🇺🇸🗻🏙️ 2027 NAI 7s & NYC SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENT! 🏙️🗻🇺🇸

🏉🐺 The countdown is on! Rugby Pathways is excited to announce the next group of players selected for our 2027 NAI 7s & New York City Tour!

In late July 2027, these players will head to Salt Lake City, Utah, to compete at the prestigious North American Invitational (NAI) 7s Tournament, representing Rugby Pathways on the international stage! 🌎🔥

But this tour is about more than rugby! From the excitement of Los Angeles to the challenge of international competition in Utah and the unforgettable sights of New York City, this is an opportunity to make new friends, embrace new cultures and create memories that will last a lifetime. 🏉✈️🗽

🏉✝️🌴 RUGBY, REFLECTION & REJUVENATION 🌴✝️🏉

After two incredibly fast, physical and entertaining days of 7s rugby, the boys earned a well-deserved morning of rest and recovery. Some relaxed in the dorms, others took advantage of the pool, while plenty simply enjoyed some downtime around the resort.

But the afternoon brought another unforgettable rugby experience. 🇫🇯🏉

The boys were incredibly fortunate to attend a top-of-the-table provincial clash between Naitasiri and Nadi — and it certainly lived up to the hype!

The atmosphere inside the ground was electric. The passion, noise and energy surrounding the match was something many of the boys had never experienced at a rugby game in Australia.

As VIP guests, we were also given the incredible opportunity to mingle with the players after the match, with the boys and staff even getting a photo with Fijian Drua player and former Olympic 7s star Ratu Meli Derenaagi. 📸🇫🇯

Back at the resort, the boys were treated to a fantastic BBQ buffet farewell as we prepared to say goodbye to the Uprising Resort the following morning.

And what a final day it was…

🌴 SAWANI VILLAGE 🌴

After an early checkout, the squad headed east to Sawani Village for what would become one of the most memorable cultural experiences of the entire tour.

The boys received a traditional welcome from the Village Chief before taking part in a traditional Kava ceremony with the village community.

We were then incredibly fortunate to have Sai Naiteqe, the father of our very own Fijian-born-and-raised superstar Asaeli, guide us through the village and share an insight into life within the community.

The boys experienced it all.

And then came the church service!

The squad attended a traditional Fijian Methodist Church service, with parishioners travelling from three local villages to join the congregation.

Of course, the boys also received their first true taste of Fiji Time — with the scheduled 10am service eventually getting underway after 10:40am! 😂🇫🇯

Following the service, the boys were welcomed into the village community hall where an incredible feast had been prepared for the squad.

There was so much food and drink that, by the end, there was genuine talk of not needing to eat again for several days! 😂🍽️

More importantly, it was the perfect way to finish an incredible cultural experience — one built around community, faith, family, food and friendship.

A huge personal thank you to Nanise & Sailosi Naiteqe for the incredible effort they put into preparing such a special welcome for the boys and for helping provide experiences that simply could not have felt more authentic.

These are the moments that make international rugby tours so special. ❤️

After leaving Sawani Village, the boys climbed back into the vans for the four-hour journey to Nadi, where we spent our final night enjoying pizzas 🍕, the NRL Grand Final 🏉 and one last night together before the alarm went off at 4:30am for our flight back to Brisbane.

Eight days.

Three incredible locations.

Two days of 7s.

Countless rugby and cultural experiences.

And memories that will last a lifetime. 🇫🇯❤️🏉

🇫🇯🏉🧒🏾 Culture, Rugby & a Lifetime of Memories 🇫🇯🏉🧒🏾

After an incredible first day of rugby, the boys headed back to the resort for an unforgettable Fijian Island Night — complete with a traditional Lovo buffet, Warrior show and fire dancing. 🔥🌴

The boys threw themselves into every part of the evening, enjoying the food, soaking up the entertainment and, of course, getting the chance to shake their tail feathers alongside the local Fijians! 💃🏾🕺🏾

And there was even a special award to celebrate, with our very own Mason taking out the Best Male Dancer award! 🏆😂

After what felt like a very short sleep, it was an early start as we made our way back towards Suva — and to Sawani Village, where we had the incredible honour of being one of the first rugby teams ever to visit the local school.

The welcome we received was truly special. ❤️🇫🇯

We were given a wonderful tour of the school, met members of the local community and finished with a beautiful morning tea. It was another opportunity for the boys to experience a side of Fiji that goes far beyond rugby.

