-shot air rifle – will be used by the police and government as an example of “getting dangerous guns off the streets”. The Albanese and Minns Governments are looking for the 'OPTICS' of large numbers of fi****ms having been handed, that will then be pushed to the media to claim that shooters support this 'steal back'.

It is suggested therefore that you don't even surrender those low value / inoperable fi****ms till later in the process.

REMEMBER:

Stay informed, don’t rush any decisions, and wait for the official details regarding the buyback and compliance arrangements.

You have time to get organised — so stay calm, stay informed, and don’t panic.

The NSW Fi****ms Unfair Confiscation

The NSW and federal governments are perpetrating a con job on the people of NSW and Australia.

Every NSW and Commonwealth taxpayer will contribute hundreds of millions of dollars to fund a “buyback” of fi****ms from safe, legal, licenced farmers, hunters and sporting shooters. The con is that all that money will do nothing to improve Public Safety as they tell us it will. Additionally, those same shooters stand to be defrauded of potentially hundreds of millions of dollars, due to fixed 'steal back' values that are in many cases substantially below market value.

Had the new laws been in place before the Bondi terrorist action, the terrorists would still have had the fi****ms they used. What would have stopped them was the authorities using the knowledge they had to deny a fi****ms licence to the father.

(We are still waiting for an explanation about the highly unusual and questionable path the NSW Fi****ms Registry took in issuing the licence.)

The fault was with the terrorists and the authorities, not safe, legal, licenced farmers, hunters and sporting shooters.

Yet all this money will pay far less than fair value for many thousands of fi****ms safely and lawfully acquired and held. And what about the sentimental value of the shotgun your father left you that was made over a hundred years ago? The rifle your grandfather gave your father to help during the rabbit plague? The rifle you won several club championships with? The rifle of great historical significance in its own right?

With the confiscation (let’s not misleadingly call it a buyback), there will be ammunition, reloading components, accessories such a telescopic sights etc. that will no longer have use or purpose. What of those things? There is no plan to compensate for those.

If the money they envisage handing over as below-value “compensation” was directed at the criminal element who use unregistered, illegal fi****ms as tools of their trade, there would be a massively greater chance of a significant improvement in Public Safety.

Please contact any and every State MP you can think of to let them know that this con job is unjust and unfair, and should not be allowed to proceed. The rushed, no consultation laws of last Christmas Eve should be repealed.

The NSW Government will launch a comprehensive fi****ms buyback scheme on Monday 2 November 2026.

Cadet & Trainer August - 200 & 50

While we initially planned to shoot 4 distances there were time constraints and so we reverted to a 10 round match at 200m and a 20 round 6 minute match at 50m. Congrats to Craig who took both classes in the adults and to Tia and Felix who took the Trainer and Cadet classes respectively in the Junior class.

Cadet & Trainer July 2026 - 300yd Competition

This months shoot was a 40 round match. 10 rounds sighting and an additional 30 scored. Congrats to Tony who took first with 94 points and Cain who took the Junior comp with 62 points. Gotta love long distance shooting with a cartridge that takes several seconds to reach the target. 😁

Watch out for August 1st match.

Reminder: No 'Midweek Matinee' this Wednesday 15th July 2026.

Due to the pistol club having a prior booking on this Wednesday 15th July (and again on Wed 26th August) there's no Midweek Matinee being held this coming week.

Note: Apart from these two dates, these shoots will be running all the way through till the final on Wednesday 30th Sept 2026, following which the 'Twilight Targets' continues on during daylight savings, starting 5pm Thursday 8th Oct 2026.

We look forward to seeing you next week (Wed 22nd July).