From Sawani, it was a quick stop for lunch and some game-day supplies, where we were incredibly lucky to cross paths with the Fijian Deputy Prime Minister. He was incredibly generous with his time, stopping to chat with the boys about our tour, where we had travelled from and what we had been experiencing in Fiji. 🇫🇯🤝🇦🇺

Then it was time to get back to business as we took on Marist Brothers for Day 2 of our 7s campaign. 🏉🔥

The boys put together some strong 7s rugby, but after the battles of Day 1, a few sore bodies and minor injuries meant our bench was looking a little thin.

So we put out the SOS… and what happened next was something the boys will remember forever.

We were joined by some local Fijian players, giving our boys the incredible opportunity to share the field and play alongside them. What started as a rugby tour quickly became something much more meaningful — friendships and memories that will last long after the final whistle. 🤝🏉🇫🇯

After the games, both teams came together, and our boys had the opportunity to present the Marist players with gifts and donations they had brought from home.

The excitement and genuine delight on the faces of the local boys was something incredibly special to see. ❤️

There were also some great rugby exchanges, with our boys proudly heading home wearing Marist jerseys and shorts — a pretty awesome souvenir from a very special day!

After a well-earned feed of Macca’s 🍔🍟, the boys finally settled in for a chilled evening back at the resort.

With plenty of rugby, culture, new friendships and unforgettable experiences packed into just a couple of days, a well-earned rest morning was definitely needed!

Today, we were thrilled to have a visit from the U17 Rugby Pathways Wolves from Australia right here at the Fiji Museum! 🏉

Next up, they will be taking on the Marist U17 team at Marist Brothers High School. We wish both teams the absolute best of luck!

A perfect day for 7s in Fiji overcast and 24 degrees and the Rugby Pathways Wolves have taken the field in Fiji.

After coming together as a team 4 days ago the boys have showed composure, commitment to each other and some of their own Fijian flair.

🇫🇯🏝️ Fiji Tour Day 3 🇫🇯🏝️

Our Fiji tour could not have asked, or received a better start on the ground in Fiji than an invitation to tour the training and High Performance facility in Nadi, before we made our way along the Coral Coast to our accommodation in Pacific Harbour.

The boys were incredibly lucky to get to hear about the history of the Drua, the culture that they are instilling and the amazing work the Drua Foundation is doing to support grassroots rugby all across Fiji, her islands and the Pacific. It was truly inspiring to see the work they are doing and the boys got to see up close and personal what that work can lead to when they got a personalised tour of the facility by the Drua Luke Vasu, Drua Head of Athletic Performance.

The squad was also lucky to hear from Josefa Vanuaca, Head of Sales and Melissa Natawake, Head of the Fijian Drua Foundation to get amazing insight into the work that goes on behind the scenes to run a professional rugby franchise and how they are all so personally invested into building something the whole of the Pacific community can be proud of and aspire to be a part of. It was also great to quickly catch up with Drua CEO Jeff Miller and discuss all things rugby and catch up after many years.

A massive thank you to Randall Kamea for his help in securing our Drua visit and being instrumental in getting our games sourced and set up for later in the week 🙏🏻🙏🏻

After our time at the Drua finished up we hit the road for one of the most amazingly visual drives on the earth as we proceeded along the Coral Coast to our accommodation at the Uprising Resort, Pacific Harbour. The boys then enjoyed some down time in the resort and some much needed water recovery that quickly turned into pool rugby, and then moved into beach rugby, to which both coaches were excited to see the boys getting in some much needed contact work, and more importantly just having a great time.

Tuesday night also saw our jersey presentation which was live streamed back home and it was also amazing to see so many families in country attend and we are looking forward to having them on the sidelines of our games on Thursday & Friday.

🇫🇯🇫🇯 Bula, and we are off to Fiji 🏉🏉

Its been a hectic start to our 2026 Fiji 7s Tour with our Under 17 boys team assembling on the Gold Coast on Sunday morning to be put through a high intensity training camp designed to build connections, test skill levels and build awareness of each others game style and skill before we take on some of the best Fiji has to offer later in the week.

We have boys joining us from all over the Eastern Seaboard, Ratu from Charters Towers in North Queensland to Mason from Victoria and a very healthy mix of boys from New South Wales and Central Queensland joining those boys.

The boys are coming together incredibly well and are all excited about what lies ahead in our journey to Fiji.

We are about to jump on our flight and tomorrow we start the day with a tour of the Fijian Drua HQ before heading to our home base in Pacific Harbour.
